'OvechKam' Coming to a TV Near You
When the Caps host the Flames next Wednesday, viewers at home will be able to get a unique view of the action. A special broadcast on CSN+ will feature a camera focused on Alex Ovechkin for the entire game, giving fans an "unprecedented look at the most prolific player in the NHL today," according to Comcast SportsNet.
More from Comcast:
The CSN+ broadcast will use a split screen so viewers are able to watch the "OvechKam" and regular game broadcast simultaneously. Comcast SportsNet's primary channel will air the Capitals-Flames live in high definition with the traditional full-game view.
I'm told that TSN and Rogers Sportsnet in Canada have done similar broadcasts, focusing an iso-cam on Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux.
Guess I'll have to record the game so I can check it out when I get home.

Tarik,
Asked on the previous blog - Do you know who was skating at Ketler Iceplex this morning. I thought it was Federov because he was wearing a helmet with 91 on it, however, if Federov is there - it could not have been him.
Was it Pothier?
Posted by: 828 | March 5, 2008 3:43 PM
How about SeminKam?
Posted by: Anonymous | March 5, 2008 3:44 PM
Could be interesting! I guess I'll have to DVR it just to see what it's like...Someone remind me :)
Posted by: K | March 5, 2008 3:47 PM
@828
I don't know. But I will ask GMGM tonight. That would be great news for Brian.
Posted by: Tarik | March 5, 2008 3:47 PM
That would be great if it's Pothier.
I know Comcast had an Ovetch-Cam for a little while for highlights, but this looks to be a lot more then that. Should be an interesting experiment.
Posted by: EricS | March 5, 2008 3:49 PM
Thanks Tarik,
He was just skating full rink laps - nothing serious - just laps around some cones set at each goal line.
Posted by: 828 | March 5, 2008 3:51 PM
828, it's all part of Papa Schultz's extremely complicated misinformation strategy. Don't be fooled! ^_^

@828
shhhh... Scouts, they are everywhere, that's why Pothier was wearing 91 and 91 was wearing Pothier. If you saw 8, it was actually Semin... But they are scratching their heads in Buffalo right now asking the same question.
It's not about the game, it's all about the maneuvers. Maneuvers are what makes the difference between correct and falcified scout's report and win or lose in hockey.
General Chief of Staff Papa Panzer Schultz

91 is wearing Pothier? Like Silence of the Lambs?
Posted by: AP | March 5, 2008 4:02 PM
No takers on that one?
Posted by: AP | March 5, 2008 4:15 PM
I am planning on attending the Caps/Flames game so I'll be DVR'ing this to watch when i get back. It'll be kinda weird staring at Ovechkin on the bench while play goes on during the game....
Posted by: Sombrero Guy | March 5, 2008 4:20 PM
Ovechcam: ridiculous. It's a team sport not a personality cult. The last thing I want to watch is Ovechkin picking his nose on the bench.
Posted by: twils | March 5, 2008 4:26 PM
Especially riveting will be watching him serve a bench minor for too many men.
Posted by: old time hockey | March 5, 2008 4:28 PM

"TSN did almost that. "
I was waiting for:

