been hearing that this rainstorm is moving slowly - has the forecast for the game changed?

hoyanick-- Yes. The front now looks like it's going to slow down with higher rain chances. We're going to need to up rain chances a bit. Keep checking back.

Does this mean a dry(er) night than earlier forecasts - will we be able to PLAY soccer tomorrow morning ?

MDScot-- Since it looks like the rain we were expecting overnight now may stay to our southeast, you might have a decent window to play tomorrow morning.

Rain is on the way, but may be limited on the north and northwest side of D.C.

During the last few hrs. cloud movement from the se to nw has developed in my area vs an earlier sw to ne. Winds have shifted from north to east, and radar returns are popping over east Tenn. and sw Va.

I am expecting around .50" tonight, and early tomorrow.

Today was supposed to be a rainy day. What happens? A sunny and delightful day. I can understand missing a snowstorm when it goes fifty miles west and turns out to be rain but how did this happen?

No rain: Read our forecast. We did not call for rain today.

No rain:
It all depends on the whims of "Mother Nature".

The strength of the subtropical ridge offshore and the digging ridge from the ne, to the nw of us,is in control of the moisture feed. Depending on the position of the front, we are "high and dry", or wet. The front position is very important to the flow of moisture.

We simply don't have the intelligence with our "models" to predict this with accuracy. We often delude ourselves with our "high tech." capabilities but this is only a phantom comfort.

Mysteries beyond our understanding, exist both short term and long term.

The last pulse of the offshore ridge was strong enough to force moisture north, because RAIN is now beginning in the Central Shenandoah.

8 pm.: light rain, se breeze 5-10 mph, 55 degrees.

.05" rainfall during the past hour and picking up a little in intensity. Temp. has dropped to 49 degrees.

Bring it on!!!!

No Rain -- Just to expand on Jason's response, if you look back at our forecasts all the way back to Monday, you'll see we never called for more than the possibility of morning showers and a 50-50 chance of rain during the day today.
