K-Fed: Dad of the Year in Five Easy Steps
Or: How to Succeed at Parenting Without Really Trying
Listen up, Alec Baldwin. You may be an Oscar and Emmy-nominated successful working actor with a hit NBC show, but you ain't no K-Fed.
As dutifully reported in yesterday's Morning Mix, one Kevin Federline was cited (along with Anna Nicole Smith baby daddy Larry Birkhead) as Dad of the Year in Details magazine's list of 2007 Power Players. How did a 29-year-old with a resume shorter than Hervé Villechaize top Ryan Seacrest and Harry Potter as an "influential" simply due to his parenting skills?
First, listen to K-Fed's thoughts on parenting:
Then, in five easy steps, we break down the K-Fed Path to Parental Domination:
1. K-Fed's Johnny Appleseed-esque parenting strategy was hatched before his Spears spawn, Sean Preston and Jayden James, were even a glimmer in his "Chaotic" eye. By fathering four children (two with ex Shar Jackson) K-Fed shrewdly went for quantity, not quality. Like playing more than one Bingo card, this strategy allows for multiple chances to outperform the other parent.
2. When Spears left K-Fed last fall, his floundering foray into the rap game and reports of his desperate financial situation provided plenty of ammo for some sound skewering. But, long-gamer that he is, K-Fed knew that derision is only a PR spin away from pity and that seediness can be easily repolished into seemly simplicity.
3. Although lyrics like "As I march through the valley of the shadow of death/Dark hair on my chest/Wife on my left" lead one to believe that Federline is an utter nincompoop, he has matured into a master of subtlety over the past 12 months; his silence in the face of Britney's continued meltdowns has spoken volumes.
4. While Spears has continually crippled her chances for winning a custody battle, Kev has lawyered up well, largely reined in his clubbing and given Spears (and her partying, red-light-running ways) no quarter. Not having a job is an asset here, allowing unimpeded concentration on the case.
5. PopoZao to Papa Wow! Though a professional wrestling bout and guest spots on "One Tree Hill" and "CSI" do not a career make, K-Fed's reinvention of himself as Mr. Mom may well brighten his future prospects. Could Federline be a Gen Y Dr. Spock? Solid!
To boil this down to a laminate-able pocket-sized credo: Make sure your baby mamma is bat-guano crazy, sit back and watch the praise roll in.

Er, "...a resume shorter, etc...."

I think part of Kev's appeal is that he is in on his own joke. He knows that no one is going to take him seriously, so he plays the fool to the hilt without being one. Either that or he has the smartest managers ever. The AMEX commercial was, IMO, a brilliant coup all around.

there's a lot to be said for getting good lawyers/advisors and the LISTENING TO THEM!!
also, i agree w/erics, i think k-fed is not the smartest energy saving bulb in the pack, but he's not as dim as that same energy saving bulb either. and though he spouts the 'they make me realize how small i am and how big they are' cliche, at least he knows the cliche! at least he's aware that he's not supposed to be the focus of all the attention, the kids are.

Chris Rock had a routine years ago where he talks about how people expect reward for doing what they are already supposed to do, such as staying out of jail or being a good father. This is a perfect example of that. You're a good father, great, what do you want...a cookie? Come on, compared to Britney, the Marque de Sade would be a better parent.

(snort!)

Larry Birkhead is on this list as well. What the ....... That man hasn't stopped pimping his daughter since he got her.

Britney might not be as good as the Marque but I think even she might be better than the Marquis de Sade.
I agree w/methinks, at least Kevin has been smart/shrewd enough to actually listen to the advice he's received. Meanwhile Brit not only doesn't listen she seems to go out of her way to do the exact opposite of whatever advice she's received.

Doing what he is told still doesn't make him father of the year.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 29, 2007 11:42 AM
look, we all know k-fed's not really the father of the year. that honor belongs to my father. but it's all relative. are you going to give it to alec baldwin who called his daughter a disgusting pig? are you going to name joe simpson who apparently believes his daughter's body is his ticket to the good life?
remember where you are, friend. this is celebritology-land. the fatherhood bar isn't set quite as high as in the real world.

so why not colin farrell?

