"Ex-Scientologist says Katie Holmes auditioned for role in Tom Cruise's life" <-- this is the funniest thing I have seen in a good while.
Posted by: TdoubleB | March 10, 2008 7:49 AM
The Katie Holmes item is creepy, but not at all surprising. I wouldn't doubt its veracity one bit. I could never see Jennifer Garner with Tom Cruise.
Posted by: surlychick | March 10, 2008 7:51 AM
Filling out a top is the best and most sensible reason there is to get implants. I should apologize to Kelly for making fun of her decision.
If the news turns out to be true congrats to Djimon and Kimora. Althought I'm still a little sad that he's taken.
All this time I thought Katie was lured into her current role with pots, pans, combs and what not. Who knew she went willingly? I wonder if there's an audition tape floating around.

Perhaps Ms. Beckham could invest in a pair of platform sneakers?
Posted by: CentrevilleMom | March 10, 2008 8:52 AM
I sure wish The Smoking Gun could post a copy of that business contract Katie signed with Tommy! THAT would be some creepy entertainment for sure. But, uh, so far it doesn't look like her career is taking the trajectory that Nicole's did while she was under contract to Cruise....

I don't understand the comment that Harry Potter "fetishizes" boarding school...
Is she saying that boarding school is bad and should not be viewed with respect?
Posted by: sunnydaze | March 10, 2008 8:55 AM
Or that boarding schools are kinky?
Or NOT kinky, but Harry Potter portrays them as involving witches and magic. Which, if inaccurate, might be hugely disappointing for unsuspecting prospective students?

Re: Juliette Lewis
You would think that there would be some requirement to exhibit some kind of fashion sense if one is attending a fashion show. Fashion police - if not here, then where - if not now, then when?
Posted by: sunnydaze | March 10, 2008 9:02 AM
First - I admit, I'm not a Kimora Lee Simmons fan. But congratulations to her and Djimon Honsou. That is gonna be one gorgeous baby.
Per "fetishizing" boarding school? A have a British friend who spent a few years in one. He used to laugh a bit about how Harry Potter made it all sound so lovely, warm and cozy. His experience was nothing like that at all.

jaybbub,
Didn't you see Mad Money? Any second now the Oscar worthy roles are going to start pouring in. Yup.... any second now.......
Posted by: petal | March 10, 2008 9:04 AM
But, uh, so far it doesn't look like her career is taking the trajectory that Nicole's did while she was under contract to Cruise....
Considering some of the roles Nicole has taken since divorcing Tiny Tom, I'm beginning to wonder about this whole Scientology thing...though like jaybub said, it hasn't helped Kat(i)e.

I give credit to Scarlett Johansson for bolting when she realized the "audition" was at a Scientology center. I knew the girl was smart. Ditto Jennifer Garner and Jessica Alba.

If Sanjaya's gone from AI to bat & bar mitzvahs, is the next logical step for him to perform (at) a bris?

Re: the Katie Holme's audition.
I thought that's exactly what they said when Tommy and Katie first got together. She went in for an audition for a Tom Cruise movie with Tommy Dearest and came out of the audition completely smitten. That Scientology is rumored to be behind the audition is a uber creepy but somehow not surprising. I would have run away screaming too (go Scarlett!)

I suppose Lilo speaks from volumes of experience. Somehow I doubt her sis has to be told. Who wants to end up like Mizz Lohan? All money aside, that has to be a miserably empty life.
Posted by: EricS | March 10, 2008 9:46 AM
The Cruise/Holmes audition story has been floating around for awhile. Much juicier is the rumor that she was already pregnant when they met and the marriage is a double cover.
Just sayin'.