I will compile a montague (sp?) of all his best snot-rockets of the night.
While I do agree it is a team game, the guy attracts attention that this town really needs.
Posted by: FFS Enough | March 5, 2008 4:38 PM
Is this a slow news day T? And yes I took the liberty of shortening your name Tarik, because you're cool like that.
Posted by: AP | March 5, 2008 4:43 PM
Really hope the guys pull a win out tonight against the slugs. Watched the game last night and it was pretty physical. Hope they are tired. Even Miller got feisty.
Oh, and is it just me or does Afiniginov (sp) remind anyone else of Semin. He has some wicked moves, but also gets thrown off the puck a lot. He even looks kinda like him. Actually, I kept waiting for the VS announcers to comment on how much he looks like Ovie. (They were so boring I am not even sure it was the same announcers from the previous Caps game, but was still expecting it).
Posted by: Kim | March 5, 2008 4:43 PM
@Chief Boo!,
Leeguru is out of tow
Posted by: Steve R | March 5, 2008 4:52 PM
Alright now everyone, how about a little positive karma for our team tonight. The sky is not falling and locusts have not plagued our land. However, I am going to will a certain gigantic lizard (or whatever the heck Godzilla was anyway) to have his game of the season and show us all how important it is to have depth.
By the way, I still love Mike Green, Bradley is advancing on my list, and I predict that all four Russians on our team will have a big night.
Posted by: Kim | March 5, 2008 4:53 PM
I second the request to have Ovechkin mic'ed for the OvechKam night!
That would be really interesting to hear what he said the whole game.
Posted by: Stormblue | March 5, 2008 4:53 PM
Miller may speak Japanese, but I am pretty sure that Godzilla kicked a lot of Japanese tush.
Okay, time for me to go have my pregame meal and start all of my pregame rituals.
Posted by: Kim | March 5, 2008 4:55 PM
It would be cool to have OV mic'd. We'd find out if he speaks English or Russian on the ice haha.
Posted by: Sombrero Guy | March 5, 2008 5:01 PM
BB's job is secure for now but Ruff's is not. I'm just hoping the pressure to make post-season weighs heavy and it gets to them first. Either way, we just need to stay out of the box and play the game BB dictates. Nothing we all don't already know.
Let's Go Cap-I-Tals!!
Posted by: BernieWolfeFan | March 5, 2008 5:05 PM
Speaking of cameras, did anyone notice the cameras in goal Mon night? Did folks at home get the goal cam view, or did they just do that in prep for the Sun NBC game?
Greg:
From your last post on the previous thread, you're my hero! :-)
Someone Else Who Knows Steve:
Leeguru is out of tow?!? Where was he towed to? Do they not have Internet access at the impound lot?
I am SO ready for tonight's game - I hope the lamp looks like flickering Christmas tree lights! :-D LET'S GO CAPS!!!!

You know what stinks? Comcast Sports Net has been dropped by cable providers on the Eastern Shore. Both Easton Cable and Atlantic Broadband dropped CSN as of March first citing rising fees and the lack of the Orioles. I guess they don't think people care about the Caps, Wiz, and Terps East of Annapolis. I picked the wrong night to stay overnight for business. Good thing there is a Green Turtle in Easton with DirectTV.
Posted by: Sombrero Guy | March 5, 2008 5:22 PM
"I will compile a montague (sp?) of all his best snot-rockets of the night."
And I will compile a Capulet.

Why is Semin always put on the right wing when his natural position is left? I don't understand why BB doesn't put Semin on the left and someone else on the right.
Posted by: Puck the pens | March 5, 2008 5:26 PM
Yeah! I hope the back of Miller's neck gets a sunburn from the red light going off all night!
Posted by: BernieWolfeFan | March 5, 2008 5:45 PM
Meh. When I first heard yesterday that there would be a camera ON Ovechkin for this game, I envisioned a helmetcam type of view where we would get to see what Ovechkin sees out there on the ice. This is a lot less interesting.
Posted by: Brad | March 5, 2008 5:49 PM
@ John in Mpls & @ FFS
The Montague versus Capulets booger montage for the OV-Cam. I love it! Who says Shakespeare is dead? Maybe we can get Booger from Revenge of the Nerds to sing "We're gonna need a montage, yeah" from Team America. Followed by a rendition of America, F---, Yeah!" Then show the marinet get down scence. Yes, it's all coming together.

@Confused,
Capeman is an accountant who lives in his mom's basement. On game day, he wears a red cape to the phone booth & he has disco balls on sticks that light up.
Did I miss anything?

