Our Warm-up in Perspective

For the last two days, Jason's been writing about the end of our current cold spell. I've done some number crunching, with the help of several computer models, and it looks like the high/low temperature over the coming week will be close to 47/34. To put this in perspective, the average high/low temperature last week in Washington, DC was 40/25 (compared to averages of 42/27).

While a warming of seven degrees (from last week to this week) may not sound like much, it's the equivalent of shifting from the typical late January weather in Philadelphia, Pa to the norms in Norfolk, Va. A welcome change for some, I'm sure, and a disappointment to ardent cold and snow lovers.

Me thinks the snow is slipping away for the winter of 07-08.

Looking like above average temps & snowless thru the 1st week in Feb. Still expecting temps 2b 3-5 degrees above average 4 the month of Feb.

We still have Feb/March to hope for snow. Dont give up. It has been warmer then usual. I'm hoping its becuase of La Nina cycle. I believe it will cool down just enough for 1 decent snow sometime in Feb. Pattern is looking more active next month.

VaTechBob,

I wouldn't say snowless. You live near me in Spotsy. We had about 2-3 inches couple weeks ago. Pretty lame but not snowless. There were about 20 accidents on Route 3 mostly from idiots in muscle cars thinking they had 4 wheel drive...

Can I direct anyone's attention to the radar returns/obs in WV?

Precip moving in from the west Chase? Looks interesting to say the least. Possibility that commuters could be in for a surprise tomorrow morning...

Not saying it won't snow in Feb, but 1st week looks to warm. Rt 3 is always fun when a little snow falls, I usually walk the dog to Rt 3 when it snows & watch the cars go sliding by.
