Jews & Evangelicals for Giuliani?
Rudy Giuliani sought to cover all of his theological bases on Tuesday.
His first campaign event of the day was a speech at the evangelical Regent University in Virginia Beach, where he appeared along with school founder Pat Robertson. Five hours later Giuliani spoke to the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington in Rockville, Md.
"I'm coming from Regent University to a Jewish house of worship," joked hizzoner. "Now if I hit a Catholic Church tonight..."
In his remarks to both groups, Giuliani focused on the threat of "Islamic Terrorists" and expressed strong support for Israel.
Giuliani told the Regent group that Democrats are "in denial" about the threat posed by terrorists to the United States and at the JCRC he drew a direct line between Nazi Germany and current terrorist groups.
"If Europe had confronted Hitler at an earlier stage... there would have been millions and millions of lives saved," he said.
He added that terrorists "are at war with us. You got to look at Iraq in a context that is them versus us.... We made the mistake [of not doing that] with Hitler. I'm not going to make that mistake again. If I'm president, I'm not going to let any man destroy Israel."
Evangelical and Jewish voters could provide key support for Giuliani in his bid for the presidency, and a strong stand in support of Israel combined with hawkish views on terrorist threats could shore up support from both groups.
Giuliani leads his Republican rivals in the national opinion polls, a surprising fact to some political observers given the party's conservative bent on social issues and Giuliani's support for abortion rights and gay marriage. And although in his mayoral runs Giuliani performed well among Jewish voters, the group has not lent the bulk of its support to Republican presidential candidates in recent years.
In his two races for mayor against David L. Dinkins, a Democrat and former New York City mayor, Giuliani, running as "a law-and-order Republican, won two-thirds of the Jewish vote," according to American Jewish Historian Murray Friedman.
In 1997, when Giuliani ran for re-election against Ruth Messinger, a Jewish Democrat, Friedman said Giuliani received "some 75 percent of the Jewish vote."
In 2004, 25 percent of registered Jewish voters helped elect President Bush, according to the Pew Research Center, up from 19 percent in 2000.

Yes--especially if the summit is in Saudi Arabia.

Well, Rudy's got RR's vote. Rudy should be the last person to accuse somebody of being 'in denial'.

Anyone who votes for a lowlife like Giuliani is a xenophobic b@stard. Rudy Giuliani represents the new breed of racists where black people and communists have been replaced with Muslims. My questions to jews...after having your @ss saved from hitler, how can you repay that favor by supporting a lowlife hatemonger like Rudy Giuliani? And remember before Giuliani came to your temple, he shoke hands with Pat Roberson who said all you jews will be going to hell, and would have forced you into christianity if Americans didn't resist him, and yes that includes many muslims too.
Posted by: Joe | June 27, 2007 05:35 PM
I think what you're all most scared of is that Rudy runs the very real possibility of garnering Republican, independent, and Democrat votes, thereby securing the White House.
WmS - get a sense of humor.
JS - if the shoe fits . . .
Joe - I'm just outright sorry for you.
Posted by: RSW | June 27, 2007 05:44 PM
Yeah...I'm sure America is gunning for a lowlife who was having an affair with his secretary during 9/11, and then kicked his poor wife of 19 years out of his house so that he could be with his lover. Giuliani couldn't even be elected as NYC mayor, let alone President. Heck, even Fred Thomson has more integrity than him.
Posted by: Joe | June 27, 2007 05:56 PM
If Giuliani runs, most evangelicals will stay home. The promise made to them by Rove/Bush, that it was safe to come out and fight political battles in the name of JC's own pick for President, GW, has been clearly and absolutely broken. The country is a mess, it was, in a large part, their doing. Most will crawl back into their churches and not vote. They'll never vote for a guy who supports Abortion.
Posted by: thebob.bob | June 27, 2007 05:58 PM
I meant Giuliani was sleeping around with his secretary when he sent 300 of New York's finest to their burning deaths. I mean what kind of fool sends 300 cops and firemen into a building about to collapse? Not to mention, Giuliani and his buddy kerik made their fortune skiming money intended for walkie talkies for the police force and fire dept. Giuliani should be held resposible for their deaths.
Posted by: Joe | June 27, 2007 06:01 PM
Right on, RSW - Rudy is not only a strong leader against terrorism, but he's a fiscal conservative, won't waste the tax-payer's money, and will improve the quality of life for ALL Americans, as he did in NYC - where they said it could not be done... If you don't remember what NYC looked like pre-Rudy, revisit the movie "Taxi Driver"...
Posted by: Peter | June 27, 2007 06:02 PM
... Actually, maybe some posters here should not see "Taxi Driver", gives the impressionable too many ideas.
Posted by: Peter | June 27, 2007 06:04 PM
Americans won't have worry about their tax dollars, because it will all end up in Giuliani and his buddy kerik's pockets.....just as he did with the tax receipts from new yorkers. Quality of life in NYC actually went down when Rudy was mayor, only to improve after Bloomberg got elected.
Posted by: Joe | June 27, 2007 06:15 PM
Jews...I know israel is imoortant to you, but does that mean you gotta support kukes who would forcefully convert you to Christianity? Who say that you represent evil and will never enter the gates of heaven because you did not accept Jesus? Is dirt more important than your faith?
Posted by: Ahab | June 27, 2007 07:16 PM
Rudy has no chance whatsoever of becoming president. Liberals, who normally hate him, seem to think he's most liberal Republican out there and then write nonsense like this. In a general election and in some fantasy Rudy actually ran, conservatives, including this one would stay home.
Posted by: Erick Blair | June 27, 2007 09:25 PM
You are kidding yourself about a 'Jewish vote' backing any Republican candidate.
All of the significant Democrats are supporters of our allies in Israel, so there is really no contention on that issue.
The 'Jewish vote' is going where America is going, against more of Bush's policies.
And when it comes to domestic issues, the Republicans can just forget it.
Plus for those folks who are New Yorkers, we've seen years of Giuliani in action, that's an additional reason he won't get our votes.
Posted by: Steve G | June 27, 2007 10:26 PM
Rudy is a low life coward. Just imagine him and his buddy Kerik responsible for our security.
Posted by: J.S. | June 28, 2007 06:42 AM
hahha "joe". yeah the country is a real mess. hahaha. a safe homeland and burgeoning economy. thats a real mess. what a clown you are you liberal troll.

