"Angelina Jolie expected to pick up Vietnamese son in a few weeks..."

Was he on backorder?

Posted by: BF | March 13, 2007 8:17 AM

Thank you for Gerry news! Boy, those female interviewers went ga-ga over him on Good Day LA yesterday. Rarely have a seen professionals embarass themselves over a guest like that. But who can blame them?

An Escape from New York re-make? I don't really like that idea... I think Gerry should do a smarter movie. I hope he will do Watchmen wth Zack Snyder.

Do you see him as Dr. Manhattan or the Night Owl? Rorshasch would be interesting, but then he'd be wearing that pesky mask the whole time.

The Oprah Winfrey-Minchin Seminary for Young Ladies.

- I thought Laila Ali was already married. The Wedding was profiled in Instyle Magazine Celebrity Weddings.

- I would like to have late night dates with Jude Law so I say "Go for it, Lindsay."

-I like Jennifer Hudson, but the last thing that girl needs is a free whopper pass from Burger King.

I wonder if the drastically reduced inheritance had anything to do with Tori getting back with her mom.

If Madonna does move to Manhattan, will the British accent(I use that very lightly) come along or will she have to pick up a new one?

Hahahhhhhhhhhahhhhhaa, Snoop was arrested on suspicion of drug use. Suspicion of drug use,oh my sides hurt.

Lisa, Laila did marry former manager Johnny "Yahya" McClain in 1999, but the two were divorced in 2005:

No mask! Please! Maybe Escape from NY will be the biggest possible paycheck and Gerry and his team think that is the best way to go, and I take no issue with that. I won't get excited about that movie, however- I want to see him in a Robert Redford kind of movie, to show off what a smart, intense actor Gerry is.

Liz, do your reading on Gerry if you haven't already. He is this soulful, sweet, charming fun-loving guy - and he is excellent to his fans. Keep an eye out for us, will you, for the luckiest woman on the planet who gets to date him next...we want to know all!

"Angelina Jolie expected to pick up Vietnamese son in a few weeks..."

Did she pick up a model off the lot or order one custom made? How much is the tax/license/dealer prep?

Posted by: SoMD | March 13, 2007 9:17 AM

If Pam & Tom come out as "officially" reunited by the end of March I win the office remarriage pool!

Posted by: KiKi | March 13, 2007 9:25 AM

I certainly hope that group "debunks" Rosie and her idiot trapeze.
The worst was the celeb who railed against vaccinations, but Madonna solving our problem of nuclear waste was a hoot!!
Celeb egos are incredible!

We're looking into international adoption and there are all sorts of rules (by country or adoption agency) about not having so many little children at home at one time when requesting an adoption, not adopting out of birth order, and not adopting within a certain time frame from a recent birth or other adoption. Some countries don't adopt to single women or those with more than one divorce, etc.

I don't know all of Angelina's circumstances, but I know I wouldn't have been able to adopt like she has. I don't know whether to applaud her or query why she gets so many special favors when I've met great people who were turned away for small reasons (like being overweight or for taking anti-anxiety meds).

Anyway, why is Jude slumming with LiLo??!?

Posted by: NoVA | March 13, 2007 9:58 AM

I agree with NoVA on both counts actually, but especially regarding int'l adoption. I know a few people who've adopted overseas (Russia, Romania and China) and the process took months and in one case years. If Jolie wants to make a difference in these children's lives, maybe she should work to make the adoption process easier for regular folk instead of picking her children like most people pick out a pair of shoes.

Posted by: dym | March 13, 2007 10:17 AM

I agree w/ NoVA and dym. I'm guessing some/many palms have been greased by Ms Jolie in order for these adoptions to go ahead so quickly.

"Why is Jude slumming with Lilo?"
1) Free p @#$% (you guessed it)
2) Pretty free p@#$%

Posted by: | March 13, 2007 11:01 AM

I'm confused. Wasn't Jolie's adoption turned down or had problems because she is unmarried?

Why all of the sudden has it been fast-tracked? Great ... another case of special rules for whacko celebrities.

And what about all the AMERICAN kids that need homes and end up being pushed around to foster homes until they're 18? Charity should start at home.

Posted by: Ugh. | March 13, 2007 1:34 PM

The people whining about Oprah's free school are a little silly. Rules are rules, if you don't like it, pull your kid out, but you'd be doing them a disservice. However, if the school is not free, then I take it all back.

