Comments Box: Celeb Swag, Chen's Moon Man and Dermot McDermott?
Do you think you could post a link somewhere on your blog with a list of celebrity related gift ideas, as they come up? I know you've mentioned some other books in the past... I have a friend who's b-day is in December, and I'd love to get her something like this, and it would be hugely helpful to assemble all the suggestions in one place. -- Posted to The Art of the Courtroom Sketch
Thanks for writing. I ran a month-long series of posts during the 2006 holiday season detailing just the sort of celebrity-related tchotchkes you have in mind. You'll find plenty of bizarro stuff to choose from -- dolls designed by Marie Osmond, celeb-centric books and the low down on veritable bouquet of celebrity perfumes.
If your friend is more of a collector, though, you might want to go back and check out posts on artists like 14 and Kate Kretz or have a look at this post, a guide to celeb souvenir hunting.
Finally, if your friend falls into the "emulator" category, several online mags and retailers (Celebrity Style Guide, Lucky, Kitson) specialize in helping wannabe's crib the latest starlet styles.
This is probably the most publicity Dermot Mulroney has ever gotten in his entire life. Mostly because people have him confused with other second-tier male leads of similar age and stature. -- Submitted to last week's Celebritology Live chat
Just to follow up on this thread from last week's live discussion, fametracker took note of the confusion caused by the similarity (in name, looks and career trajectory) between Dylan McDermott and Dermot Mulroney in the eminently readable Battle of the Probably Quite Affordable Name-Alike Leading Men. Here's a taste of the uncanny parallels detailed therein:
"There are romcoms where they play the guy the girl is supposed to end up with, like 'Til There Was You and The Wedding Date, as well as romcoms where they play the guy the girl isn't supposed to end up with, like Three To Tango and Must Love Dogs, and we have to say, that last category is the one that's really got to sting. Imagine getting a part in a major studio picture only to learn you're playing Impediment Guy to the likes of Matthew Perry or John Cusack? It must take a lot of really hot showers to rinse off that residue."
Okay -- I doubt anyone else cares but since I love the Early Show (CBS) I have to ask the following. I learned this year that Julie Chen is married to Les Moonves. I just think that is so -- well -- odd. She works for him since he runs CBS. He is criticized a lot, too. Isn't that weird for her? I am a huge fan of the show and the three hosts and can't figure out how she balances being married to the boss. I just dated and then married a co-worker. Even that was tough at times! -- Submitted to last week's Celebritology Live chat
You know how it goes: one minute it's an innocent happy hour flirtation and the next thing you know you're stealing kisses in the copy room. At least we can imagine that's how it went for Chen and Moonves, who married in December 2004. Although Chen has been with CBS since the late 1990s, rumors of a romance between she and Moonves didn't surface until 2000. The two reportedly wanted to marry earlier, but Moonves first had to extricate himself from his 24-year marriage to first wife Nancy. Is it weird for her? If job security is weird, I guess it is.

Was I the only one who thought "Suge Knight? I thought he was dead, like Tupac" when they read the Chat Alert?
Anyone? Or are you just afraid to admit it?

Nice Shout-out to FameTracker.com, Liz. Used to be one of my favoritest sites in the world until it went on indefinite hiatus -- right about the time of the Bravo/NBC-Universal acquisition of TelevisionWithoutPity.com. I think they shared a lot of the same writers, so that may explain why FameTracker had to shut down to new content. Oh well, just another reason to mourn the corporatization of TVWOP.

Agreed, VoR. I loved fametracker, too, and wish they'd return.

I always get Lisa Ling and Julie Chen confused. When I read the article, I first thought "Don't you mean Lisa Ling?" Wasn't Lisa Ling also engaged to a network executive before calling it off?

The Suge Knight chat has been "delayed." Presumably for a parole violation or a fresh felony charge.

Does anyone remember that Dermot Mulroney was Dirty Steve in Young Guns I? Co-starring the brothers Sheen-Estevez, Keifer Sutherland, and Diamond Lou Philips (it just sounds better that way, like a Vegas gambler with two six-guns on his hip).
Dirty Steve was the sage that asked the burning eternal question that must occur to everyone after consuming large amounts of a brew containing peyote and horse kaka, "Did you see the size of that chicken?".
I've never confused him with Shelby's redneck lawyer husband Jackson after that.

By the way, it appears that Dermot Mulroney is from Alexandria and went to TC Williams, according to IMDb. Liz, could there be an interview possibility with Dirty Steve?

Liz - say it ain't so - I just saw that Rosie might be a possible replacement for Bob Barker on the 'Price is Right'?!?!
Is there truth to this?

I will always be able to tell those two apart primarily because Dermott Mulroney played the one part that completely vexed me in all movies. How could Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz both be even remotely attracted to him in "My Best Friend's Wedding." A self-centered jerk who is a total slob and refuses to compromise at all and is going to drag you around the country to things you don't care about, sounds like a real catch there ladies.

I read the online chat from last week and someone mentioned that Kyle MacLaughlin (sp?), who was sometimes confused with Dermot McDermott, was kinda sleazy so I had to add that he was in Showgirls, which ups his sleaze factor exponentially.

This is a terrible joke, but some one has to say it: Rosie as host for "Price is Right" would give a new meaning to the phrase:"Come on Down!"
Also just read Julia Roberts had her baby. Man, that poor girl was ready to pop! Good going, Julia!
