Storm chances disappear starting tomorrow

Our forecasts for all but two of the past 14 days, including today, have carried a chance of showers or thunderstorms. That streak should finally come to an end starting tomorrow, at least for a few days -- a welcome interruption to the persistent disruption of outdoor activities. But first, we must deal with today's stormy potential.

Scattered a.m. showers and p.m. storms. Very humid. Upper 80s. A cold front coming from the west colliding with warm and very humid air already in place spells a chance for some scattered showers this morning, and probably a good number of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Some storms may contain damaging winds, heavy rain and dangerous lightning. Away from showers and storms, skies should be partly to mostly cloudy as temperatures reach highs in the upper 80s.

The chance of showers and storms continues tonight, mainly before midnight. Then, clearing skies and decreasing humidity toward morning with overnight lows in the upper 60s to near 70 in the suburbs, low-to-mid 70s downtown.

TOMORROW (THURSDAY)

Mostly sunny. Much less humid. Upper 80s. High temperatures won't change much -- in the upper 80s again -- but they'll feel a lot more comfortable than today thanks to much lower humidity. Add mostly sunny skies and you've got yourself a pretty darn good day for the second week of July. Overnight, mostly clear and comfy with lows in the low-to-mid 60s in the burbs, upper 60s downtown.