Also, I hate the "why not American kids" argument. It just doesn't make sense. People can choose whatever charities and causes they want. Why criticize when she at least seems to care about a world bigger than herself? At least she GIVES to charities and helps orphaned children, of whatever nationality.

And finally, do we know these adoptions were fast-tracked? Maybe they have been pending for a long time and the press just now got wind of it. We shouldn't assume we know everything!

I just noticed this:

Eric Carmen? It must be a slow news day when Eric "All By Myself" Carmen (formerly of the Raspberries) makes it into the news.

I think LiLo and Jude are a great match. They are both disasters!

Posted by: Barb | March 13, 2007 2:06 PM

Am I the only one bothered by Regis Philbin announcing his bypass surgery on "Regis & Kelly"? My uncle had the same procedure last year and he didn't feel the need to make a public announcement and he works in television. Any concerns he had discussed with his family and doctor. Even David Letterman's surgery was handled classier than Regis.

I'm not a fan of Regis and Kelly, or Regis and that god-awful woman before Kelly, maybe that why I find the whole" I having passby surgery" news alert a little distasteful.
I don't get the pop-culture significance of Regis

Posted by: Lisa | March 13, 2007 2:11 PM

Dear Lisa: So glad you asked! Just take a moment to think about it and all becomes clear! The significance of Regis is...
Well, it's obviously because...
I mean, of course, one would think...

Okay. I don't know either.

Posted by: | March 13, 2007 2:40 PM

Sigh: I agree with you completely.

Posted by: not the only one | March 13, 2007 2:41 PM

Ironic that with all the hoo-ha about anorexic celebrities, when we FINALLY get one (an Oscar winner, no less) who is a real woman with a real body, someone makes a crack about her not needing any more Whoppers. Unbelievable.

Posted by: Sigh | March 13, 2007 3:36 PM

The previous post was made by a different "sigh" than posted earlier ... sorry, didn't realize that moniker was taken ... :-)

Posted by: Sigh the Second | March 13, 2007 3:37 PM

Sigh, I'm guessing these adoptions were fast-tracked because a local agency is telling us it will take 15-18 months after they receive a completed dossier for Vietnam before getting approval to go there (and it generally takes 2-6 months to complete the dossier which includes getting approval from the U.S., getting new fingerprints, getting updated homestudy, getting a new dr's approval, etc. A lot of these components expire within a year, so she would have to start over each time.)

Then when you do travel to Vietnam, expect to stay there for three weeks.

Given that each country has its own waiting period and that you generally can only enter into plans for one country at a time and for one baby (or sibling group), Angelina getting some kind of special treatment seems a logical guess, especially since ABCnews.com says she filed papers in early March 2007 (!). And she announced plans to adopt an Indian child just last October.

Now, there is some fast tracking for everyone who adopts an "older" child, but this is really, really fast. In fact, the agency we're looking at has temporarily suspended the Vietnam program because they do not need new applicants currently. I don't know if that is the Angelina effect or not.

Posted by: NoVA | March 13, 2007 3:49 PM

Is there a maximum number of children one person can adopt before it crosses over from being genuinely helpful for the children to being unhealthy for the children with too many in the family/not enough attention from the parents, not to mention an obvious sign of genuine psychological problems in the adult? Collecting a soccer team's worth of children isn't healthy for either the children or the parents.

Posted by: wondering | March 13, 2007 5:32 PM

Less of a moniker, more of a reaction - open to everyone of course. If the adoption was fast-tracked it's definitely suspect, I would say. Things go faster with parental consents I know, rather than finding a match. I don't know much about foreign adoption, I was really just being snide to the poster talking about charity being more virtuous in America! I just try not to assume that celeb news is always true as reported, no offense Liz! You are eminently trustworty of course. The Post knows all..

Posted by: Sigh | March 13, 2007 9:21 PM

I think Angelina Jolie's decision to adopt a child is compassionate and courageous. Even if she has gotten special treatment from the Vietnamese adoption program, that still does not take away from the goodness of the act itself. There is no indication that she is unable to take care of another child, and in fact there is evidence that she is a particularly caring mother. The fact that she is changing a child's life for the better is what matters. Perhaps in the future she will donate her time and energy toward simplifying the adoption process for everyone. Or perhaps she will dedicate herself to any number of humanitarian issues. For now, I think that we should be inspired by the good that she has done and not condemn her for the good that she has yet to do.
