Giuliani Hits MoveOn, MoveOn Whacks Back

The Ad War between Republicans and MoveOn.org continues today, with Rudy Giuliani airing a radio ad, stating the group is targeting him because he can beat next year's Democratic nominee. In response, MoveOn is taking its anti-Giuliani ad national.

Let's review this Ad War so far:

-- MoveOn runs a full-page ad in the New York Times on Sept. 10, calling Gen. David Petraeus "General Betray Us."
-- Republican lawmakers repeatedly criticize and attack the group during Petraeus' testimony to House and Senate committees.
-- Rudy Giuliani's campaign buys a full-page ad in the New York Times denouncing MoveOn, and produces a video attacking the group that also ties Hillary Clinton to the group.
-- John McCain says MoveOn should be "thrown out of the country."
-- Fred Thompson also denounces the group.
-- Pro-war group Freedom's Watch airs an ad denouncing MoveOn.
-- In response, MoveOn begins a "George Bush: Betrayal of Trust" campaign, with ads targeting President Bush, and Giuliani.

Giuliani's new radio ad calls MoveOn "the most powerful left-wing group in the country," and states that the group is targeting Giuliani because, "he's their worst nightmare. They know Rudy is a Republican who can beat the Democrats."

Now MoveOn will start airing the anti-Giuliani ad on CNN nationwide, beyond its original airings in Iowa.

So who's winning this Ad War? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.

Rudy better be careful here! He is assuming that he is the darling of the right and that the neocons are going to come to his rescue when all the knives he still have floating in the air begin to drop.

I doubt Rudy wants to spend his money on this kind of fight given that he really doesn't have a plan of his own as to what to do with the Iraq war.

This whole ad campaign can only hope to help Rudy. MoveOn is despised by Republicans and even without Rudy's counter-ads, they will attract Republican supporters to the Rudy cause. A Rudy Giuliani presidency would be best for our country, so I would like to thanks MoveOn for their kind help in pursuing this goal. Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!

The Republicans and Rudy are now where they should be, this ad campaign against MoveOn will be good for our country.

The internet is the only way the people of this nation will hear the truth. MoveOn represents the Majority. It's Hammer Time!!!

Clean House MoveOn the people will back you!!!!
Show the world that this is a democratic country.

With so much mainstream media censoring, it is wonderful to see MoveOn have an opposing view of the current neo-cons in power. We don't need any more puppets following the current regime.

Posted by: timefortruth | September 18, 2007 5:58 PM

Bravo MoveOn! They have taken up a fight that's been all but abandoned by the "democratically controlled" Congress. Giuliani is not challenging the facts as MoveOn has presented them. He's only saying "look at what a good Republican I am because I'm so hated by "the left"". That hardly boosts his qualifications to become the next President. I doubt that the voting public will be fooled again by another Rovian shell game that aims to hide the facts and obfuscate the truth behind a curtain of blustery "patriotism". As long as MoveOn continues to present only documented and verifiable facts, their targets will be forced into debates that they can't win, as Giuliani is now.

Just today I've given more money to MoveOn.org because I hope and believe our group will work to get the truth out. I'm proud of MoveOn and will do all I can to help the organization. We need MoveOn to fight back and give voice to a view that the main stream media is not putting forth. This Vet stands tall and along side MoveOn!

Mitt's got the answers. Fred is too old and doesn't know what his positions are. John is too old and has all the wrong ideas. Rudy is not a conservative.

This is not a fight that Rudy can win. With all the people that he has made mad over 9/11 and his decisions to profit from that day will come back to haunt him.

Posted by: Mike | September 18, 2007 8:27 PM

Rudy can huff and puff about MoveOn.org, but he's grasping at straws. If you look at the electoral college, in which 270 votes win the presidency, it seems clear that the Democratic ticket will carry the West Coast, a broad path across the Midwest, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and most of the rest of New England. Respect for the GOP has hit rock bottom in the large-population states, giving Republicans virtually zero chance to win the White House in November 2008.

If I were someone who has pictures of me dressed and made up in drag, I would have brains enough to not start an ad war with anyone, and especially with MoveOn.Org. I think Giuliani's entire life has been full of lapses in behavior. To start a fight with anyone seems stupid to me. His judgmental attitude makes me more and more aware of his lack of a right to criticize anyone!!!!

