Forecast: Rain to End and Splendid Weather Awaits
Our extended rain event will come to an end today and tonight leading to high pressure and drier weather for the remainder of the week. This weekend, however, we will see a cold front approach which may be accompanied by some unsettled weather. Let's hope the impact is minimal. The nice week/rainy weekend pattern is one us Washingtonians have seen many times before, especially during spring.
Cloudy, cool. Low 60s. Today will be a transition day. We will hold on to much of the cloud cover and easterly flow, but rain chances diminish greatly. Look for a 30% chance of some drizzle or light rain as the upper level low associated with Sunday and Monday's rain moves off to the southeast. Skies will be cloudy with highs in the lower 60s.
Overnight, clouds will remain, but it will be dry with mild overnight low temperatures in the low 50s.
TOMORROW
Some sun, dry. 70-75. Wednesday will be partly to mostly sunny and quite spring-like. Humidity will be evident, but not overwhelming, and high temperatures near perfect in the low 70s.
Overnight, there will be some clouds associated with a weak frontal passage, but no rain. Lows will only dip to the low 50s.

A LOOK AHEAD
Thursday and Friday , much like last week, look excellent, if not quite as warm. Look for abundant sunshine with highs both days in the mid 70s. Confidence: Medium-high
Saturday could start off promising, but an approaching front may be accompanied by some showers and thunderstorms (50%) in the afternoon and evening. Highs will be in the low to mid 70s. Confidence: Medium
Sunday looks like it could be quite salvageable with a chance of morning showers yielding to clearing skies and afternoon temperatures around 70. Confidence: Medium

Count me in on that celebration Camden! Although, allergies still bother me when there is like 1 speck of pollen per cubic meter (or however it's measured), it's great not having it snow yellow dust.
And YAY! for the fact that there is a 50% chance of a thunderstorm on Saturday :)

Back to jet stream and lightning data: The jet around here seems to be split, with a decent subtropical jet at 300 mb passing over south FL per 6Z GFS. We are between jets. There's some frequent lightning over parts of MO, part of a Midwestern belt of thunderstorms. her are also some isolated strikes as far north as Ontario and Quebec this morning.
Grassman, it's best to wait until we get good drying conditions, something which we haven't had since Saturday. Looks as though Thursday is a good day to mow the lawn(s).
Allergies are down somewhat, but I've had some coughing spells due mainly to the cigarette smokers at J.W. and Friends on Friday night. Alas, trying to ban smoking anywhere in Virginia is a losing propsition, due largely to the Southside tobacco lobby. Thanks to the "Dillon Rule" we in Northern Virginia can't ban smoking as easily in these establishments, since the legislators in Richmond won't authorize a local option on smoking bans for Northern Virginia. Given the chance I bet Arlington, Alexandria, and Falls Church would exercise a smoking ban option, and Fairfax and Loudoun Counties might just follow suit. It's mighty surprising and disappointing that we who wish to patronize bars and restaurants over the weekend have to have our lungs held hostage to a bunch of tobacco smokers simply because we're Virginians.

I didn't think the NWS was correct in calling for mostly cloudy conditions today. Time to go outside and enjoy this incorrect prediction.

Clouds have mixed out for most of DC and Maryland for the time being. Bright sunshine in Silver Spring.