I think part of the issue is that we (celeb watchers, the media etc.) all just assumed he was a bad father so the fact that he isn't shocks people so much that they want to elevate him for it.
But hasn't Shar Jackson always said he was a good father and their two kids were always include in K-Fed/Spears events, so I'm assuming he really isn't doing anything differently now.

So the fact that KFed is capable of following directions has made him father of the year or somethin'?
If I put together my kitchen table by following the directions, does that make me Carpenter of the Year?

this is what I'm sayin' y'all.

You said ----K-Fed's Johnny Appleseed-esque parenting strategy was hatched before his Spears spawn, Sean Preston and Jayden James, were even a glimmer in his "Chaotic" eye. By fathering four children (two with ex Shar Jackson) K-Fed shrewdly went for quantity, not quality
That sounds like you are saying Shar's kid's are not quality. Either your english or your mentality needs to improve.
I think K-Fed came out on top, because the threshhold was set so low. Great for lowered expectations. George Bush has worked that angle.
The other part of that, people assumed Britney was this paradigm of virtue sullied by K-Fed. That has proven not to be the case. I remember Rosie O'Donnell proclaiming that she was going to return to greatest upon divorcing the man. Hmmm that seamed not to be the case. Who knew he was keeping her from going fully nuts. But that is a lesson to stop assuming you know celebrities. You do not know them just because you buy their album or watch their show.
Lastly, I want to be unemployed like this man. For the millions of people unemployed or underemployed--living paycheck to paycheck, making 10K an appearance would be life saving. Having 7 millions dollars in the bank, including property and valuables would be hitting the lotto. This man had both
Three years ago he was this obscure back up dancer, today he is making commercials and financially independent.

paradigm of virtue...teehee.
maybe "paragon" was what you were going for. however a paradigm of virtue wouldn't be a bad thing either! though a bit further reaching than a paragon.

The guy is utterly dumb, untalented and unqualified for his job. I nominate him for Ambassador to Iraq.

methinks -- don't forget Mr. Lohan!

As long as KFed's not 1) frequenting porn shops, 2) stealing from porn shops, and/or 3) showing up half a day late for work, I guess he looks pretty good by comparison.
(Where are Britney's parents and sister? Can't someone get through to her? She's a mess.)
Give KFed a break. He'll be apologizing for marrying Britney for years -- at least until the youngest kid is 18 -- without needing our help. I feel bad for him.
If your ex lives the high life (and isn't willing to live a less expensive lifestyle), you have to be able to afford the high-rent district at some level just so your kids can see (their deluded) mom.
Since Britney's not going to move to a cabin anytime soon, I'm all for Kevin's having spousal support because if he moved to Boise somehow he'd become the bad dad for taking kids away from mom. He seems to be making the best of it. Leave him be.
And that Chris Rock bit is a classic (as one commenter above posted). My wife and I say, "that's what you're SUPPOSED TO DO" all the time. Parenting? Don't seek praise, just do it! IT'S YOUR JOB. Sheesh.

Layla -- I am not in the least dismissing Shar's kids as not "quality." In fact, I think they've probably got a much better chance at happiness and a normal life than his children with Brit.
The joke there was the fact that K-Fed has produced four children in almost as many years.

Reading Details Power Player list, I can't really tell if they are being facetious or trying to be serious. The founder of Facebook, OK, but K-Fed and Larry Birkhead? At least K-Fed isn't pimping his kids on the cover of People magazine for money...at least not yet.

K-Fed..
Father of the Year?
..HAHAHAHAHA.
I think not.

The Christmas wish gods seem to be toying with us. In Touch has published on its website pictures of the text conversation they say they had with JR Totem, in which he confirms the rumors of his impending fatherhood, then asserts that he doesn't know if she's going to keep it because "she's unpredictable."
So, who else is willing to give up one or more pony wishes to try to nip this one in the bud? Alternatively we could get Superman to fly around the world counterclockwise and turn back time.
