Tonight's Lineup

Here's the Caps' lineup for tonight's preseason game against Carolina Hurricanes at Verizon Center:

Goalies:Kolzig, Johnson.

Forwards:Ovechkin, Kozlov, Fleischmann, Semin, Nylander, Backstrom, Bourque, Laich, Klepis, Pettinger, Steckel and Gordon.

Defense:Morrisonn, Eminger, Schultz, Green, Poti, Pothier.

Note: The Caps will wear their white jerseys, so that the red jerseys make their debut in the home opener.

Also, I hear the sound system was also upgraded in addition to the new HD screens and televisions.

Update:Since a few of you have asked, the game will be broadcast on the Caps' website. From the team's release:

Washington Capitals fans can watch and listen to tonight's home preseason game versus Carolina and the final two home preseason home games live on WashingtonCaps.com. The Capitals and Hurricanes drop the puck at 7 p.m. and Steve Kolbe, the voice of the Capitals for the last 10 years, and former Capital Ken Sabourin will call the game live from Verizon Center.
Fans will also be able to listen to the Capitals lone remaining preseason road game on Sept. 26, at Philadelphia on WashingtonCaps.com. Mike Vogel, senior writer for WashingtonCaps.com, will join Kolbe in the booth to call the action from Wachovia Center.

Hope that helps.

Tarik - sorry to bug you about this here, but one of your colleagues was at Kettler Saturday writing a story about training camp. Just wondering if you know when the article might run (or if it already ran, I missed it). The writer is a petite female, light hair, fair complexion. Anyway, thanks!

wow...thats a very light lineup. Who is going to standup for our guys if it gets nasty???

Posted by: TJ | September 25, 2007 11:24 AM

I think the NHL should do what the NFL does, and allow the home team to pick for themselves whether they wear the whites or bolds. I personally think that the new whites look better than the reds, but we'll see how people react...

Posted by: Nick | September 25, 2007 11:26 AM

TJ: This just in - you've been deputized. Good luck, partner!

Posted by: JT | September 25, 2007 11:43 AM

JT- thanks...which way to the ice :)

Posted by: TJ | September 25, 2007 11:46 AM

TJ has a point though - not a single guy in that lineup will drop em.

Ovechkin might be the forward with the most fights in the lineup!

Posted by: Stormblue | September 25, 2007 11:53 AM

> Who is going to standup for our guys if it gets nasty???

True, especially after that bout in Isles-Rangers game. I've heard Simon landed a good punch on Orr. Good news! More of that... :-)

Anyone know if the game will be shown on nhl.tv, or whereever folks were able to go online to watch the game vs Ottawa?

Posted by: SM | September 25, 2007 11:59 AM

SM - its on the schedule for nhl.tv.

Posted by: TJ | September 25, 2007 12:17 PM

SM-

Yeah, the game should be on the Center Ice feed on Nhl.tv

I logged in earlier today and it was still listed as one of the two games for tonight.

Posted by: OgieOgelthorpe | September 25, 2007 12:17 PM

I think some of the young guys might drop the gloves tonight; it's getting late and they might think a little edge distinguishes them.

Posted by: Kurt | September 25, 2007 12:20 PM

This just in - AO scratched; Stormblue will go in his place. Looking forward to the proverbial dropping of gloves tonight.

Posted by: JT | September 25, 2007 12:22 PM

looks like the 4th line is the "Last shot" line.

Posted by: TJ | September 25, 2007 12:25 PM

Awesome. That's a pure skill lineup.

I didn't notice it so much at the rookie camp back in July, but Borque is one tiny, tiny little guy. Guys like that tend to have a bit of a chip on their shoulder (Hunter, Fleury, etc). I have a hunch he'd drop the gloves if it came to it. You guys are right, though. No heavy hitters in that lineup.

Can't wait to see and hear the new system at VC. Oh, and hockey. I would mind a bit of that either. It's been a while.

Posted by: HolyOlie | September 25, 2007 12:30 PM

No doubt about it on this game, this is make or break. Klepis, Steckel and Laich duking it out for forwards, Eminger and Schultz duking it out on D.

Tarik, any word from the league about the Islanders-Rangers game and any fines or suspensions?

Posted by: freakinandpeakin | September 25, 2007 1:31 PM

alpca -- I think it's going to run Sunday in the Sunday Source section.

