Brenda Dickson: Welcome to Her Nightmare

Brenda Dickson has advice on just about everything. (YouTube)

Never having watched "The Young and the Restless," I can't say I was familiar with Brenda Dickson's work until the video linked below found its way to my inbox yesterday afternoon. Perhaps because Dickson in effect disappeared from the entertainment world after being fired from "The Young and the Restless" in 1988. Though, as evidenced by these pix, she is still making the Hollywood rounds -- or, rather, the bizarro world Hollywood that is populated by Fabio and "American Idol" rejects.

The video is neither new -- it was produced, directed and written by Dickson in 1987 -- or new to the Internet. Mr. Liz happened upon it while perusing Dan Savage's blog. But what it is is a study in the egomaniacal tendencies that afflict several who dare to call themselves celebrities. More akin to Elizabeth Berkley than Elizabeth Taylor, Dickson's video is nascent reality TV served up for the Betamax. How many copies of this gem sold we'll never know. But we will remain eternally thankful to one MandyKimper, who found and posted this important piece of the celebri-historical record on YouTube.

I had considered sharing a list of 10 life lessons from Dickson's video ("Snake and jeans are a great look. Just add a belt and you're ready to go," "If you have a weight problem, try to cut down what you're eating" or the inscrutable "style is as important in your life as your look."). But the 18 minutes of footage (there are two parts) stand up for themselves -- if you can last that long.

If you made it through "Welcome to My Home" and you're finding yourself wanting more Brenda Dickson style entertainment, watch this NSFW "Welcome to My Home" parody ("It's a fashion face. A face full of fashion.") or visit the real Dickson's campy Web site, complete with this more recent audio slideshow in which Dickson talks about her new career as a red carpet fixture who often makes "national publicity."

Snake and jeans? Huh?

Also, if one has a snake on, would it make pleated pants more acceptable?

That is JUST. SO. SAD.
I'm going outside to plant some flowers. Maybe that will cheer me up.

I've seen this before. She is insane. I think they showed the video on either The Daily Show or The Soup a while back.

She never would have come to this ignominious end if she hadn't slept with Jack. Shame on you, Jill Abbott!

I've been wondering what would happen to Project Runway now that it is moving from Bravo to Lifetime. Should Tim Gunn actually demand a salary (he claims to be paid a pittance for his appearance on the show) from the Brothers Weinstein, he may be replaced by Brenda Dickson. Brenda is custom made for Lifetime.

It was on The Soup last year- but the parody by Jackie Clarke and Julie Klausner is just amazing (and there's at least three different segments!). Brenda's website is fantastic. Talk about delusional.

Curse you, employer's blasted internet filtering software! Can't you see that this is (the Help Desk's and HR's opinions notwithstanding) *important*?

Planting flowers really helped. I'll never visit that sad website again.

Very weird website. Why isn't this chick making a commercial for a fat-free butter-like breakfast spread?

WOW! That rant about the HI Family Court system is nutty. I wonder how much is true?

And several of those photos with people who are actually famous look like they might be photoshopped.

Delusional really doesn't cover it.

I miss my c.1995 GeoCities webpage.

Brenda Dickson appeared opposite William Shatner and Gordon Jump. That's rarified air, there.

I'm just too distraught over the passing of Martha Stewart's dog, Paw Paw (#2 story on CNN's Entertainment Page!) to give Brenda Dickson any further consideration.

Posted by: MoCoSnarky | April 16, 2008 5:13 PM

I lasted 1:28 minutes into part one. My eyes, they burn!

The sad thing is she was actually really good on Y&R. I remember when she was replaced and it was like "wha?". Still can't accept the "new" Jill Abbott after 20 years! I miss the old Jack Abbott as well. Sigh.

That was...surreal. Wow...just...wow.

And, might I add, Brenda Dickson is now OUR nightmare.

(I don't remember her at all, but I watched General Hospital.)
