Update: Scattered Thunderstorms Possible

[6:25 p.m. -- The northern half of the line of storms that were developing earlier fell apart. The southern part of line slowed down a bit and will drift from Fairfax County into southern PG and Charles Co in the next hour. Scattered showers and storms remain a possibility area-wide until midnight or so.]

A line of showers and thunderstorms has developed and will impact the metro area between 4:00 and 6:30 p.m. (from west to east, i.e. Loudoun to Anne Arundel/Calvert counties). Heavy downpours and briefly gusty winds are possible with these storms. An isolated severe storm is possible but most storms should remain below severe levels. After this initial line moves through, more intermittent/scattered showers are possible (50% chance) through 10 p.m.

Looking a bit ominous here in Gaithersburg.

What will temperatures do this evening? Stay mild or drop rapidly?

Posted by: JP | April 26, 2008 4:46 PM

JP: Behind any showers/storms, temps will drop into the upper 60s or so from current levels. Should be noticeable but not too dramatic

Looks like these t-storms are conveniently disappearing off the radar for Arlington.

Cloudy and cooling off in Silver Spring. No hint of rain at the moment.

D.C. is being dry slotted. Perhaps Monday??

Looks like somebody patched up the force field around DC after last week's storms.

The storm went TWO. MILES. NORTH. of me. UGH!

I was so ticked off. You couldn't hear ANYTHING here in the house, but when I went outside to take the trash out and looked north towards Fairfax, the sky was solid black and lit up every few seconds and there was a constant BOOM. But not even a drop here that I could see.

Like Augusta Jim said, maybe Monday.

We barely got a few drops over on Indian Head around 7:00pm this evening.

Mast is now wired, masthead light mounted, and mast back up. Current launch date is May 6, depending on weather....CWG dudes? Can ya help me out? ;-)

I second pvogel88. Here at Skyline , the heavens opened up. Looking at the radar, this was a true "popcorn" style storm. Probably no bigger than 2 sq. miles, it came from nowhere.

Still calm in Silver Spring. I'm awaiting the rain and thunder that the radar on the front page is indicating 10 miles west of me.

We are right in the middle of a cell here in Arnold, heavy rain, hail about dime size, and nasty lightening...haven't seen a storm like this here in a while...

It's been raining on and off (mostly on, mostly moderate to heavy) since about 8:30 pm here in the center of Herndon. My newly transplanted strawberrries are grateful, but I'm going to have to dump the excess out of the bucket of raspberry plants.

Just returned to Howard County from the eastern shore and drove through some very intense thunderstorms. Frequent lightning (some vivid cloud to ground strikes) along with torrential rainfall from Annapolis all the way up I-97 to Glen Burnie. A real PITA to drive in - especially at night. Interestingly, even with the very heavy weather, flights were still departing and landing at BWI. Must not have been very enjoyable for those passengers!

We finally had strong rain and some thunder, so we unplugged our computers and went to bed. Now it's once more calm, and the robins are singing.

Got about 1" in Harpers Ferry; still drizzling this morning at 8:00. NWS told me it'd be a tenth of an inch except in T-storms--well, the T-storms produced the tenth and the other nine-tenths was just rain, no electrical activity.
