Tonight's Lineup for Game 4

The lineup hasn't changed from this morning's pre-game skate. Or has it? As of 5 p.m., Coach Bruce Boudreau still wouldn't say whether Sergei Fedorov or Nicklas Backstrom will center Alex Ovechkin's line tonight at Wachovia Center. Oh well, we'll know soon enough.

Also, Flyers defenseman Jaroslav Modry will play despite his father's death on Tuesday.

LETS GO CAPS!!

Posted by: IT'S ON! | April 17, 2008 6:23 PM

If Backstrom is centering Ovie's line, I might give up on the game. I think moving Fedorov is a smart decision, and I was calling for it during Game 3. But then Schultz, who was never fully healthy, got hurt, so Fedorov had to take a spot on the blueline. And he played admirably back there, too.

Posted by: Boo! | April 17, 2008 7:30 PM

Our PK seems to be working well. Flyers got some bad bounces, things are going our way for once, regardless of folks in the box...

Posted by: Boo! | April 17, 2008 7:50 PM

Jurnica = liablity.

Posted by: nadir | April 17, 2008 7:53 PM

Well, they are playing probably the best they have all series. If they keep it up, they can win. I've over Juice - he makes me nervous.

Posted by: Boo! | April 17, 2008 7:53 PM

Amazing how the Caps can outplay a team for 18 minutes and still come out looking like the loser. The first and second Flyers goals are all that's wrong with the Caps in the playoffs so far. How does a guy skate through two Caps, turn around and make an open cross-ice pass. I know Huet wasn't going to stop that, but he barely reacted to the pass, too. Terrible all around. I was feeling pretty good about this game, but the Caps just handed the momentum back to the Flyers simply because they can't exit the puck from their zone.

Posted by: Colin | April 17, 2008 7:54 PM

Next year, in my dreams:

Jurcina: gone
Schultz: gone
Poti: gone
Eminger: gone
Erskine: 7th, (maybe)

Jesus crow, I wish the Caps had anyone besides Morrisson (sp?) who could play halfway decent, you know, DEFENSE.

Posted by: Kip | April 17, 2008 7:55 PM

The Caps not clearing the puck and playing it daintily caused both goals. They want to walk it out of the zone. They keep burning themselves.

Posted by: nadir | April 17, 2008 7:56 PM

why hate on juice? last game not withstanding
he took a penalty, but it was embellished/forced by whatever flyer he hooked up with. Didn't we ask them to get physical?
Did I miss another blatant turnover? I'm confused.

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | April 17, 2008 7:56 PM

Maybe it's because we spent so much of the period on PK and PP, but I hardly noticed Cooke on the ice at all tonight. I'd like to see him get physical with the Flyers but he's been a non-factor in the series so far.

Posted by: tess | April 17, 2008 7:56 PM

@Colin

Completely agree... The Flyers are given us this game, and we are returning the favor in our zone.

I do like our energy, hopefully Jurcina and Morrisonn remember how to play hockey over the intermission.

Posted by: JSchon | April 17, 2008 7:57 PM

milan jurcina is terrible. it really speaks to our lack of depth at the position that he is still playing. at this point i think sami lepisto might even be a better option.

Posted by: drew | April 17, 2008 7:58 PM

I'm not sure but I think Cooke had a shorthanded attempt on the PK.

Posted by: uncatim | April 17, 2008 7:58 PM

Go Caps!

Posted by: Doctor King Huet | April 17, 2008 7:59 PM

@jmu

Not the penalty... not clearing the puck...

Posted by: JSchon | April 17, 2008 7:59 PM

First goal was because Jurnica decide to poke the puck up the boards rather than get it out.

Second goal Feds tries to skate it out and gets pick-pocketed.

If they would have just chipped it out or iced it, they probably wouldn't be tied.

Posted by: nadir | April 17, 2008 7:59 PM

And the Caps blew that PP after they scored on the 5-on-3. They kept trying to skate it in. They were rebuffed. They should've dumped and chased. Not glamorous, but effective in the playoffs. Then, Green did skate one in pretty far and decided to dump, which ended up in a hard around that the Flyers were able to clear easily. Made no sense. It's like they got up 2-1 and reverted back to the finesse, dainty game that's caused them two losses in this series. They felt comfortable and gave up that late goal. They have to knock that crap off.

