Run, Tiki, Run ...
You know what, I think he called up the Redskins and asked them to make him look good. But seriously, he's just doing what everyone else has been doing against the Redskins' defense this year. Remember, he ran over them last time as well. He's a strong runner, and he's smart. He's patient and he waits for the hole to open and his acceleration is remarkable. He goes from 0-to-50 as fast as any running back in the league. But I think patience, and smarts, are his best assets. If he wanted to reconsider, I think he's got four more years left in him, at least. It doesn't look like he's taken a lot of bad hits in his career.

Question for Ken: Have the Redskins run out of gas, or is Tiki simply embarrassing them tonight?

Slide Charlie Brown, slide ...
That was a great hit, but it wasn't helmet-to-helmet hit. I think that's just a young quarterback not knowing how to slide. Especially on grass, I'm guessing it's hard to keep thinking about sliding feet first because you're constantly thinking your ankle will get caught up in the grass and you might turn or sprain an ankle. In college you might take some big shots, but maybe every third game you'll face a big hitter, or a team with big hitters. In the pros you just have too many bullets coming at you every game.

Defensively speaking ...
We are just witnessing the same problems with the Redskins' defense tonight that we have been seeing all season. In the cover 2 they are playing the safety is having to play too deep and the linebacker, who have been weak spot on this team all year, just aren't taking the right angles and aren't making enough plays. Rocky McIntosh looks like he isn't quite sure what to do and where to be out there. I think they are having a lot of technique problems out there. I think you'll probably see a lot of frustration boil over in the second half. Guys will start losing their tempers. Silly mistakes will be committed.

Question for Ken: Is the Redskins defense just mailing it in tonite, or is Tiki Barber and the Giants' offense just that good?

Who stays, who goes ...
Adam Archuleta is gone. He won't be here. Clinton Portis, he is still an iffy proposition. His salary is almost too big to trade. And I think the coaches like the security of having a guy like Mark Brunell on the team, so I think they'll at least see if he will restructure his contract. I know he doesn't have what it takes to be a starter in this league anymore. Defensive tackle Joe Salave'a is probably gone. I think Brandon Lloyd may be gone. He's been too unproductive. Antwaan Randle-El has stepped up a bit, so I think they can do without Lloyd next season. But for a guy like Archuleta, it's a relief to get some closure. He's really the victim in this entire scenario. The Redskins knew what he could do before he got here. I think tonite, a lot of guys will be worried about their future, but I think the Redskins will take a different approach next year and keep players around and develop them within their system.

On hangin' up the cleats for the last time ...
First, you gotta respect a guy to go out on top of his game, like Tiki. It is so hard to leave this game at the top of your game. Most players play way beyond their ability to be a star. Like Brett Favre. Jerry Rice was another guy who found it so, so hard to give up the game. But as a football player, you've been trained and coached and implored to overcome obstacles, to fight through adversity no matter what is in front of you. A lot of great players just play beyond their ability. It's like when you're doing a bench press, and your spotter is driving you to do one more rep, just one more. That's how football players have been taught all their lives, to clear just one more hurdle. And as an athlete you always think you can clear one more hurdle. Then one more. And there are a lot of politics that go into it as well. Sometimes a team will start looking to part ways with a player and will start dropping hints to the press, like a guy has a lost a step, or isn't playing like he used to. The media gets a hold of something like that and they start to cast a player in a negative light.

Deserving ain't got nothing to do with it ...
Based on the way they have been playing, I'd say no. But you know, all you have to do is get to the playoffs and the season resets and starts all over again. I'd compare it to a guy getting in a lucky punch and winning the heavyweight championship. People simply won't think you deserve it. They are a paper champ. But in essence, the Giants are not a good team. They have been practicing plenty of bad habits over the second half of the season, and that has in turn spawned a bad attitude from many players as well. And good teams will beat a team like that down. Question is, are the Redskins a good team? But for the Giants, your own bad habits will come back to beat you in the butt every time.
