Hanko Re-Elected in New Carrollton
When New Carrollton Mayor Andy Hanko ran for re-election two years ago, the contest was so close that Hanko packed up some of the items in his office, took his telephone off the hook, and went home before the final results were in.
The election on Monday was less of a cliffhanger. The 77-year-old veteran community leader was still at City Hall Monday night when he learned that he defeated civic activist Jacques Chevalier, 450 to 120.
While Chevalier spent many evenings in the parking lot of the Shoppers Food Warehouse seeking potential votes, Hanko won his 12th term in office by focusing on distributing pamplets door to door.
Chevalier is a veteran political activist who in recent years has spoken out on educational issues. In the mayor's race, he accused Hanko and members of the police department of being racist -- a charge that many residents of the diverse town of 13,000 said was untrue.

Once again WHITE SUPREMACY reigns, BLACK voter apathy and shut off of the BLACK populatio. The 5 white council members ( the 1 one black lady married to a white man is a sell out to blacks)the 80 year old white mayor will not speak to or acknowledge blacks in this city and so it is no surprise he got 10% of UNCLE TOM NEGROES to vote for him and 99.5% of the white vote. We will come back and run 3 blacks to take out the council UNLESS these racists change the charter to districts in New Carrollton. The racist in Greenbelt see the light and so will NEW CarrolltoOON White supremicist sooon. Raw numbers 5300 registered voters, 13,000 residents, 450 voters for Hanko equals less than 3 percent of the residents and 8 percent of registered voters voted for him...the WPOST writer could have told you that in his story and he lives in New Carrollton and did not vote either. We have scared and lost black folk and we will educate them no to fear racists and uncle tom/tommettes!!!

And you wonder why Jacques can't win an election anywhere.
This man needs more than a restraining order, he needs professional attention.

Where am I lying ? White AMERIKKKA NEW CArrolltoooon types are hiding again and will always try and use diversion to hide the truth. That is why I will spread the truth and being in office is not the sole source for prosperity or legitimacy so know that. ALLAH IS THE WITNESS aand one day the nasty chickens will come home to roost and long live BLACK awarers like me you cannot restrain that chicken.

OH, I see. You're helping black people with your extreme homophobic, xenophobic and leukophobic behavior?
You're a caricature of silliness that gains nothing for your neighbors or the rest of the lunatic constituency you claim to represent.
I won't continue because you do a far better job damning your self than I could ever do. I do know the relief Robin Ficker must feel to have a blog brother now.

I am glad to have the candidate's remarks. It had been difficult to explain the decision to leave.

Jacques Chevalier is no less outrageous now than he was when he was insulting the people who disagreed with him on policies for the French Immersion program in the Prince George's County Schools. People can disagree on policies, but to characterize all opponents as racist is out of the box. We have a city that functions well, that has a diverse population, and that does not need a complete makeover. It can and should be improved. Hopefully, all the residents of New Carrollton will move forward from this election together.
Chevalier's pre-election antics in the local shopping mall parking lot were appalling. He may not believe it, but people who oppose him actually want Barack Obama to win the nomination and the general election. We don't decide to vote on the basis of race - we decide on character. His character may be fine for an "activist", but it would fail trying to lead my city government.

Sounds like Jacques' anti-tolerance message never caught-on with the voters. (again)