Posted by: Colin | April 17, 2008 7:59 PM

uncatim-- he did, at least kind of

Posted by: Anonymous | April 17, 2008 7:59 PM

I'm not hating on Juice because of that amazingly BS call on him - I'm hating on him because I'm currently playing better defense than he is and I'm almost 3000 miles away.

Posted by: Kip | April 17, 2008 7:59 PM

Had all the momentum after the last PK, then pissed it all away with another late goal...unbelievable

Posted by: Moose33 | April 17, 2008 8:00 PM

defense upgrade has got to be gmgm's #1 priority...

does anyone else dislike poti as much as me?

Posted by: chris larry | April 17, 2008 8:01 PM

I know Huet wasn't going to stop that, but he barely reacted to the pass, too.

Colin, are you serious or are you kidding?

Posted by: King Huet | April 17, 2008 8:01 PM

GET POTI OUT OF OUR CREASE, HE BLOCKS HUET AND IS NOT PHYSICAL ENOUGH TO GET THE PHILLY O OUT OF THERE!!!

Posted by: BMT | April 17, 2008 8:01 PM

At least SOG are about the same (and were for the entire period). The last couple games we just didn't even shoot! So, they're shooting and playing physical - good signs!

Posted by: Boo! | April 17, 2008 8:01 PM

eh, I guess. He's doing a better job than I would, so I guess I tend to give them breaks. He's cleared it a few times...

Let's go Caps!!!

Jeff Carter needs to brush his teeth. just saying.

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | April 17, 2008 8:02 PM

@ King Huet

Here's my preface: I'm not blaming the goal on Huet. Not at all. It started well before that. But no, he didn't react well to it. The pass was made, and Huet didn't slide over. He kind of tumbled toward the shooter. Again, goal isn't his fault. Just noticing that his reaction time wasn't great. Really hasn't been through this entire series. He's made some nice saves, don't get me wrong. And I don't think Olie should've started this game. (I think Olie should've played the third period of Game 3). But his reaction time was pretty slow on that one.

Posted by: Colin | April 17, 2008 8:04 PM

The team looks good,

Backie is mad = GOOD

Semin is mad = GOOD

We are going to win tonight. (knock on wood)

Trust me, I am a doctor.

Posted by: Doctor King Huet | April 17, 2008 8:04 PM

@Colin

I am sorry, I have to disagree... Huet had no chances even to react... Modry was perfect... You can't react on those unless you are cheating...

Posted by: King Huet | April 17, 2008 8:06 PM

That period didnt end well but I can't help but smile when I think back and remember our 2 PP goals were because of that hobbit Briere.

Posted by: Moose33 | April 17, 2008 8:06 PM

new Tarik update...

Posted by: Anonymous | April 17, 2008 8:06 PM

@ King Huet

Fair enough. Just an observation I made.

Posted by: Colin | April 17, 2008 8:06 PM

All the people asking for eminger to be put in, I'm totally baffled. For a team who struggles desperately to get the puck of their own zone, he's absolutely the worst of the bunch.

Somebody needs to give Hatchet the cave man his own medicine... A good hard elbow right where his third eye is.

No mercy to cheap shot flyers, no mercy!

Posted by: King Huet | April 17, 2008 8:53 PM

To all Olie supporters,

When we say Capitals, we mean Kolzig,
When we say Kolzig, we mean Capitals...

Here's what Olie wanted to relay to you:

There's no time to be sentimental,
there's no time for goalie controversy,
we must unite like the army of one
and stick for better or worse with Christobal Huet

Now there's a chance, and it already happened in these playoffs with Hasek and Kiprisoff, of a meltdown, this is where Olie will come back on ice and stay tall in the net,
but now his message is, and he is a classy man,

STAY BEHIND HUET, SUPPORT HIM, because he needs it.

Alright?
