Photography: Air Force Memorial Lightning

A thunderstorm develops west of the Air Force Memorial Sunday Evening.

A quick storm chase Sunday evening produced one of my more interesting lightning photos. The above photo shows a developing, but short-lived thunderstorm that developed over eastern Fairfax County, west of the Air Force Memorial. The Air Force Memorial structure almost blends in with the lightning bolts. With this storm, I photographed about a dozen single and dual bolt strikes, but during the above photo, the storm produced a burst of impressive lightning all at the same instant. Keep reading for a Jefferson Memorial lightning photo and a rainbow photo taken in Fairfax during the same storm chase.

Also, see Jason's full forecast and NatCast and Ian's amazing photo shoot from Saturday's storms.
