Update: Storms Exit, Sun Enters
*Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 8 p.m. for metro area.*
Storms are now exiting the eastern suburbs and heading towards the Bay. The sun is slowly emerging throughout the area from the west to east. The rest of the afternoon should be partly sunny, with temperatures climbing back into the low to mid 80s. Another round of severe storms is not anticipated, although an isolated storm or two could still pop up.
The earlier storms produced multiple reports of hail, particularly north and west of the District. See the National Weather Service storm reports for more information.
Monitor any storminess using our Severe Tracking Station and comment with your storm reports. See our full forecast for the outlook into early next week.

Small hail and a serious wind driven rain here in Derwood on the south edge of this cell in Montgomery at 4:50 p.m.

That storm affecting Montgomery County developed right over top of Boyds. I could hear the thunder and see the storm but no rain for us.

As we got in our car at Van Ness, we saw what appeared to be a cloud on its way to being an anvil top. I had forgotten all about it by the time we arrived at home in Silver Spring.
When I heard thunder, I looked up and laughed. "Hey, remember that cloud we saw in DC? Here it is!" There was blue sky right overhead but a little to the north was that cloud, still growing in height above us and looking gray off to the north. Coming inside, yes, we are in the southern tip of the severe thunderstorm warning for eastern Montgomery County.
Now there is some heavy rain and thunder, and both front and back gutters obviously need to be cleaned and I obviously need to log off!

What in the heck is going on?! 2 days in a row now my email inbox is slammed with NWS email alerts for Severe T'storms, and yet nada! Is every thunderstorm now a sever one in there case? I don't recall just getting a typical summer thunderstorm anymore without NWS sounding the horn.

Here in western G'Burg /N Potomac this is another day of "dry" thunderstorms. Dark clouds, lightening sparking across the sky, booming thunder - but just a light sprinkle.
The grass is starting to look pretty tired around here.

I'm enjoying the nice green ground clutter on the Weather Underground map!
Anyway, had a brief downpour here in Sterling earlier this afternoon. Nice way to cool things down, although it was very humid after the storms exited stage right. (Or left...)

Never got a drop in NW Montgomery. This is the third time in a row that the famous split has happened where the rest of the are gets a deluge and we have gotten nothing.
I don't see the need for a watch until 8pm unless it is for the Eastern Shore.
