Too Sexy for My State House

Phyllis Jordan

Some prominent Maryland politicians appear in a pair of rather bizarre YouTube videos, links to which have been widely shared in Annapolis.

One opens with footage from a Republican congressional forum that included state Sen. Andrew P. Harris (Baltimore County) and Rep. Wayne T. Gilchrest (Md.). Harris, who would later defeat Gilchrest in the primary, is shown discussing the 2006 loss by Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. (R) to Gov. Martin O'Malley (D).

"Bob Ehrlich ran against a well-funded, attractive candidate," Harris says.

"Did he just call Martin O'Malley attractive?" flashes on a written screen.

The video then segues into images of O'Malley as the song "I'm Too Sexy" by the British band Right Said Fred plays. The images include several of O'Malley playing in his Celtic rock band, in which he appears in sleeveless T-shirts.

The video ends back at the forum with Harris proclaiming: "If I had a nickel for everyone who told me I'm crazy, I could retire."

The final screen reads: "Please send a nickel to Senator Andy Harris."

Comptroller Peter Franchot (D) stars in another video available for viewing on YouTube titled "Peter Franchot as Dr. No."

Images of Franchot, who proved to be independent-minded during his first year in office, appear as the Ramones song "I'm Against It" plays. Other images include slot machines, which Franchot vigorously opposes.

I enjoy so much when Martin takes time away from providing leadership to instead go and prance around onstage strumming his cute little guitar while wearing that HOT, tight, sleek, black muscle-shirt. It is so awesome that we have such a rockin' progressive governor who wants the same type of success for the state of Maryland that he had while he was mayor of Baltimore.

The Governor may have been "sleek," at one time; however, in the photos taken of him at the Bay Polar Plunge, he looked like the Michelin Man. Too much time lunching off that 6% computer tax money?

Most.Boring.Sex.Scandal.Ever. Really, if you stretched anymore you could be your own best friend.

Is reviews of YouTube videos the best the staff of the Washington Post can come up with as discussion topics?

That noise is Katherine Graham spinning.
