Forecast: Storm Risk Sticks Around
The weather we experienced yesterday represents a pretty good indicator of what to expect the rest of the weekend: Partly to mostly cloudy skies, warm, humid air, and increasing shower and thunderstorm chances during the afternoon and evening. This kind of weather shouldn't entirely kill outdoor plans, but may well present frustrating interruptions.
Partly to mostly cloudy. Afternoon and evening showers and storms likely. 80-84. The morning to early afternoon hours shouldn't be all bad. A few areas could see some scattered showers, but many areas should remain dry albeit humid. By mid to late afternoon, the radar will likely start lighting up and most areas will get wet by mid evening. A few strong to severe storms could develop if we get enough sun during the day -- with the main threat gusty winds and torrential downpours.
Overnight, showers and storms will likely continue, with some locally heavy rain possible. Lows drop down to near 70.
Confidence: Medium-High

TOMORROW (SUNDAY)
Showers and t'storms again. 80-84. Sunday will pretty similar to Saturday, although it may be a bit cloudier and damper. While showers and storms are most likely in the afternoon and evening, there's at least a 50/50 chance of showers in the morning as well.
Overnight, showers and storms may continue through mid to late evening, with partly cloudy skies after midnight. Lows temperatures reach around 70.
A LOOK AHEAD
The stalled out front responsible for the weekend rain will have dissipated by Monday and Tuesday, leaving behind just a warm, humid airmass. So, showers and storms won't be as concentrated (without the presence of the front), but scattered afternoon and evening storms remain a 30-40% possibility. Highs both days will be 85-90. Confidence: Medium

No thunderstorms right now--just a bunch of crummy rain. Too bad it has to spoil the Fourth of July weekend!
Sterling and NCEP seem to expect this pattern to continue much of next week. There should be some variation but lack of a strong ridge will inhibit heat waves. Big issue is the continued humidity. Frankly I'd prefer temps in the eighties with dewpoints under 55. It's hard to get that type of weather around here in July.
Bertha continues to move westward. NHC's cone of probability seems to center over that stretch of empty ocean between Bermuda and the Antilles. By Thursday or so, Bertha could pose a definite threat to Bermuda, and, absent a sharp recurvature, a possible threat to the Outer Banks, but that seems speculative right now. Winds are about 45 kts. or 50 mph.

Jen -
Had you paid attention to the "doom and gloom" forecasting going on for today and you cancelled your plans you and your friends missed out an almost "nice stamp" day. Today was a blown forecast!

Steady rain here in Herndon - not a downpour, just a gardener's rain.
