In James We Trust

Rosalind Helderman

In the last few election cycles, Republicans haven't made much headway in Maryland's 4th Congressional District, which includes part of Mongtomery and most of Prince George's.

But Peter James, 52, isn't just running as a Republican for the seat, now held by Rep. Albert R. Wynn (D) -- James is running as a Ron Paul Republican.

James said he is one of five Congressional candidates running Maryland at least in part to draw attention to the Texas representative whose presidential campaign has been something of a grassroots phenemonon. Paul advocates libertarian positions, including abolishing the federal income tax and the closure of many federal agencies. He opposes the war in Iraq.

James, a businessman from Germantown, said Paul will need allies in Congress if elected president. But even if he does not, the "Ron Paul message is stronger than the man himself."

He acknowledged running with an R after his name will be tough, but he said at least a third of those who attend local weekly Ron Paul meet-ups identify themselves as liberal Democrats concerned with the growth of the federal government.

"We're seeing disenchanted Democrats, who say whether I elect Giuliani or Hillary, I'm getting the same thing," James said. "I believe there's a very strong contingent of voters out there who have been woken up by this message. The numbers, they way I look at them, are very doable."

Among the campaign tactics James promised to bring attention to his cause: street theater. He's also pushing a local currency of his own creation called Just Money that he believes solves deep seated problems with the U.S. monetary system. So far, it's accepted by 11 Germantown-area businesses.

The lack of participation in this thread is indicative of the interest anyone has with a candidate with an (R) after their name has in the 4th District.

You can dress up a Bushie anyway you want, but it's still a Reagan-worshipping Bushie. Sorry MD GOP, you all got yourselves into this mess - with all due respect, things don't change overnight.

Mr. James should go to a few Ron Paul meet up group meetings and get them to start composing/distributing his information along with Dr. Paul's. He should also get a good website up quickly (with a donation counter) and make sure he understands the message well. I'm sure he will get a lot of help from people both inside and outside his district if he keeps saying he wants to be a Ron Paul Republican and approaches the activists directly, so he needs to be ready for it.

First, I never voted for a Bush President. I did vote for the small government Reagan but did not support the big government Reagan of later years. Please take a look at my site & views prior to bashing.

I attend the Montgomery County Ron Paul meetup regularly and have garnered supporters there. However, I am looking to engage the entire 4th District.

FAIR ENOUGH. Why are you running on party coattails of Bush and Reagan? Why not Democrat or Independent or Green. The GOP is hemoragging based on their own performance. Unless you owe the GOP some sort of idealogical loyalty, why run as GOP? I can only give you points for being Quixotesque.

Ron Paul is not what America needs, he IS less of what America does not need. I give him maximum points for being Quixotesque - however - courage without common sense or concern/approach for raising up every American regardless of class means nothing.

Donny,

Please take the time to view the 'Money as Debt" video. You can Google this or find it at my web site. www.peterjames08.com

The private money issuance monopoly is the enemy of the people. It creates massive debt and poverty. Read about Ben Franklin and his role issuing Pensylviana script money. There was prosperity and no poor houses in PA until England outlawed the script and forced PA to use private Bank of England money. Within 6 months poverty hit PA and the first poor houses opened.
This is because that the Bank of England as is the Fed bank is based on issuing money as debt but never the money to pay the interest. This garuantees ever exdpanding debt and a steady stream of forclosures.

Al Wynn's vote for Bankruptcy reform placed all credit card holders in the 4th District into economic slavery. Bonded severants to a debt that mathematically can never be repaid.

Ron Paul is the only Presidential candidate who understands the workings of the monetary system. If you are truely concerned you will tale they time to study the monetary system.

I hope you will take the time to do this. I believe you will never again look at the world quite the same if you do.