RUDY STROLLS IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: chad | June 28, 2007 05:19 PM
Many Jewish voters take a strong stand on Israel. Bringing up Rudy's crossdressing for charity is completely inane, they've all got scandals, at least he doesn't lie about his on national television. He has strong opinions that will likely divide many democrats.
America is changing fast and there is a large chunk of voters that are interested in a man with a proven record of cleaning up one of the dirtiest places in the world, one who extends personal freedoms to marginalized groups, and one who seeks to protect democracy among the opposing democrats whose tepid security policies are ambiguous at best.
Many Jews want someone who will take a strong, defined stand on Israel instead of throwing them a campaign trail bone for a coming election. The new American Jew is becoming more concerned with security issues, and we've historically been faithful social liberals. Giuliani is a way Jews can have their cake and eat it too.

This country needs a uniter. And this country (the left half of it) needs some sense.
Giulani is the perfect candidate.

I use to have compassion for individuals who were "brainwashed" by the likes of "Rudi"... However, now I can only feel sorry for you..
Leadership is Action Through *Example Not Position...
(It is not a position of power nor being in the right place at the right time, neither define leadership).
It is defined by setting the example through taking action on such Leadership Traits as Truthfulness! Honesty! Fidelity!
Ron Paul Has Acted Admirably On All These Leadership Traits:
"Truthfulness" first and foremost... Then: Principle, Integrity, Honesty,* Fidelity (to their oaths), Honor, Virtue, Compassion, Courage, Vision, Wisdom and Faith.

Another example of Israel and right-wing nuttery his destroying America.
When will AMERICA be put first over extraneous self-created threats such as "Islamist" terrorists?
Giuliani (I guess Jewliani would be MORE apt) is a coward who works by playing the FEAR card whenever he gets. Somebody better remind him, he ain't running for the Presidency of ISRAEL, but instead the United States of America!
Posted by: TJ | June 29, 2007 09:54 AM
Interesting that the racist vote seems to be shifting towards the democrats...I'm glad not to be associated with that bloc. Giuliani won't stand for Islamic terror and he supports our only ally in the middle east, the only democracy, Israel. If that earns him the slur "Jewliani," wow, guess I don't know how to respond to that.
Posted by: Dannel | June 29, 2007 10:04 AM
ha you're calling giuliani's supporters "brainwashed" then you go on to say the following of Ron Paul:
"Truthfulness" first and foremost... Then: Principle, Integrity, Honesty,* Fidelity (to their oaths), Honor, Virtue, Compassion, Courage, Vision, Wisdom and Faith."
he's still a politician, and beyond that, he's still a human being. Don't be ridiculous, and more to the point, realize that you lose a lot of credibility telling people they're brainwashed and then spitting out vague platitudes.

It is obvious that democrats are afriad that Guiliani will get the nomination. If he does, democrtas will have a real battle on their hands. I do not think Jews would have a beter friend than Giuliani. No candidate can match Giuliani's accomplishments The far left would would much prefer to run against some one like Tom Tancredo or Mitt Romney.
Posted by: AJT | June 29, 2007 03:36 PM
Guiliani is perfect for moderates who support a liberal social policy, fiscal conservatism, and a tough foreign policy to fight Islamofascism. He is supportive of our only ally in the Middle East, Israel, and I am sure that Rudy will help us achieve victory in the war on terror. Read his 12 Commitments to America, they're amazing and I know that this is the man who should be in the White House!!