I hope Bruce opens the game with the Bradley-Steckel-Cooke line again. Let Buffalo put its top line out on home ice, then the Caps will take it to them right off the bat (or "right off the stick" in hockey terms).
Posted by: rogerr | March 5, 2008 6:32 PM
@Boo!
the goal cameras were there because the Caps game was the VS game for the night
Posted by: mike | March 5, 2008 6:33 PM
Anyone know what channel the Caps game is on tonight vs. Buffalo? Caps site says CSN-DC+. In Fairfax, that usually means channel 74, but the guide shows College Basketball. When I called Cox they told me it's only on Center Ice.
If you can help a man get his Caps fix, thank you in advance!
Posted by: Shmoo | March 5, 2008 6:43 PM
@Brad A helmet cam on OV? That would be fun to watch, if only just to see how many board busting hits it would last.
Posted by: TheCapitalist | March 5, 2008 6:45 PM
Here is hoping that the Caps bottled the magic they had on Monday night that allowed them to pour in the goals and kept the Bruins bottled up.
Here is hoping that Olie CLEARLY sees and stops the 20 or so shots that the Caps allow the Sabres to get off.
Here is hoping that the Caps understand that they are in the playoffs for the playoffs: no letting up; just like in the playoffs.
If the team can make a sustained stretch run, then the season won't be a "complete failure.
LET'S GO CAPITALS!
Posted by: Clarendon | March 5, 2008 6:46 PM
With a win the Sabres would be in the playoffs holy circle tonight. They know what's at stake - they're going to want it bad.
Just an heads-up for Bruce: play smart. Don't play thinking we're the best in the league. The Sabres can be so good.
45 minutes till face off... it's going to be such a huge game... excitement!

RE: Capeman
haha, well I have not seen Capeman yet but I have no problem with fans bringing a little personality to the game with them. I'd rather have a Smiley (horn guy) or a Goat (loud guy) and presumably a Capeman in place of a disinterested DC profiessional. Then again, I DO wear a lucky Sombrero to games. But trust me, there is a worthwhile Capitals related story behind it. Just ask Karl Alzner. He'll be able to tell you about it.
Posted by: Sombrero Guy | March 5, 2008 6:56 PM

It is supposed to be 74 - I think the channel guide is wrong.
Posted by: Anonymous | March 5, 2008 6:57 PM
See, if you all would have been down for the road trip - we would be up there right now representing DC in "not a thing to do" town called Buffalo.
This game makes me nervous a bit - but I hope they learned their lesson with the way they played against Toronto.
Hope ATL breaks its 8 game losing streak in regulation tonight as well.
Posted by: 828 | March 5, 2008 6:59 PM
okay, I just asked GMGM about the mysterious skater at KCI today. It was Michael Nylander.

Yup - the channel guide is wrong - the Caps pre-game show is on Cox 74 now ...
Posted by: Anonymous | March 5, 2008 7:02 PM
Sombrero -
I was thinking - if I won the lotto, I would go to ALL the caps games and dress up as the Ultimate Warrior with the 2nd logo painted on my face... the one that is shaped as a W and an Eagle - such an awesome logo.
Thought that would be pretty cool. I am at most games, but wish I had the time and money to make it to every single game.
A win tonight makes us that much closer to our Two 7 game win streaks...
Posted by: 828 | March 5, 2008 7:02 PM
Michael Nylander? Good Lord!
Posted by: Finn | March 5, 2008 7:03 PM

Pre-game conference joke of the night by Ruff.

