Comment Box: Britney's Promise, Sanjaya's Future
Any idea of the cred of the rehab facility Britney was in? I think it's called Promises? She leaves after 26 days -- usual stint is 30 or 45. -- Submitted to last week's Celebritology Live chat
Promises has been in business for 18 years and the facility's Web site boasts that celebrities, grandparents and heads of state looking to get clean have all chosen them for treatment. And, in fact, previous alums include Charlie Sheen and Ben Affleck. While I can't seem to find any mention about length of stay on the site, prospective clients can peruse a Web gallery featuring pix of the oceanfront property, activities like horseback riding and orchid blossoms placed serenely on beds. The facility reportedly runs $1,600 a night and most clients stay a minimum of 30 days.
Maybe Tom Cruise should check himself into rehab, the celeb fashion of the moment. Oh, wait. Do Scientoloweirds allow rehab? -- Cappy
Speaking of rehab... Yes, Cappy, Scientologists do allow rehab and actually claim to have rescued scores of addicts with the L. Ron Hubbard-inspired Narconon substance abuse program. The program -- which relies heavily on vitamin and mineral supplements in conjunction with more traditional methods -- is not without attendant controversy, though, as detailed here.
Any indications how big an impact the Vote for the Worst followers are having with Sanjaya? When they gave a bottom two last night [Wednesday] instead of bottom three, I wondered if it was to keep from letting on that someone else would have rounded out a bottom three.
Although I'm not a regular "American Idol" watcher (please see the incomparable Lisa de Moraes for all things "Idol") I am tracking the progress of Sanjaya Malakar who, thus far, has defied elimination despite repeated battering from the judges (for both his singing and his hair) and comparisons to the tone-challenged William Hung.
Why is Sanjaya still in the running? Democracy in action, it would seem. Both Vote for the Worst and Howard Stern have asked voters to vote Sanjaya and, according to one blogger, Indian call centers may also be doing their part to keep Malakar -- who is half Bengali -- on the show.
Comment of the Week
A big thanks to reader Lisa1 for bringing us all back to reality:
"If it is true that Katie spent $200,000 in a single visit to Barney's, then she should definitely lose the credit cards. Spending up to $25,000 in a day is okay, but over that is a bit much." -- Lisa1

though Lisa1's comment is funny, US Weekly said $200K in a YEAR, not in one visit.

Oh yeah, if each idolette were a Ford car, Sanjaya would be a Ford Festiva.

Sundance would have been a Ford Econoline conversion van, aka the "Club Wagon."

Backupsingerlady - Ford Escort
Lakisha - Ford Crown Victoria
Blake - Ford Escape
Nosferatu - Ford Taurus
Chris (shavey head) - Ford Contour
Chris (curly head) - Ford Windstar
Gina - F150

Who is Nosferatu?
Posted by: | March 26, 2007 1:28 PM
Michael Jackson should retain Sanjaya as a combination Nanny and Cabin Boy, if you get my drift.

everytime I see Gina on stage I reenact the speed dating scene from 40 year old virgin for my girlfriend. The one where he meets the biker chic who hasn't been with a man in 10 years, and her name is Gina, pronounced J-eye-na

And we at uberdesi.com have another post telling everyone why call centers cannot be voting. Funny that you did not read it. Here is the link for your perusal.

aha you must not read TV Column... Nosferatu is Phil Stacey.

not a (Ford) mustang in the bunch, if you as me which you didn't but I'm just sayin'...
Posted by: methinks | March 26, 2007 2:58 PM
uh, if you "ASK" me...not if you "as" me, which sounds like it could be painful.

I can't think of a single Ford that I dislike more than the Mustang -- It falls into that whole IROC-Z-mullet-sporting category. I really don't hate an idolette enough to be a Ford Mustang. Not even that otherbackupsinger guy.

Liz, try to track down the "House of Sanyaya" clip from The Soup this weekend. It's worth the effort.

Not Bluto - you forgot Haley!

not bluto,
i used to feel as you do until i got all warm and nostalgic over a to-mah-to soup red mustang, sans spoiler. maybe it's because of an age difference??
i don't think of mullets when i think mustang...i think keith urbanleaving skinny nicole kidman and sweeping me off my office chair.
i think it's time for cocktails...

I don't know what's worse: Mustang-owning, aging, wannabe Corvette owners or actual aging Corvette owners.
[PS. Haley would be the Mercury Sable, aka "premium" Ford Taurus. Kinda like, if you put frosting on a turd, or whatever that saying is.]

Thanks for the Scientology take on rehab, Liz. :-) Don't think vitamins would help their star Tommy-boy, though, as I was referring to rehab for his other "issues" (control freakishness, etc.) I don't believe he has a substance problem, he's just plain odd.

PR 101 lesson #1: Anyone who's anyone's been in rehab.
