Ovechkin's Next Career?
Just how much do Canadians love Alex Ovechkin?
TSN, Canada's ESPN, flew a production crew to yesterday's practice to film Ovechkin for their "This Is My SportsCentre" commercial campaign.
So instead of practicing (like he needs it anyway) Ovechkin took his first crack at acting. And, of course, he nailed it. Remember, this is the same guy who hit a hole-in-one on his first day playing golf.
He spent about an hour on the ice at Ashburn Ice House, in his full uniform, reading from a script in front of TSN's cameras.
Here's what Ovechkin said:
"To play this game, you need speed, skill and toughness. No problem!"
"Me ... I just want to get out there and take chances, have fun and do something special, that you will never forget."
"Hey! I'm Russian. You got to be good."
"This is my highlight. This is my SportsCentre."
Ovechkin is the 33rd athlete to tape a 30 second ad for TSN's campaign, joining NASCAR drivers Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson, Champ Car driver Paul Tracy, Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby and Seattle Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander, to name a few.
Afterward, I asked Ovechkin if he was ready for Hollywood.
"For sure," he said. "It's easy, easy."

So, when's Ovie making his ESPN SportsCenter commercial?
Can anyone think of some good ideas?
How about having him at the SportsCenter Christmas party dancing to some of that Russian dance music. (ala Elaine from Seinfeld)

GM - good point.
ANON - that's fantastic! You should try to get your friends out to a game - then they'd understand, too. OV is amazing to watch! Enjoy it!

On a serious note, why is it that Mr. Ovechkin seems like he shoots like 10 times a game. What a puck hog!

Can you add the TV channels to the Washington Post's Capitals Schedule?

Caps Fan:
I'm not sure what you mean. I just looked at the paper and it says, Comcast Sportsnet, WTEM 980.
If you mean, like the exact channel, that would be tough because there are so many different carriers. I'd image Sportsnet is different on each of them.
If you mean something else, please email me: elbashirt@washpost.com.
Hope this helps.

It's because he scores on about 12% of his shots.
The guy is a natural at everything he does.

Ovechkins a goal scorer. You don't score if you don't shoot. He'll be top 3 in the league in goals, this year, next year and in 20 years of all time. Funny you use the word "precious" with your soft penguin players.

You know, I was not a hockey fan until Ovechkin. After seeing his highlights and personal information about him on Comcast Sportsnet, I just love this guy and love watching him play. He has turned me into a Hockey fan and I am a Black female! Go figure. My friends think I am crazy! He has such a lively personality and I like how he picked up English. His personal story. Go Alex!