federov looks at wrist shot but lets it go by....why not try to block it?...he is not our pk answer.....maybe brash should get some pk time..
Posted by: wendel | March 5, 2008 8:57 PM
Greg S.
Should not have been a hooking penalty against the Caps on their PP goal - Afenoganov (sp?) was holding the stick.
Posted by: 828 | March 5, 2008 8:58 PM
The replay looked much different...
Posted by: BernieWolfeFan | March 5, 2008 9:00 PM
Wow, Backstrom can finish. I wish he would shoot more as he has a good shot. He's an amazing passer but over time he will get more comfortable with shooting the puck instead of looking to pass first all the time. The more I watch him, the more he reminds me of Forsberg.
Posted by: Lowell | March 5, 2008 9:01 PM
Nope. Replay shows a good check by AO. Nice shoulder.
Would love to see Brashear get his 300th! He'll be re-negotiating his contract as a scoring winger! LOL
Posted by: Greg S. | March 5, 2008 9:02 PM
I think Fed looks alright - think he is alright on the PK as well. Wish he would have punched on of his two shots in though.
He is mainly there for his leadership - I honestly believe he is doing wonders for Semin.
Posted by: 828 | March 5, 2008 9:02 PM
That is what I meant, no call was the right call.
Posted by: Anonymous | March 5, 2008 9:04 PM
On leadership, I'm sure. He didn't look very - animated - on PK on the sscore.
Afino is amazing, no?
Posted by: Greg S. | March 5, 2008 9:06 PM
Caps are 91% when leading after 2...
We NEED this win... let's keep it up... 20 min left.
Posted by: 828 | March 5, 2008 9:07 PM
Wow ... I'm not a nail biter, but this game could drive me to it! I hope we build a nice lead so that I can start breathing again. ;-)
Greg:
Afino is amazing, yes! :-)
Posted by: Boo! | March 5, 2008 9:09 PM
Yeah, Afino and Semin are 2 of a kind... both make the opponents look like lil league'ers
Posted by: 828 | March 5, 2008 9:09 PM
Think we will go after him? Just get a bunch of Russians on our team... that is why we changed back to the Red.
Posted by: 828 | March 5, 2008 9:10 PM
Washington Reds?
Posted by: Anonymous | March 5, 2008 9:16 PM
Get a Ruskie team? Like the Detroit of Fedorov's time? Not bad. I don't know what the budget looks like. You know that Green will be re-signed for some pretty good bucks. I think that Huet will be, too. Not too sure about Fedorov, though, or Cooke.
We can't get Afino anyway. People on this blog have a tough enough time with our own players (FedOrov). We get Afinogenov will drive them nuts! And, yes, that's how you spell it.
BTW, I was saying "Nope" to my comment on the assumed no-call penalty.
Posted by: Greg S. | March 5, 2008 9:17 PM
Looks like Carolina is gonna get those 2 points.
At least it'll be in regulation, hopefully
Posted by: MikeZ | March 5, 2008 9:18 PM
Does it sound like the NHL.COM ad says "Crosbytch?"
Posted by: Greg S. | March 5, 2008 9:23 PM
I hope we sign Green and Huet...
I dont see why we wouldnt sign Fed - he would def have to settle for less... Cooke - who knows... he seems to fit in with BB's system.
One thing I know - we have some good depth now... that is a good thing - also, might be able to get some good buys with them.
Posted by: 828 | March 5, 2008 9:23 PM
Fedorov doesn't look lazy, he does look old.
Faceoffs - 2/2 (50%), 3 shots
I think he plays better than in previous game. We'll see.
Posted by: Anonymous | March 5, 2008 9:24 PM
Doesn't really matter for the game or Alex, but Kovalchuk scored.
Would be nice for Alex to get 60 sooner than later.

another PK - thank goodness! come on boys!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Greg S. | March 5, 2008 9:32 PM
Lowell:
I don't know if they are booing tonight because they thought Ovie should have had a penalty earlier (just before Backs scored), or if it is a carry over from last season - he had an unfortunate check against Briere last year and they never forgave him for it.
Posted by: Boo! | March 5, 2008 9:32 PM
@Lowell
Last year, Ovie boarded Briere and knocked him out. It was a fairly late hit, and Briere was already leaving the ice, so he smacked his head against the bench door.
Posted by: MikeZ | March 5, 2008 9:33 PM
sabres fans hate ovie for a hit on Briere last season. It was not the cleanest hit. On another note Why do the "Sabres" have an image of an American Bison on their sweaters? Just call yourselves the Buffalo Buffalos already.
Posted by: kevbpgc | March 5, 2008 9:35 PM