Oh dear, Tilda Swinton is another Oscar winner who thinks that because she has the gold statue for her role in a movie the rest of the world wants to hear what she has everything. Stick to acting (and get some fashion tips so you know how to dress appropriately for events).
Folks, always update your will after a major life event so you don't have to count on your family to "do the right thing."
Posted by: ep | March 10, 2008 9:48 AM
I forgot.
How can Lisa Marie Presley sue the tabloid for printing the truth? She is not a private figure so the standard is MUCH higher to prove invasion of privacy.
Posted by: ep | March 10, 2008 9:49 AM
I've been pondering Tilda Swinton's statement since I read it a couple of hours ago. I've gotten a little work done but every now and then I wonder,'WTF did she mean by that?' Then I remembered the dress she wore to the Oscars (heck, her general appearance at the Oscars) and I think she has a lot of 'splainin' to do.
Posted by: methinks | March 10, 2008 9:52 AM
"...Tommy Dearest..."
Wonderfully ironical, PGM. One of the best nicks I've heard yet.

Aw shucks, thanks MisterBear. :)

I am with you methinks - I keep wondering how the HP books/movies are really any more "fetishizing" than say Dead Poets Society or Rushmore, or even the Little Princess for instance....or High School Musical (or Grease!) for regular day schools, or even Heathers or the Breakfast Club. The comment just makes no sense - is it a British thing? I get it that boarding school is not "all warm and cozy" and I think most folks, kids too, understand that magic is not real...this is really bugging me!
Posted by: sunnydaze | March 10, 2008 10:18 AM
Lisa Marie could have just waited it out and her 'weight gain' would have explained itself.
I'm sure her litigious self just wants to sue to get back at them.
Of course, she could get back at them also by living a low profile life.
Posted by: jlr | March 10, 2008 10:27 AM
It sounds like Tilda Swinton had a bad time in boarding school, threfore no one should ever make a movie that shows boarding school in a good light. I'm sure there are good and bad sides and boarding school just isn't right for some people, but if your only option is continuing to live with the Dursleys, a Soviet style gulag might be pretty good! I think TS has forgotten that it's not a documentary.
Posted by: tl | March 10, 2008 10:38 AM
uhm, The Harry Potter books/movies are fictional. Can someone clue in Tilda to this? The thought that someone wants to go to boarding school because of the Harry Potter movies/books is just wacky.
Posted by: no_bs_4me | March 10, 2008 12:05 PM
I definitely heard that TomKat rumor at least two years ago, complete with the Jennifer Garner and Scarlett Johannson details. It sounds plausible, but I won't believe it until there's some confirmation from one of the other auditionees.
I think some boarding schools can be "warm and cozy" experiences. JK Rowling has certainly said that she based Hogwarts on her own boarding school experience, so there must be something there worth fetishizing.
Posted by: julia | March 10, 2008 12:06 PM
I think Juliette Lewis' tights burned my retinas.
Posted by: hangin in herndon | March 10, 2008 12:15 PM
To a degree, Swinton is right. British private schools can be horrible here in the real world--physically uncomfortable, snobby, homophobic, and a lot of kids prematurely kicked out of the nest. But for Harry, it sure beat being locked in the closet under the stairs. Rowling took care to make Hogwarts seem as unlike the places Swinton has in mind as possible. Ever notice the emphasis she puts on delicious food, for instance?
Posted by: JanetK | March 10, 2008 12:16 PM
Let's see.....at Hogwarts ghosts pop outta toilets, paintings talk & move, the staircases rearrange themselves like a bad Escher painting, there's all kinds of horrible creatures living in the nether regions of the school.
If those are your fetishes, you've got bigger problems than most.
Posted by: Horribly Sick @ home | March 10, 2008 12:21 PM
OK, let me get this straight, Tilda Swinton doesn't believe in Harry Potter because of the way it fetishizes boarding schools, not because it's fantasy? I guess that's why she chose to do the Chronicles of Narnia, because although there's fantasy, the children are not in boarding school. That makes perfect sense.
Posted by: Huh? | March 10, 2008 1:12 PM
OOOh good point about the Chronicles of Narnia. The new one begins with Lucy, Edmond and a cousin at the train station waiting to go to boarding school. But they are transported to Narnia instead, so I guess that is okay.

