Britney: Just a Gum Blonde

A portrait of Spears made of chewed bubble gum titled 'Gum Blonde XLVIII' by artist Jason Kronenwald is shown at left. (Reuters)
We've called Britney Spears many things here in the blog -- "bat guano," "nutty," "loopy"... even "bald" -- but "art world phenom" is an unexpected addition to her unintentional resume. One that adds a certain thoughtful irony to the sideshow of a life that Spears has managed to eke out over the last year or so.
That sideshow (each chapter more gruesome and twisted than the last!) is chronicled in the new gallery show "Just Britney," an understated title that speaks volumes about our obsession with this girlie-woman gone wild. From demure teen mag cover shots to earnest paintings of what Celebritologists term "the bald phase" to a self-portrait of the latest Brit spin-off sensation Chris Crocker, it is all here in Technicolor horribleness.
The show, now viewable at the Hollywood World of Wonder storefront, features 30 works inspired by Spears. While diehard fans might delight in this syrupy rendition of a doe-eyed Spears clutching a (butterfly? flower?), the psychopaths among us would probably be more inclined to fork over the cash for the bloody-mouthed zombie Brit or the possibly NSFW tiki Brit, complete with short shorts and Mouseketeer cap.
A quick scan of Flickr is enough to make your correspondent sorry she wasn't in attendance at the show opening fete, which featured themed drinks ("Cheeto-tini," anyone?), a stylish crowd, the ubiquitous Perez Hilton and everyone's favorite nutty over-confident D-lister, Vincent Gallo.
All of the pieces are available for purchase, reports E!'s Marc Malkin. Sadly, no online shopping option exists.

"Chewed Bubble Gum." If that isn't a metaphor for Britney, I don't know what is.

OK -- I am reading this right, yes? "Gum Blonde 48"? That means there's 47 other chewed pieces in this series?

That "portrait" of Chris Cocker is just disturbing. He has future stalker written all over his pale bird chested body.

TMZ is reporting Britney's lost her kids...which, while not surprising, and probably best for the littluns, is still sad.

Darn H3, you beat me to it. You know, at least K-fed keeps his underwear on in public, and as far as we know doesn't do drugs in front of the kids, be drunk around them, not strap them into their car seats, etc. At this point, sad as it is, that makes him the more fit parent. Some grandparent needs to step in and sue for custody. But not Brit's mom. Look at how Brit turned out.

This is pretty cool, but what do you do with it once you buy it? Doesn't seem suitable to be hung anywhere besides a gallery.