Rudy will survive America and prove to be best president in last hundred years
Posted by: George | June 30, 2007 03:36 PM
Rudy is the only one who can strongly deal with those countries or groups that are promoting Islamic terrorism by various means by suppress their own people and other's right to freedom of speech or expression. Bringing democracy alone can't solve the problem, when the fundamental precondition of that democracy is based upon suppression of freedom of speech and expression. In reality, it will be far dangerous than the existing situation, even non-Islamic government's are directly or indirectly imposing similar condition to their own citizen and put the whole world population under siege, as our presidentail democrat candidates are going to do so . Nothing can impose on top of freedom of speech or expression, not even sentiment, because sentiment is very specific things it always changing, today you have one believe or faith and tomorrow you have different. World must understand that absolute freedom of speech or expression is the one and the only key to establish free society and alone can stop Islamic terrorism. By opening up the flood gate of millions of voice within those countries can create such a huge resonance that can alone win over Islamic terrorism and its support base.

This article is OK, but has the typical sloppiness of the mainstream media (WaPo, NYT, AP, etc). Rudy doesn't support gay marriage. Read his position on his campaign website under "On the issues".

wHAT BETTER PERSON TO LEAD OUR GREAT NATION THAT IS DIVIDED. I SEE RUDY BEING A GREAT LEADER WHO WILL APPEAL TO CONSERVATIVES, MODERATES, AND MANY LIBERALS. IT SEEMS TO ME, THAT THE DEMOCRATS ARE RUNNING VERY LEFT MINDED THINKERS. GULLIANI IS SELLING SOMETHING THAT NO ONE ELSE HAD, MODERATNESS. I'M VOTING FOR RUDY TO WORK FOR A COUNTRY THAT IS VERY MODERATE, JUST LIKE HIM

As a registered Republican in a 'RED' state (Kansas), I have voted for many mderate Democrats;dislike the extremes of both parties. Basically would prefer 'Liberterian', if they had a chance;or a third MODERATE individual.
Without that, am for Giuliani.

As a life long resident of New York City's borough of Brooklyn, I felt obligated to respond to the misinformed stupidity posted by Joe. Although your ignorance seems limitless, I'll use just 4 examples to prove that you don't know what you're talking about:
1) Xenophobic - Rudy ordered police cars to be stationed outside mosques in all 5 boroughs of the city after 9/11 to ensure that muslims weren't targeted for retribution
2) "ordered 300...to their burning deaths. What kind of fool sends 300 COPS and firemen into a bldg about to collapse" - The fire department had already entered both towers before Rudy even arrived at the WTC. There were people still alive in the towers after the planes crashed, and the firemen put their own well being aside to go in and help them - something I'm sure you would never do. Also, there were no COPS in the bldg; the cops were directing people OUT of the bldg. And you might want to get your numbers straight; there were 343 firemen whose lives were taken by ISLAMIC racism and hatred.
3)"Quality of Life actually went down when Rudy was Mayor..." - There are all too many examples available to discredit such an assertion, so all I'll say is you obviously didn't live here while Rudy's predecessor was Mayor!
4) "Giuliani couldn't even be elected NYC Mayor, let alone President" - Incase you missed it; he was elected in 1993, and then re-elected in 1997 by one of the largest landslides in the history of NYC Mayoral elections.
In summary, you are a profoundly ill-informed bigot with no idea of what you're talking about. I'm sure you would never make such ignorant, racist statements about Rudy Giuliani if he was a practitioner of islam or a Person of Color.

Sounds to me like Democrats are very scared of Giuliani. And rightfully so, look at all of the polls in the historically democratic states. He is either ahead of the top democratic candidates, or nearly dead even. That does not bode well for democrats. Now I understand why liberals will bash the man any chance they get. Be afraid liberals, be very, very afraid.

Funny that the NYC fire department loathes Giuliani, who is a complete fake. Fiscal conservative who stands against crime? I suggest you read "A Fate Worse Than Bush," in August's Harper's. Well researched, and, to this NYC-born fellow, absolutely true.
Posted by: ed | July 18, 2007 03:30 PM
Conservatives like to use "liberal" as a slur. Liberal come from liberty, conservatives. But like Bush says of his alter egos, the Taliban, you hate us for our freedom. A freedom Il Duce Giuliani would love to take away.
Posted by: ed | July 18, 2007 03:36 PM
As an Evangelical Conservative, my options aren't exactly clear-cut this time around. There isn't any one candidate that really fills this role so I, along with other "EC's" are going to have use other criteria. Rather than staying home and sulking, we're still going to vote, even if it's to pick the lesser of 5 evils. Any Republican (even Rudy) in office will still be more palatable to us than Hillary!

Does the majority in this country really want a President that could show up at a high level summit meeting of nations dressed as a woman with full makeup and high heels?