Is it boarding school or the British Navy that is supposed to have "buggery and the lash"? I can never remember.
Juliette's footless tights and mini skirt remind me of an outfit I had in 1986.
Posted by: possum | March 10, 2008 2:03 PM
-Base on her past fashion statements, who would invite Juilette Lewis to a runway show? and based on her Oscar dress, Tilda Swinton would had dated Valmont at boarding school
-Oh great Josh Hartnett is free and I'm not.
-Kelly Rowland is an idiot.
Posted by: Lisa1 | March 10, 2008 2:09 PM
When I first read about Kelly Rowlands reasoning for getting implants, I thought how stupid, until I realized that I'm wanting a reduction for basically the same reason, except there's also the back pain, and the painful shoulder indentation from my bra straps and of course trying to find bras that fit...ok, well maybe its not the same.
Posted by: Anonymous | March 10, 2008 2:47 PM
possum, "The only traditions of the Royal Navy are rum, sodomy and the lash." It's been attributed to Churchill, but supposedly an assistant, Anthony Montague-Brown, actually said it.
Posted by: byoolin | March 10, 2008 3:55 PM
I bought People magazine on Saturday and have spent a great deal of time since then trying to figure out why we're supposed to be interested in Kelly Rowland at all.
I don't know why, but I'm also a little surprised that Juliette Lewis is, like, around. I didn't think she died or anything, but I just figured she'd gone peacefully from the spotlight.
Posted by: QuiteAFilly | March 10, 2008 4:21 PM
Juliette Lewis is ugly. Brad Pitt must have been blind. And she's so strange. And desperate for any attention at all. So sad.
Tilda is pretty much from the same mold. Or moldy. Scarey--both of them.

"Oh dear, Tilda Swinton is another Oscar winner who thinks that because she has the gold statue for her role in a movie the rest of the world wants to hear what she has everything. Stick to acting (and get some fashion tips so you know how to dress appropriately for events)."
But what she actually said was, "I'm loath to say anything good about going to boarding school, which is one of the reasons why I'm not a believer in 'Harry Potter.' Because I believe it fetishizes boarding school for children."
Say it in a British accent.
Has anyone read even the interview? It sounds like she was answering a question about her years in boarding school. And, no, she doesn't mean that she believes in wizards, she's talking about believing in the message and the phenomenom of Harry Potter because all these kids are so excited about going to boarding school because of the movies/books but it was not a great experience for her or most others. Also, someone posed the question to her, it wasn't like she just got up on a soapbox and started spewing stuff. It was an INTERVIEW in which she ANSWERED QUESTIONS. It ridiculous when people think celebs should shut their mouths but usually their just having a conversation with someone (yes, a conversation with an interviewer, but still) and 99% of the conversation gets cut and now people are all up in arms about some snippet of what she says. And she's getting the interview because she just won an OSCAR and yes, people are interested in her and want to know about her life (hence, the question about boarding school and her thoughts). Again, it's not like she was like, "oh look at my Oscar let's now use it as a microphone." If you don't like what she says, just don't listen to it.

I don't care whether anyone ASKED TS about her life or whether she volunteered, but her comment sounds like sour grapes to me. So she had a bad boarding school experience..
Firstly, GET OVER IT. You're what.. 40? There are people who have to clean cars and people's bathrooms so that they can eat when they're 8.. So freaking get over it already. Or go visit Sub-saharan Africa. That might give you some perspective. Stupid British entitlement.
Secondly, just because HER boarding school was bad, anyone who writes about them should be avoided? Jeez.. get some therapy lady!
It's funny that actors think that when they win oscars they can somehow start revealing how stupid they are. They don't have to pretend to be "smart" actors because they have an oscar already.

Interesting that the Scientology article says it was looking for women in their 20s and includes Sofia Milos in that. She hasn't seen her 20s in a quite a few years. Otherwise, I wouldn't put it past Tom Cruise.

Yes, you sound like just the type of person who, while having a conversation with someone is all roses and rainbows. Talk about getting over it!
