Post Hunt Forecast: Rain Enters the Riddle

What: 2008 Post Hunt
Where: Penn Quarter
When: Today, Noon-5 p.m.

Looking for today's forecast? We've hidden it somewhere in downtown D.C. Good luck finding it.

Just kidding... But seriously, you should bring an umbrella along with that copy of the Washington Post Magazine to this rain-or-shine event. A fast-moving, energetic weather disturbance will produce lots of clouds and a strong chance of showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will hold in the mid 60s to near 70. Don't let the rain scare you away though, it should only last for an hour or two during the event.

Confidence: Medium-High

See our full forecast into early next week.

Saturday and Sunday indeed tricky with the strong trough in the east and hard to predict short waves rotating through us at various times. But "a piece of energy" gives me the image of a sawed off Eveready battery flying by at 15,000 feet. Do folks at the beach wait for that perfect piece of energy to hop on the surfboard . . if you're a surfer it's a good wave. Strong ripples in the atmosphere or an "energetic wave" I think might be better than a chunk of a battery flying by.

While I am on a rant (who wrote about that before) how about dropping "cold temperatures". . ."what the weather should be this time of year". . ."models say" . . along with a few others.

Temperature is the measure of heat. . .temperatures are high/low/rising/falling. . .the air is "cold", "warm". . "hot" etc. . .the weather is not "supposed to be" anything. . .it may be above or below some average. . the most unusual day is when the high and low are right at the climate averages. . .not what they are "supposed to be" and the last time I looked we were meteorologists or forecasters. . .not model readers. . .and they certainly don't talk . . .unless maybe a strange piece of energy falls on them.

Cheers,

Bob Ryan
