Lichtman's Big Splash

U.S. Senate candidate Allan Lichtman has plunged into the Democratic primary contest, literally jumping into the C&O Canal in a business suit for the campaign's first television commercial that begins airing today on television stations that air in the Washington suburbs and Baltimore.

Lichtman, an American University professor who is one of seven Democratic candidates in the race to replace U.S. Sen. Paul Sarbanes, said the playful commercial is intended to send a serious message.

"You can send a conventional politician to the Senate and it'll be like throwing a pebble on a pond: a little bit of ripple and nothing will change," he says in the ad, tossing a pebble into the water at Wheaton Regional Park.

Then, just before the jump: "Or let's make a big splash and together change Washington!"

The nearly 100 "Splash for Change" spots will be broadcast on CNN, Headline News, Comedy Central and BET for one week.

Okay, that's funny as hell.

It's nice to see someone running for office who doesn't let a fancy suit go to his head. Pretty good platform too. Good luck to him.

Very funny ad. I like the line about "too much government intruding in our private lives and too little government meeting our needs." It's good to hear a real message from a candidate instead of the empty slogans that you get from conventional politicians like Ben Cardin and Kweisi Mfume.

well done Allan Lichtman! Great way to bring attention to your campaign.

I'd rather have a candidate who is substantive than one who is entertaining. And I can't agree that he has a good "platform". Every candidate pays lip service to the idea of change; ever hear any of them say "I plan to keep things just as they are now."?

Pepe ie MoCo,

If you visit Lichtman's website, you will see more substance than any other candidate. Hell, Mfume's links to half his issues dont even work.

The problem with politics is its too anal. People need to laugh sometimes too!

I've looked at Lichtman's website. I don't think trashing your opponents is the same as having "substance". If, by some miracle he got elected, Lichtman would be a pariah in the Senate. Of course, he'd still be better than Steele.