Actually, your question makes me think of one of my favorite Ovie clips. Have you seen the one where he is gliding on the ice in the old away sweater, kindof leaning to one side, with his hand cuffed to one ear? That was at a game in Buffalo (probably the first one after "the" incident?!?) - he had been getting booed all night, so right after he scored, he put his hand up to his ear like that. I don't know if his point was BRING IT ON or WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY NOW or what, but it was pretty funny, regardless. That clip always makes me smile! :-)

Yeah PK! Okay then the Slugtown Slugs. Whats with the "Sabres"? Is Buffalo a center of Antique weapons dealers/ manufacturers?
Posted by: kevbpgc | March 5, 2008 9:42 PM
Have not seen much of Semin tonight - he is due for something to happen...
Posted by: 828 | March 5, 2008 9:44 PM
I remember that clip, Boo! It's definitely one of my favorites.
"Louder! Your boos are music to me!"
-(Believed to be going through Ovie's head at that moment)

A break on that goal but the Caps deserved this win. They needed the win and they delivered. Olie did good.
Now, forget it. Next game is the most important game of the season now.

From ESPN.com RE: fantasy playoffs:
Washington vs. New York Rangers
If Crosby's tied up in La Belle Province, well, Ovechkin should be on Broadway. The Russian star has never been in the postseason, and GM George McPhee's multiple moves at the trade deadline deserve some kind of playoff reward. Rangers superstar Jaromir Jagr, of course, played for the Caps before deciding not to try anymore. In general, getting the Caps into Manhattan for a significant playoff struggle would have to help that franchise get some badly needed face time. Finally, Bruce Boudreau, the Caps' coach, is the patron saint for all those minor league bench bosses who had to wait and wait and wait for their chances to coach in the big leagues while others less qualified got their shot.
Posted by: Boo! | March 5, 2008 10:09 PM
Did Olie look good? Kind of... But I'd rather won't see him again in the net. 59 foot wrist shot by Kotalik in 5 hole, very questionable. And then Kolzig falls into the net instead of in front of the net, pucks goes in because of it... They just couldn't tell if it completely crossed the red line or not, but it was on the red line for sure.
...no, I don't want his super good plays, too nerve-breaking...
Just hope Huet will take over from now.

There you go, Boo!

Yo:
Way to be in the momment and celebrate the fact that Olie had a good game. 1 of 26 and the 1 was on a PP?!? Come on, already ... even Miller let in 3 of 23!
Posted by: Boo! | March 5, 2008 10:13 PM
Are the pathetic Buffalo fans still booing Ovie because he shoved Briere from behind last year and Brier crumpled up like a girl and flew into the boards? Or is it because he smokes them for so many goals? If it's because of Briere...that's stupid, he sold them out for a fat contract and regardless, he speared Ovi and Jurcina in the groin in games after that hit anyway (because he's a punk and a coward...I friggin HATE Danny Briere).
Regardless, keep booing losers, cuz Ovi eats it up goal after goal.
Posted by: Sam | March 5, 2008 10:14 PM
Everytime I see or hear "Yo" now, I think of Miller in the Amp commercial... "Yo-mamma-ween." I don't know why.
Nothing personal, Yo. I just do. I think that ad's hysterical.

