Top Gilchrest Aide Joins Kratovil's Campaign

John Wagner

The top campaign aide to Rep. Wayne T. Gilchrest, who was defeated in February's Republican primary for Maryland's 1st Congressional District, has joined the campaign of the Democratic nominee for the seat, Frank Kratovil.

Kratovil's camaign announced today that Lynn Caligiuri is coming on board as a finance director. She had served as campaign and finance director for Gilchrest since 1999.

"Obviously many of us were disappointed in the Republican primary results, but we now have an opportunity to send someone to Washington to continue to represent our values and end the partisan attacks and divisiveness that has rendered Congress ineffective and unresponsive," Caligiuri said in a statement. "Frank Kratovil is the right choice."

Gilchrest was defeated in the GOP primary by state Sen. Andrew P. Harris (R-Baltimore County), who sought to portray the incumbent as too liberal for his district, which includes Maryland's Eastern Shore.

This just goes to show that those of us who thought Gilchrest was a liberal were right. I for one am glad he is getting the boot!