Posted by: Mari | September 18, 2007 9:45 PM

Well the polls are out and that Petraeus pig's hasn't been able to move public sentiment one inch. I'd say moveon.org won this round. I love see republicans with their impotent rage, but moveon.org is as popular if not more than ever. I just donated another $100 to them.

I am so nauseated by the never ending video diarrhea that the Republican party has squirted at all of us that I am ashamed of my government. How pip-squeaks like Ghouliani and Ginghrich--heros of legends in their own minds--can be other than loathed and despised is beyond me. I am aghast that McCain can grandstand his senility by supporting the ongoing torture and slaughter of innocents that is the dominant outcome of "our" attempt to grab Iraq's oil--he a former victim (?) Aren't there any Republicans of character left to begin the reformation or elimination of the party? Ghouliani certainly is one of MY worst nightmares . . . if that unspeakable fake somehow became president it would more than likely shorten what little is left of my life, one way or another. I saw his kind back in the forties and fifties but the level of public credulity was less and the lying and pre-Rovian character assassination was less sophisticated. The voters prevented serious harm to the state (TN) or country. I never thot I would live to see my country dying at the hands of unchallenged devil-in-drag traitors.

These republicans need to burn in hell for the trick bag they put our country into...

Posted by: Michael Hazzard | September 19, 2007 5:35 AM

I'm glad to see that the republicans can now see that attacking military people is wrong. Where were they when the swift boat folks reared their ugly heads? Why isn't the media pointing out the hypocricy. Nice to see the post give a nice spot on the rudy add, but not the move on answer. Oh well, politics as usual.

Posted by: Michael Yetter | September 19, 2007 6:20 AM

This is a good move for Giuliani. Polls are clearly showing that he fares the best against Clinton in a head-head match up.

His ad helps emphasize to the base of the party that Electablility is a key issue in these primary elections.

The traditional conservative does not have a chance nationally given the mood of the country in these elections, and Giuliani is not going to win over any conservatives with his social views. He must convince conservatives that he alone can prevent a Clinton presidency, and moderates that he can continue to lead and manage successfully as his prior history proves.

Posted by: Paul S. | September 19, 2007 9:33 AM

Giuliani lost every chance he had of getting a Dem to vote for him when he mis-represented and attacked MoveOn's plea for the general to tell the truth to the country --and to address the Massive Gaps that exist between his report, and all independent findings on Iraq....

And then he screwed up more when, after mis representing it, and casting it as an attack -- he tried to tie Clinton to it... What a Bozo....

* Repression of free speech

* Don't question Authority... particularly if we dress it up in a military uniform --even if contradicts all evidence and logic... believe our lie, not your own eyes... We'll do the thinking for you, and our propaganda machine --Fox News-- will tell you what it is.

* As NeoCons...*We got absolutely nothing of value to offer the world --we're just here to steal and create global fascism-- so lets try to keep public attention focused on this Non Issue, and off our repeated failures, undeniable hypocrisy and deceit and ongoing criminal charges and investigations

Gay marriage, flag burning and the attack on Christmas.... thats why you guys need to think about.... forget everything but that

I'm phoning in ANOTHER donation to MoveOn after I hit send on this.... NeoCons are like Cockroaches.... they can't stand the light of truth....

NeoCons best hope now is to just steal the election (again) with fraudulent voter machines -manufactured by friends of theirs, that are "too complicated" to hook a printer up to... so no paper trail.

PLEASE: WRITE YOUR REPRESENTATIVE --NO VOTING MACHINES WITHOUT A PAPER TRAIL.

I want to add my voice to the 3 million Moveon members who say THANK GOODNESS for MoveOn.org and their guts to stand up for reality. SUPPORT OUR TROOPS by TELLING the TRUTH and BRINGING THEM HOME! Enough fancy footwork around the truth, no one ever doubted, from the time of his appointment to the job, that Petraeus' September report was going to say, "The 'surge' is working but we need more time!" the General's ONLY JOB was to come up with some numbers to support that assertion and even at that, he had a tough time coming up with even the WEAK justification that he did. Cherry picking the numbers, statistical obfuscation, even a 9-year old could see through that. Is that really enough of a "disguise" to cover up this disgusting excuse for war? SUPPORT MOVEON! They stand for the TRUTH!