@Boo
Way to be in the momment and celebrate the fact that Olie had a good game.
Maybe I am too negative, but it's too nerve breaking. I'd rather celebrate the great game by Ovie. All 3 goals are his, even he didn't get an assist on 2nd one.
If it were before Huet, I'd be happy, now Huet has raised the level of Caps goaltending. We might see Olie again, but I sure hope not.
Posted by: Yo | March 5, 2008 10:17 PM
Olie was screened on Kotalik's goal. He really couldn't do much about it. Overall, good game by Olie.
Posted by: elicea | March 5, 2008 10:18 PM
Sam:
I agree - I remember when Briere speared Ovie; I vaguely recall the Juice spearing, and he also took a cheap shot at Olie. He plays dirty, cowardly and cheap. I can't stand him ...
Posted by: Boo! | March 5, 2008 10:19 PM
Olie was screened on Kotalik's goal. He really couldn't do much about it.
Why he was on his knees? And if he was on his knees, he must cover all low pucks...
Alright maybe I am too negative.. but after Huet I probably can't help myself... :-)
Posted by: Yo Mama | March 5, 2008 10:22 PM
Greg:
OK - you are my hero again! ;-)
Yo:
All I can say is, if Huet played the exact same game, you and others would be singing his praises right now. You gotta admit, that's pretty hypocritical ...
Posted by: Boo! | March 5, 2008 10:27 PM
Yo Mama -- he wasn't on his knees before the shot was taken. He was dropping to his knees to cover as much as the net as possible because of the Buffalo player screening him.
Giving up 1 goal to Buffalo, which put up 5 goals against Philly last night, is pretty impressive. Let's leave it at that.
Posted by: Jeff | March 5, 2008 10:29 PM
@ Yo
Did you not see the replay of Kotalik's goal. Someone was right in front him. He could barely see what was going on. You ask why he was on his knees. He probably saw the puck late, and tried to react as fast as he could to save it. Unfortunately, he was unable to.
As much as I have been defending Olie this season, after that game against Toronto, i've started to realize, that his time is pretty much up. I agree with Huet being the #1 goaltender. Olie is too inconsistent for me to choose him as #1.
Posted by: elicea | March 5, 2008 10:30 PM
Shots from the blue line typically are on or near the ice. If a goalie can't see, they go into the butterfly to cover as much of the net area as they can. They're playing the odds. Unfortunately, Olie seems to have a puck magnate for knees.
Given that, I would rather have Olie in net than a hurt/ailing Huet. I want Huet healthy, or as healthy as he can be at this time in the season. There are some pretty important games left. Like 14 of them. If Olie plays like he did tonight, and the lads in front play 60 minutes each and every game from here on out, we'll be OK.
Posted by: Greg S. | March 5, 2008 10:52 PM
HUGE win by the Caps tonight. Olie played a solid game, and no I don't blame him for having a PP shot get by him when he was clearly screened, and the puck may have bee deflected (couldn't tell, I was watching on a booth TV at the Green Turtle in Easton because no cable company down there was comcast sports net anymore).
@828
The Ultimate Capital Warrior would be awesome. A friend of mine goes to MD Terps home games dressed in Hulkamania gear. He was in a Baltimore Sun photo this past season.

Posted by: Greg S. | March 5, 2008 11:06 PM
Not going to say that Olie's been the best in the league this year... but let's put this another way for those that say he's the worst starter in the league... are there really 29 goalies you would trade straight-up (assuming salary wasn't an issue) for in the league for Olie? I mean would you rather have Philly's Biron/Niittymaki mess? How about Ottawa's Gerber/Emery? LA's Jason LaBarbera? Ellis/Mason in NSH?
Posted by: grinch | March 5, 2008 11:13 PM
I wonder how much Sabres fans are crying about Ovechkins shoulder check that led to our second goal
Posted by: Sombrero Guy | March 5, 2008 11:13 PM
@Sombrero Guy
All of them! They were grumbling about it for the balance of the game from the time it occurred. I thought it was a hook or holding myself. The replay, though, showed just how good AO really is.
Posted by: Greg S. | March 5, 2008 11:32 PM
He was dropping to his knees to cover as much as the net as possible because of the Buffalo player screening him.
Maybe he did it right technically. Dropping on the knees is to cover the pucks that go low. And the puck did go low.
I guess he too slow/old, that's it. Remember, there was no deflection and it was a WRIST shot, not 100mph slapshot, from a blue line.
I don't know, I am very suspicious of Kolzig from now on.
Posted by: Yo Momma | March 5, 2008 11:35 PM
@Yo Momma
I was screaming at the TV "clear the screen, clear the screen" right before that shot. Granted we were on a PK and when you're down a man, one guy tends to be left unchecked but I wish one of our D had moved him out of there. That goal was a result of a screen. Not age, not lack of reflexes, just lack of visibility. On plays like those, the goalie plays the odds and guesses and ten reacts when he gets sight of the puck again. Can't blame Olie for that one.
Posted by: Sombrero Guy | March 5, 2008 11:40 PM
POTI SUCKS!!!! He was personally responsible for the only goal the Sabres scored, first he did not clear, then he left his guy standing in the crease and hit him after the goal was scored. He also let three Sabres skate around him and take shots on goal. He was an F-ing pylon tonight, bench him till April. Jurcina and Schultz were only a little better, our D was pathetic. Screw all the Kolzig haters on this list, with that D Roy would have looked bad most nights.

