Forecast: A Bright Sunshiny Saturday
After yesterday's record-breaking rains, today's sunshine is a welcome sight. Nice weather repeats Sunday, notwithstanding an increase in clouds. High temperatures should climb to 50 or higher both weekend days and mild weather will continue into the first half of next week.
TODAY
Mostly sunny. 48-53. Behind yesterday's storm, a big area of high pressure will build in, clearing our skies. After a seasonably chilly start to the day (freezing downtown, upper 20s north and west), temperatures will rise about 20 degrees to give pretty much everyone high temperatures around 50. Clear skies and calm winds overnight, with lows from the upper 20s in the colder suburbs to the low 30s downtown.

SUNDAY
A few clouds, warmer by a nose. 50-55. As the high pressure responsible for Saturday's sunny skies moves offshore, we'll experience a gradual increase in clouds. Nonetheless, it will remain dry and we should add two to three degrees to Saturday's high temperatures area-wide.
A LOOK AHEAD
Cloudy skies on Monday will likely hold high temperatures below 50. A warm front passing through the region could produce a few showers in the afternoon and evening. Tuesday has the potential to be quite warm (behind the warm front) as highs reach 60-65. Showers are likely Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as a cold front comes through. Dry conditions return Wednesday afternoon through Friday, with high temperatures cooling to the 40s.

Is it reasonable to think we might get one last snow event of at least 3 inches??

Give me a break - this is above normal to be sure, but I doubt there are flocks of robins. So much alarmism.

Don't give up hope yet. In the winter of 1959-1960, the months Dec-Feb were above normal temps at DCA. Up until Feb 14th, only a trace of snow had fallen for the season. Then over the next four weeks over 24" of snown fell including 3 storms of 4" or more while temps were below normal from Feb 19th thru March 26th. March alone averaged over 10 degrees below normal. I believe there were 7 days in the first half of the month when maximums were 32 or below.

Just 2 yrs ago we had highs in the 60s during the first few days of February then many got 1 foot or so of snow a week later. Anyway, Tuesday looks warm.. might get near 70 if we can get some sunshine.

While the sight of Robins is generally associated with the return of spring - warm weather softens the ground, spring rain brings the worms close to the surface - Robins are not consisdered long range migrants. Robins are capable of changing their dietary needs during the winter and thus move to where there are more berries and nuts, usually a section of forest in your own neighborhood. On the occasional warm day (relative) they are sometimes seen in their more familiar habitat, the suburban neighborhood!
Our groundhog Phil has spoken and we are in for 6 more weeks of winter. Hmmm... that must starting in a week or so, after our 7-10 days of spring.

Margusity is predicting a "Big Daddy" snow for next weekend. He says a clipper will reform off the coast. Hmm . . . I'll bite. I am the eternal optimist. Never say winter is over on Feb. 2!! While we may be snow-deprived, we don't live in Florida!

Everyone that says don't give up hope yet...I agree with you all totally! I do remember a few times that we got unusually warm, then we got slammed with a few good storms. Of course , I'm only 16 so I only remember weather trends back to about 1999-2000 or so, but still, lol.
I've been watching the air pressure here in Lake Ridge bounce back and forth between 29.70 and 30.02 all day, up and down, up and down, up and down. What's up with that?
