Don Praisner Officially Joins MoCo Council

Ann Marimow

Montgomery County elected officials formally welcomed Don Praisner to their ranks this morning in a quiet swearing-in ceremony at the Circuit Courthouse in Rockville.

Praisner was elected to the County Council this month to fill the open seat left by the death of his wife, Marilyn Praisner, in February.

County Executive Isiah Leggett and Council President Michael Knapp were among the well-wishers that included Praisner's children and grandchildren.

Knapp told him, "We may have lost a family member, but we've not lost a family."

Praisner joins the council just days after the conclusion of a contentious budget debate. He acknowledged "difficult months ahead," and with his voice cracking with emotion, said, "I'll do my best to keep us moving forward."

Good luck Don and please consider running again in 2010 if Nancy Navarro is the only one to step forward to run. We need an energetic person to represent our interests, not someone like Navarro who has used every excuse in the book and then some for missing meetings and blowing off her school board constituents. I, for one, find her sense of entitlement disgusting. We deserve better than Nancy Navarro in 2010.

I'd like to echo East County Resident's sentiments exactly, especially the best wishes to Don Praisner. We are still in good hands in the East County. Nobody is expecting miracles, just good judgement and mature, sensible leadership.

As we look ahead to 2010, much is at stake for the East County. Hopefully the economy and housing market will be on the mend by then. Regardless, we in Council District 4 need continued responsible and sensible representation. Ms. Navarro will likely run, and hopefully the voters will see through her smile to her record of being nothing more than the hood ornament on Jerry Weast's BOE Bentley. From first hand experience as an MCPS parent I can say that she is unresponsive and aloof to parents/PTA concerns unless they advance her cause/agenda.

For now, let's just be comfortable knowing that there is a good and experienced pilot on the Council flying our District 4 plane, and hope that a qualified copilot/first officer is training up for the next flight.