Hooray the Caps won. Boo on Kolzig's five hole. Boo on the refs for calling a bunch of BS penalties on the Caps. Boo on Schultz not delivering a half-slapper with moderate vengeance. Hooray for not having to yell at my TV too much.
That is all.
Posted by: Kip | March 5, 2008 11:50 PM
Well, I kept my promise and didn't watch Olie's start. But I had to tune in for the second and third periods. HAHA. Good game. Olie played well enough to help secure the win, but my SERIOUS complaints have been from the standpoint that Olie is simply no longer consistently like he was tonight. Not even close in fact. And HE STILL almost managed to let Buffalo back in it by inexplicably flipping onto his back (and into the goal) which resulted in the puck going in and a long review that THANK GOD went our way. There were also many juicy rebounds that we were fortunate enough to clear.
Hope Hip Hip Huet is ready for Saturday in Bean Town!!
Very sorry to hear about Stecks' injury.
HUGE road win. Ovechkin continues his MVP play and leadership and Backstrom made possibly the best pass I've seen this season by any player on his 60 foot saucer leading to Ovechkin's breakaway goal.
Posted by: MTB | March 5, 2008 11:53 PM
Boo! Thanks for the back up, let's start the Danny Briere is a B***H club. Although that is entirely irrelevant to the Caps great performance tonight, other than lame boooooing from lame Sabres fans.
Posted by: Sam | March 5, 2008 11:55 PM
Another huge win for the Caps. As a whole, the team is beginning to play playoff hockey. We went in and beat the Sabres in Buffalo for the first time since '03. Ovie was great tonight and I thought Olie played great too. It was great to see Green flying in to keep the puck from leaving the offensive zone. Bottom line...two points in the win column and that much closer to an elusive playoff spot. LETS GO CAPS! And a speedy recovery to Steckel. We need his grit, faceoffs, and PK.

I take it the game eventually came on CSN+ (Cox 74 in Fairfax County)?
Posted by: Bubba | March 6, 2008 2:22 AM
Yo
Ummmm...Kolzig is by definition a BUTTERFLY goalie. I hate to spell it out in such layman terms but the butterfly position is when a goalie is on his knees covering the bottom half of the net. I've been critical of Kolzig this year...especially regarding his lateral movement and coverage of the posts...but me thinks you're way off on this one.
/great game

@Question
It is my understanding that there will be a split screen, with the game on the left and OvechKam on the right, so there will be the regular broadcast feed from Comcast
Posted by: Sombrero Guy | March 6, 2008 9:16 AM
Olie has upped his game since the Toronto loss. I notice that when he came in after Huet got hurt he played with a fire I haven't seen in a long time. He was shoving Bruins trying to park in front of net. Getting into shooters faces after making a save. I think bringing Huet in only makes Olie better. We now have two goalies for the stretch run and don't have to worry about one getting worn out.
Posted by: Lowell | March 6, 2008 9:35 AM
Anyone know what channel CSN+ is on DirecTV?

Long time due. TSN did almost that. They'd show repeats of Ovechkin's shifts/sequences when one camera was focusing on him. Finally it's on Comcast for those who have it.
