Giuliani's Direct Talk
There was much coverage of Rudy Giuliani's speech Friday at Houston Baptist University outlining his contrarian -- for Republicans -- views of gay rights, gun control, and abortion. Newspaper and TV reports give us the essential bits.
But now, thanks to YouTube, we can hear the source ourselves. Here's Giuliani's speech, put online by his campaign.
* At 10:20, he begins to talk about "areas of disagreement."
* At 11:10, he talks about gay rights.
* At 13:00, it's guns and crime control.
* At 18:25, abortion.

So you know the word contrarian applies almost exclusively to investing, right?

In response to the person below (dictionary), the word contrarian does not specifically apply only to investing. The definition is: a person who takes a contrary position or attitude. Then it shows an example and uses it specifically in the context of investing. Learn2correctpeople.

Check out Ron Paul, a republican congressman from TX, if you're serious about voting for a better future. You won't be disappointed.

The store down the street won't sell condoms for religious reasons. I believe in God, but this seems downright bizarre.
My parents got divorced before I even knew what a gay was.
No health care here either.
Can't afford the gas, welcome to use alternatives, but there are none of those either.
I believe my government can be doing a better job.
Tired of the flag waving and like the idea of direct talk. Just wish it was for topics that really meant something.

These social issues belong on a back burner. Admit everyone has an equal right to everything, get the government to quit handing out subsidies to all the big corporations that give them money, spend more time actually spreading REAL democracy, and Please keep your religion out of American politics.

this guilliani old guy is one of the worst phony and opportunist who used 9/11 as a jumping board to get enough exposure but also used his influences to get all the crumbled steels from the twin towers, sold and shipped to china through his company. he's also an adulterer divorced his longtime wife and married to his secretary. a certified phony and imposter now trying to become the president. spare us.

I guess some credit must be given to Giuliani for siding with very un-RepuliCON issues. Fact is, these are not the pressing issues that average Americans care about. The deadly Iraq Occupation (the war "ended" May 1, 2003!), health care, ballooning gas prices and loss of decent jobs are the real issues RIGHT NOW.
Let's remember "America's Mayor" was about the least favorite politician in New York on September 10, 2001. Furthermore, Giuliani's perceived take-charge, pull-together demeanor after 9/11 is what any halfway decent mayor should be doing after a crisis. That's part of the job.
One thing's for certain about the GOP these days: They're consistent. Consistent in their hypocrisy. Consistent in fostering the dregs of American politics.

Lot of substantive commentary here, ey? Bunch of real intellectuals.

Hey Jaimi, why don't you do what I do? Buy some health insurance. I'm 46 years old and it costs 1800/yr. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

The former ny mayor is clearly a liberal republican who should be running as a democrat ticket, not the republican.

i don't remember the occupatrion ending on may first 2003. i went looking too and i found a speech by president bush. he said this:
"We have difficult work to do in Iraq. ...The transition from dictatorship to democracy will take time, but it is worth every effort. Our coalition will stay until our work is done."
i remember the ba'athist regime being defeated before may first. i may be confused, but then, how do you 'splain this?

the socialcons have gotten unbearably boorish.
ten years ago when christians talked about their feelings of marginalization, it rang as true to me. and most people i think.
now whenever i hear from them, it's a bunch of nonsence about how non-eveangelicals axiomaticly can't be conservatives. they really have gotten swollen heads. they've adopted a maoist set of behaviors. i fear that even if they cause a catostophic loss of the election, they'd only interpret as an occasion for deeper myopia and disengagement from the mainstream.
i'd really like it if there was some way to skim off the single-issue absolutists and let them join fred phelps in the democrat party while retaining the sensible and thoughtful christians i love and respect as friends and political allies.

or they can peel off into their own faction like the john birch, alex jones, lew rockwell nuts who have lined up behind ron paul have.

Will someone send this little mean man some duck tape! He apparently thinks if democrats think he is so liberal, he will get their votes. I think the people hav had a good solid lesson from the lieing calculating, corrupt lessons taught by our Republican ennemies. If you will take note, Rudy does not touch on the important issues of the day, Iraq and his foreign policy opinions. GIVE THIS RUNT A GOOD CORNER IN NYC AND PUT HIM BACK ON A BEAT as a street cop. he never made it as a mayor! WHAT A JOKE - PRES.

Love Rudy for 9/11 issues. If I'm dead I don't care about any of the social issues. The states should handle all those issues.

"corrupt lessons taught by our Republican ennemies."
Well it's clear to see where the dems draw the line in the sand. Won't fight terrorist, will fight fellow Americans.
Good call!

I'm 47 and have no health coverage. It sucks.
I guess health coverage is only for the wealthy. I guess shipping jobs overseas
is going to continue.. DAMN.
