Hilary Duff: The New Lindsay?

We'll call this the 'before' picture. (Getty Images)

Is Hilary Duff gunning to be the Lindsay Lohan of 2007?

The newly-single Duffster (she recently split with Good Charlotte's Joel Madden, now linked with Nicole Richie) left quite an impression on fellow party people at hot Los Angeles night club Hyde (you may remember Hyde in relation to Paris, Tara and Lindsay) when she gave every appearance of acting like a drunk underage starlet (you may remember this behavior in relation to Paris, Tara and Lindsay).

One source tells Us Weekly Online:

"She [Duff] was pretty drunk and staggering around the bathroom, bumping into people and shrieking [about her gay friend]..."

Quite a contrast from last week's interview with the Houston Chronicle, when Duff said:

"When you're young, you don't always fit in, and you have all these unanswered questions. You have to remember your family loves you. Be smart about who you surround yourself with, and believe in yourself. There are so many possibilities in life."

Indeed.

For instance, the possibility that the usually in control Duff could end up like this if her wild night at Hyde heralds the start of a trend.

Duff's new album, "Dignity," is due in stores April 3. Ironic chuckles permissable now.

First!

I think the drive for publicity says it all.

I don't think its right to assume that Hilary is going to end up like the other starlets just because she got caught drunk once. Honestly can anyone say that they never got drunk while being underage? Now if Hilary starts showing up every night like the others then we may have something to talk about. I don't think it's right that these clubs are letting people underage drink just because they are celebrities though (don't clubs usually get shut down for that?...just my two cents...

I agree with sunpop. I really hope that Hillary has it more together than Lindsay. I can remember getting into clubs with a fake id but these are celebrities they are known figures? How are they getting in to these clubs? How come with all the recent publicity they aren't under fire more than the underage drinking celebrities?

It's a hazing ritual in Hollywood, you're not a starlet unless you have been drunk at Hyde. Well at least, she kept her underwear on and was not making out with a seedy guy from a wealthy family.

Oh the irony of an album titled "Dignity".......

Posted by: Bored @ work | January 30, 2007 11:54 AM

oooooo . . . please please please, Hill, become the next Lohan! now that Lohan's in rehab, she's no longer reliable (although who knew you could leave rehab so much?). I need more asinine behavior from you people.

Bring it!

I thought Duff's big thing was about being clean for the tweens?

Posted by: not bluto | January 30, 2007 12:08 PM

Nope, I don't think she's the next Lindsay. Lilo, just taking a break and focusing on rehab, Ha! She still has some working organs. I don't think she's been drunk at a public event yet (well nothing has been reported on that). She hasn't created an international incident due to drunkness. She's still got a lot of ground to cover.

Besides Hillary's mom seems to be a mom rather than her daughter's club going, strip loving buddy. This question is coming a little too soon.

Let's hope that this was a one-time thing for her, though not likely. Remember Hilary has an album coming out soon, she needs to get some publicity!

"Honestly can anyone say that they never got drunk while being underage?"

:raises hand:

In fact I didn't even have my first drink until my 23rd birthday. Never understood the appeal of being drunk.

Posted by: BF | January 30, 2007 2:01 PM

Yeah, I never got drunk while I was underage, either. I did have a drink before I turned 21, but it was in a country where I was over the legal drinking age. (And my reaction, basically, was,= "ew, that's what beer tastes like?")

Posted by: h3 | January 30, 2007 2:20 PM

Sorry didn't mean to generalize that everyone has drank before they were 21. I would think that most people have...I also went to a college that was considered a big party school in VA though haha.

Posted by: sunpop | January 30, 2007 2:29 PM

nooo! I was really hoping that Hillary would be able to keep from becoming just another pathetic teenage starlet. While I really don't think she's gone the way of Lindsay Lohan yet, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this one incident doesn't become a trend.

Honestly, I don't understand why people pretend that underage drinking is actually against the law. I mean, I know it is - but it has got to be the most societally accepted unlawful behavior EVER. And the least likely to be faithfully prosecuted. I remember when I was in high school, every year the boys' soccer team would come in completely hungover the day after the state championships. And all the teachers/faculty had this sort of "oh, bless their hearts, they're just celebrating" kind of attitude. At the time, I was doing a bit of "celebrating" myself so I didn't really think about it...but now, it just makes me roll my eyes. Rethink the drinking age already, people, or at least make more of an effort to enforce the law. Yeesh.

Oops, back to celebrities...I have great faith in Lindsay that she will come back from rehab on top...and by on top, I mean ready to show this upstart Duff how to really party.

I agree with not bluto.

I thought there was a thing earlier where people (I think it was Lindsay Lohan?) were bashing her for being too goody goody?

Posted by: not that innocent? | January 30, 2007 2:53 PM

I agree that one drunken incident does not a drunken LiLo-wannabe make.
Although, combine the drunkenness with the weight loss, the dark hair, getting dumped by your guy for Nicole Richie...
Could be a fantastic start to 2007!

Let me get this straight, the Bush twins try to indulge in a little underage drinking -- please note they were never drunk -- and the manager at the restaurant insists they be arrested. Meanwhile, Lindsay Lohan can get drunk and the club serves her with no questions ask. Guess it all depends on the personal view of the manager whether the cops are called or not.

Remember when Angelina had that scary hair and was married to Billy Bob Thornton? Something had to come take her place....
As for underage drinking, if you are 18, can get married and go to war, I think you should be able to drink. That said, I would strongly caution my kids about binge drinking, which is what these starlets do(think Paris Hilton and her vodka) whether they are 21 or not. That is what really bothers me. It seems as if they are taking medicine, trying to get wasted as fast as possible.

"[Underage drinking]...has got to be the most societally accepted unlawful behavior EVER."

I disagree. I would put it in second place, behind speeding. Tell me the last time you actually saw someone doing 55 (or less) on the Beltway. Rush hour doesn't count.

Now put the two together and when one of these idiot "girls" gets killed or paralyzed...or kills someone else...then maybe people will stop turning a blind eye.

Hilary's a lush and probably a dope head. Some people use their time of celebrity usefully and others don't. She's a forgettable loser.

Posted by: Miss Clean | January 30, 2007 4:49 PM

She can not be like Lindsay! cuz if she will i will hate her!

Posted by: Jennifer | February 8, 2007 9:53 AM

i feel that she is a sweet girl and fame can get to anyone. the hair was dyed for a movie. and her album title has nothing to do with it. i mean why assume things and start rumors...like LL's song. i mean magazines give them soo much pressure.
the weight loss her choice. and i feel that if someone can go to war why not drink. but limits and sruff like that.
i feel that people need to stop bashing celebs. they are doing there best. they are PEOPLE TOO.
