Obama Criticizes Former Lawmaker in New Ad
Barack Obama is airing yet another TV ad in Pennsylvania. This one goes after a former congressman to remind voters that Obama casts himself as a Washington "outsider."
In the ad, Obama refers to a provision in the 2003 Medicare Modernization Act: "Medicare could not negotiate with drug companies."
"The chairman of the committee who pushed the law through went to work for the pharmaceutical industry making $2 million a year. Imagine that. That's an example of the same old game playing in Washington," Obama says.
Obama's referring to former Rep. Billy Tauzin (R-La.), who left Congress in 2005 to become President and CEO of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, which is the second-largest purchaser of lobbying services, according to a recent Washington Post report, and CQ MoneyLine.
