Tornado Watch Issued; Storms Approach

2:15 PM: A line of thunderstorms with frequent lightning is moving into the far western suburbs, now approaching western Frederick, Loudoun and Fauquier counties. This batch will move through the metro area from west to east over the next couple hours.
A Tornado Watch is in effect until 8 p.m., which means conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center says hail to 2 inches in diameter, thunderstorm wind gusts to 70 mph, and dangerous lightning are possible. The most likely timing for severe storms in the metro area is between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. -- although storms may continue after that time.

That radar loop is a few hours old on the home page - having the same issue with NWS site - may be on my end, though...there is a Tornado Warning in Tucker Co., WV right now with a large bow echo heading due east at 50 MPH thru the mountains now. If this holds together then the Shen.Valley and LoCo could be under the gun with a line that has a tornadic history in a few short hours.

Check out the NEXRAD link on wunderground.com. Their information is up to date and the radar "screen" is uncluttered by default. There is a serious bow echo heading for western VA and Washington county, MD.

It's a tornado warning now in Jefferson County. Strong rotation in t-storm near Inwood, W.Va. Moving E at 67 mph.

(Repost from earlier thread): Looking at an experimental NCEP Radar Simulation Model which, to me, has proven surprisingly accurate in the past, suggests that the line of strong to severe thunderstorms is likely to push through the immediate DC metro area between 4 and 5pm this afternoon.