Posted by: Tarik | September 25, 2007 1:34 PM

Man, reading about last night's Isle's & Rangers game reminded me of last years game between the Caps and Thrashers when things got nasty in the last 3 minutes. That was awesome to see in person. However, the best brawl I've seen was in Norfolk a few years ago when the Admirals were playing the Lowell Loch Monsters. Trenty Yawney tried to deck the opposing coach on the way to their respective dressing rooms and then both teams filed out of the dressing rooms...some half clothed, to duke it out. I will never forget watching the guy at the Zamboni door scramble for his life to get the doors shut so the fight didn't get off the rink. Man he was scared out of his wits...moved pretty well for an old guy I must say. As for tonight, I don't envision the Caps having to stand up for themselves. I don't think either coach (Laviolette or Hanlon) would tolerate a donnybrook during the preseason, especially with so much at risk during before the season begins. Should be a clean game with the Caps coming out on top of course.

Posted by: Mitch | September 25, 2007 2:03 PM

Thanks for the info Tarik. I just scored some tickets behind the bench w/ some friends. I can't wait. How does Carolina's line up look?

Posted by: someone else who knows | September 25, 2007 2:19 PM

Laviolette should be shot. He doesn't allow players to fight and if they do, they're fined and/or suspended. I'm only a Carolina fan in town this week, but miss the old days of the Boston Bruins and guys who would duke it out for pride. NHL, no hitting league. Thanks Bettman.

Nice article on Ov and the caps in The Hockey News.

I know how this is going to go over but, as one who loved the glory days of the Patrick Division and the intense nastiness of those rivalries, I think the fighting aspects of the game have diminished to the point of being irrelevant. Physicality is one thing; it's nice to have a Brashear securing the perimeter. But goonery in the form of pre-arranged duels is stupid. It isn't hockey, and guys like Orr, Simon, Hollweg, serve little purpose on a hockey team, IMO.

Posted by: shaggy | September 25, 2007 3:23 PM

Why is Klepis still here? Cut him already mcPhool.

The Caps will wear their white jerseys, so that the red jerseys make their debut in the home opener.

That's just stupid.

Posted by: | September 25, 2007 3:26 PM

"That's just stupid."

Nice to see that as much as the Caps have changed, the rampaging idiocy on this board hasn't. What do you care? It's exhibition play. It's meaningless.

Posted by: HolyOlie | September 25, 2007 3:35 PM

Bourque is a tiny guy, but in Hershey he has no problems dropping the gloves so I can see it happening should he need to. I really hope he stays up or gets some fill-in time this year.

Posted by: | September 25, 2007 3:49 PM

Hey HolyOlie.
Leave anonymous alone!
It obviously took tremendous brain power to come up 'McPhool'.

Posted by: slappy | September 25, 2007 3:54 PM

I think borque and laich would fit well together. I don't think Gordon is in real danger of losing his job, as he is our best defensive forward. Steckel is realy showing his worth as a key face-off man, so Klepis will need to step it up to get a job.

It's between those two I see the struggle for a job, at least for tonights game.

Posted by: czechsmix | September 25, 2007 4:02 PM

True, but he completely missed out on the opportunity to replace "Caps" with "Craps," and I just can't respect a troll who misses out on an original gem like that.

Posted by: HolyOlie | September 25, 2007 4:04 PM

tarik does this mean we'll be able to WATCH the game online or just listen to it?

Posted by: dcfury | September 25, 2007 4:24 PM

dcfury - If you had visit the Caps website you might be able to figure that out.

Posted by: TJ | September 25, 2007 4:31 PM

the caps site is my opening page when i go on the internet, and i didn't even see a link to LISTEN to the game. from now on you might try actually ANSWERING the question instead of just wasting space. just a thought

Posted by: dcfury | September 25, 2007 6:37 PM

dcfury

I'm hoping something will come up too. When I go to the Caps site, the only link to hear or see something leads me to the NHL Video Portal, which requires a subscription that I'm not interested in paying. Maybe the site will show something via their Caps TV link. I'll keep looking around and update if I find anything useful.

Posted by: Puckdawg69 | September 25, 2007 7:01 PM

Well, I finally gave up on the video. I don't think there's any way to get it besides that NHL video portal. I'm just listening to the game.

Posted by: Puckdawg69 | September 25, 2007 7:13 PM

you can sign up at nhltv for free its very easy

Posted by: | September 25, 2007 7:47 PM

When they say watch they weren't kidding. Theres no audio.

Posted by: phibar | September 25, 2007 7:50 PM

I'm pretty happy with the way the puck possession style is working out so far this preseason. Opponent held to single-digit shots in the first again, and sounds like some overall very solid play (although I wish Klepis could finish).

Posted by: Kurt | September 25, 2007 7:54 PM

These people that lack the guts to sign ( Anonymous ) their messages are true Chicken S--ts. Heck, mos of us wouldn't know you anyway. So,what's the problem? What are you afraid of?

Posted by: anonymous | September 25, 2007 8:38 PM

My God Schultz is AWFUL. there's no way he should be playing in the NHL. Slow and soft.

Posted by: | September 25, 2007 8:58 PM

So, tell me. Do the Caps take their skates off during the 3rd period?
