Top TV Crushes of 2007

I'm a more knowledgeable person after spending the last couple of hours tabulating your TV crushes. I'm not sure all this knowledge is worth having, but just in case, I pass it along to you anyway:

-- There are a lot of TV characters.
-- For every TV character there is some shmo (or shmo-ette) somewhere on a couch crushing on that character. We nominated over 130 different characters.
-- You think I kid? There are at least two more of you out there (in addition to me) thinking dirty thoughts about "Flight of the Conchords's" Jemaine and, then, of course the anonymous poster who copped to crushing on Brian, the animated dog from "Family Guy." Yes, animated. Yes, dog.
-- You are very serious about your TV crushes. Even typically sarcastic commenters (you know who you are) adopted a serious, get-down-to-business tone to talk about their attraction to Kristin Chenoweth and Kiefer Sutherland.
-- There are many more women here than men. Or, as one commenter put it, way more people sharing crushes on men.

Which characters gathered the most love? Click below to find out which male and female characters you named your top TV crushes of 2007...

Male Character: Jim Halpert, "The Office" (John Krasinski)

(NBC)

Giving renewed hope to cubicle jockeys from the Dulles corridor to Silicon Valley, Krasinski's Jim narrowly edged "Lost's" Sayid (Naveen Andrews) to take top honors. "Chuck's" Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi), "House's" Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) and "Pushing Daisies's" Ned (Lee Pace) rounded out the top five.

Said commenter AK of Jim: "The way he looks at Pam is the way every woman dreams of being looked at."

Really?

Female Character: Liz Lemon, "30 Rock" (Tina Fey)

(NBC)

Proving that the Maxim editors who named her TV's Least Appealing Lady last year are dum-dum heads, Fey's "30 Rock" character Liz Lemon was first in the hearts of Celebritology readers (who are discerning, smart and always right) attracted to the fairer sex. Kristen Bell was next in line -- mentioned for her roles both in "Heroes" and "Veronica Mars," followed by "Friday Night Lights's" Tami Taylor (Connie Britton), "Pushing Daisies's" Olive Snook (Kristin Chenoweth) and "Chuck's" Ellie Bartowski (Sarah Lancaster).

Why Fey's embattled TV writer? Said commenter Rock: "[Lemon is] the smartest, most beautiful messed up person on TV."

I get that.

One note: The number of readers submitting female characters was maybe one in every 10 comments, so Fey's win isn't exactly a Gore-sized mandate.

I think the main reason so many like Jim is that he's Islamic... oh wait... this is the WaPo right? yeah... ok... yeah - he's Islamic... ;)

I read through every post, and only two people, including myself, listed the Denny Ducette character from Grey's. Unbelievable!!!

Friday's list was very informative. I had never heard of Flight of the Conchords, now its in my Netflix queue, must be very popular because there's a long wait list. So thanks for enlightening me.

Becuase of your poll, and results, I am a better educated woman.

If by "Gore-sized mandate," you mean large and definitive, then, not to split hairs (or infinitives), even Al Gore's 2004 mandate wasn't exactly Gore-sized. However, if you mean "by a few votes here and there that don't exactly fit into the prescribed tabulation system that's served the country pretty well through its electoral history," then, I'd say, yes, Fey's win was indeed a Gore-like, if not -sized, mandate.

And gven all that, Maxim still was right. Fey? Feh.

Were the 130 different characters all from 2007 or did many of us make the same mistake? I for instance nominated Doug Ross because no crush list for me would be complete without him. Obviously I paid no attention to the rules.

I can't believe someone, probably Liz but if she was smart she made Mr. Liz help, had to sift through all those posts & find a winner &/or count them all!!

Did no one have a crush on Sandra Oh? I've never seen Grey's Anatomy, but I've been told by several people (that don't know each other) that I remind them of Sandra Oh in that show. I have no clue what she's like, but I assume she's more snarky/angry than kind rainbow-princess. Haha.

Liz, you say "animated" and "dog" like those are bad things.

Posted by: Snarky Squirrel | December 3, 2007 1:27 PM

To be fair, Brian has a lovely singing voice.

Posted by: DB | December 3, 2007 1:48 PM

And yeah, Liz Lemon and Olive Snook would top my list this year.

Wait, you mean this poll wasn't really about people crushed by TVs in 2007?

Well, I am so glad to hear that! Cuz I saw Tina Fey just the other day (we both get our nails done on Thursdays at this really cute little place, over on Sepulveda) and she didn't look at all like a TV fell on her. I mean, she didn't look great or anything, but she doesn't have all that much going for her to begin with, and I did suggest that maybe she should have her brows waxed, and that was apparently the wrong thing to say because she called me this bad word that rhymes with itch, but she was probably just kiddin', you know how Tina likes to kid. Anyway, I mean, apart from the thing with her brows, y'know, her head wasn't flat, like when the anvil falls on the coyote's head, and so I'm glad, because I couldn't possibly go back to that cute little nail shop over on Sepulveda, knowing that a sweet girl like her had a TV fall on her, y'know?

Liz, I think your readership might also be decidedly un-Washington. Not a single entry from The West Wing? And NO ONE has a crush on Robert McAllister on Brothers and Sisters? Say what??

Posted by: A political animal | December 3, 2007 1:53 PM

political animal...the list is a 2007 TV Crush list. West Wing is looonnnnggg gone. And so should Bros. & Sisses be. Awful show. Awful.

I'm a girl, but if someone is comparing you to Sandra Oh, I'd take it as a compliment. She is a sarcastic goody-too shoes with a tough exterior but a good heart and she's cute.

Ooohhhh, Charlie Crews on "Life" and/or Damian Lewis. It's the red hair. But I do appreciate the readers of this blog for being quite sophisticated in their choices. Seemingly intelligent/non-traditional hotties. Not a Josh Duhmel or "Desparate Housewife" in the bunch.

Posted by: naif | December 3, 2007 2:45 PM

What happened to McDreamy? I don't recognize any characters on that list.

Posted by: Anonymous | December 3, 2007 2:49 PM

Make that three for Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords. I'm so embarassed. If it redeems me at all, I also have a crush on Bret.

Posted by: LLL | December 3, 2007 4:32 PM

I like Jim Halpert/John Krakowski, too, but we must give some love to Tim Canterbury/Martin Freeman, the character and Brit who had the role on the British version of The Office. Even Ricky Gervais and Steve Merchant have their charms.

Posted by: BBFL | December 3, 2007 4:43 PM

Liz, clearly your male audience is rather old if they have a crush on Olive (Kristin Chenoweth) from "Pushing Daisies" over Chuck (Anna Friel) from "Pushing Daisies". Kristin Chenoweth was hot -- 10 years ago. Look at the lines on her face now!!

On the other hand, Anna Friel is currently hot.

Nerd guys with cable must not read this chat much, or there would be lots of props for Kari Byron, the chick Mythbuster.
