McDonough To Be Secretary Of State

Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) tomorrow will name John McDonough, a Prince George's lawyer well-connected in Democratic politics, as Maryland's next secretary of state, according to several people familiar with the pick.
WIth the scheduled announcement, O'Malley will fill a Cabinet position that has remained open since he took office in January 2007. The governor and his aides have faced several challenges in filling the post, including a relatively low salary set by statute.
McDonough has a long track long in Prince George's politics and currently serves as counsel to the county's Democratic Central Committee. He is close to both U.S. Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and Maryland Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. (D-Calvert).
McDonough's daughter, Caitlin, works in Miller's Senate office, and his wife, Mary Lou, is interim director of the Department of Corrections in Prince George's.
O'Malley has scheduled a 12:30 press conference called "to announce an appointment to the Cabinet."

All of the talk in Annapolis is that this guy is being brought in to run a campaign for reelection to fix O'Malley's horrible poll numbers.
I'm glad my tax dollars are being spent on that.
