About the Achenblog

The Achenblog will focus on science, history, sports, journalism, cool stuff that's in the news, and my own inexorable psychological disintegration.

Also there will be some politics, but in measured doses, as that blogging niche is overpopulated, not to mention overheated. This is not going to be a blog for screamers and ranters and ravers. Well, some ravers, maybe. But I marvel at people who have extremely strong convictions and dogmatic beliefs about issues that, to me, are fraught with uncertainty and ambiguity and incomplete data. Would that just once I knew the truth about anything.

The Achenblog is going to evolve over time. Although monstrously self-indulgent at the moment, I am thinking that in a few months the blog will be only hideously so. You can find links here to my stories for the Post, and for my new column Rough Draft, as well as Live Online discussions and various other parts of my personal media empire.

I have a long history of starting columns and then killing them, usually without even so much as a last hurrah, just a kind of feeble sniveling wheeze. But I vow that the Achenblog will be around for weeks and possibly even months, years, millennia, and entire geological epochs. Beyond that it will probably get stale.
