Alert: Six More Weeks of Winter

Finally, some good news for snow lovers...

Early this morning, Punxsutawney Phil announced:

As I look around me, a bright sky I see, and a shadow beside me. Six more weeks of winter it will be!

The "Prognosticator of all Prognosticators" has spoken. Egg in my face.

I hope Punxsy Phil right or I propose that we have a Capital Weather Gang cookout - the main course...groundhog stew.

;P

Is there any data on Phil's accuracy? I read that some groundhog in Georgia has been 98% accurate over the last 14 years.

Don't even look at the 12Z GFS. :-(

Generally conditions are such that we get SIX MORE WEEKS of winter regardless of whether the groundhog sees his shadow!!! It takes a while for the sun's angle to get high enough to melt snow within hours of falling.
