Forecast: Sunshine Galore
By Brian Jackson
Fantastic weather is in the offing for the rest of this long weekend. We'll see more than our fair share of sun today and tomorrow with temperatures today in the mid to upper 70s, rising to the 80s for your Memorial Day cookout. Showers and thunderstorms return Tuesday afternoon/evening with temperatures remaining in the 80s before drying out again for another stretch of beautiful weather.
TODAY
Bright sunshine. Mid to upper 70s. An absolutely gorgeous day is in store for us with high pressure holding strong bringing sunny skies along with it. It will be a great day to get the yard ready for the Memorial Day barbecue, take in the Nationals game, or just be out and about. Highs will reach the mid to upper 70s with a light northwest wind.
Clear skies continue overnight, and temperatures will stay on the mild side. Overnight lows will hover in the mid 50s (near 50 cooler suburbs). Winds will be light and variable, turning southerly by morning.
Confidence: High
Keep reading for the forecast into early next week. See NatCast for the forecast for today's game at Nationals Park.
TOMORROW
Warm and sunny. Mid 80s.The unofficial start of summer will seem quite official tomorrow. Bright sun will quickly warm temperatures. Those of you attending or hosting barbecues won't have to worry about the weather. Get out and take advantage of temperatures in the mid 80s. We'll see a few stray clouds moving in towards evening with winds from the south around 10 mph
Overnight, clouds increase and there will be a 20% chance of a shower or an isolated thunderstorm towards morning. Expect partly to mostly cloudy skies with temperatures only dropping into the mid 60s.
Confidence: Medium-High
A LOOK AHEAD
Tuesday looks a little more active. We will stay warm with temperatures again in the lower 80s but skies will turn mostly cloudy. A cold front approaching will generate showers and thunderstorms (especially in the afternoon). Rainfall should be light, except in heavier thunderstorms which may drop a quick half inch. Confidence: Medium
The cold front stalls out to our south on Wednesday, keeping clouds and a slight chance for a morning shower in the forecast. Conditions will improve throughout the day with partly sunny skies by afternoon. Highs should be in the low 70s. Confidence: Medium
