A Toe-Tingling 'Heroes'
How bored is Claire "The Cheerleader" Benet in her new California home? At the end of last night's "Heroes," she cut off her own little toe just to see if it would grow back. (It did, FYI).
Talk about too much time on your hands (or, in this case, feet).
But besides the mind-numbing suburban hell that the Benets seem to be going through (Dad's about to kill someone at his copy store job), there were actually some revelations in the second episode of the slowly-evolving season.
Hiro, still stuck in 1671 Japan, may just be his own hero judging from how he handled those mean ol' Samurais and saved the girl. But then again the real Kensei, whom we assumed to be a stereotypical drunken Englishman, does seem to have that whole self-healing power going on.
Revelation #2: Peter, still stuck in Ireland, now appears to be freakin' Superman! Did you see how he morphed out of those ropey handcuffs? And threw a power-shock to those mean Irish rapists? Still, he's not sure of his first name and it looks like he's going to have to help out some Irish mobsters to get his identity back.
As for those twins still making their way up north, yawn. Not sure what to make of Maya and those black tears of hers. Anyone else freaked out by her "connection" with her brother?
Nathan, looking like a well-tailored Jesus, makes an appearance late in the show to check on Mom -- who was nearly killed by an unseen force in her interrogation room.
But, my heart goes out to the Benets - really, really bored in suburbia.

To me, season 2 of Heroes is off to a rather slow start. There's plenty going on, but for some reason, what's unfolded in the first two episodes just hasn't been terribly captivating. I'm surprised to find that the new show that follows Heroes, Journeyman, is at least for now the better program on Monday nights.

Remember what the "healer" told the crying girl twin? That she had enough darkness to kill the devil? I think that's foreshadowing that only she can kill the big bad boogie man. Clearly her brother must live as he serves as a sink for her power. If he dies, she might kill the whole world. Still, I'm bored with them.
As for Peter, after kicking the thugs' butts, he then pauses in grabbing the box with his ID in it? It's just very silly. He could have hit the guy and grabbed the box out of the fire before it burned. That plot device is just silly. He could get that box whenever he wants.
As to Peter being Superman, yes he is. We know that he absorbs powers of any other Hero around him. Since the bald black guy from last season could morph, Peter can. The power shocks come from the nuclear guy from last season, I'm assuming. In addition to healing, flying, etc....
The other stupid thing about Peter's predicament is that they were holding him hostage until he tells them what he did with the iPods. Ummm, the guy was naked, beaten and handcuffed in a cargo container, I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out that he was not the iPod thief. Did anyone else have a problem with that?
Oh, and what are the odds that Claire's one and only friend (well, stalker, really) is a "Hero" as well? Plot convenience playhouse, as they used to say in Mystery Science Theatre 3000.
They need to tighten up the plot lines.
I'm sure the show will get better as the season moves along (just like last season), but for now, it's pretty lukewarm.

Yeah it IS off to a slow start; A little less talk and a lot more action, please.
And ditto on the Peter thing. He can phase through objects, throw electricity, and heal himself. Some box being thrown in the fire is small potatoes. They're clearly doing it to keep him out of the action in the States for a while and probably give him a love interest. Also gives them an excuse for an emotional reunion with Nathan later in the season.
As for the Benets, is it just me or is Mr. Benet ever edging back towards being creepy? All this garbage with the Company and the Haitian- I smell a rat.

I say: I could not agree more! That totally urked me! For goodness sake, didn't they realize that if he had stolen the darn ipods he wouldn't have then gone back to handcuff himself to the wall. Dumb storyline.
Question: what happened in the very last minute? My tivo cut off right at 10 to switch over to another channel and I have no idea what happened when Claire ran outside to catch the peeping tom guy. Was he floating?

To dcbellwether:
In the very last scene, you never actually see the peeping tom guy (I believe his name is Wes) floating in the air but it is definitely implied. There is an aerial shot of Claire from the sky from what I assume is Wes's vantage point and her dog is barking at something above them.
Thanks for reading and your comment!

Just a point of clarification. The Haitian wasn't one of the characters who morphed. His power is the ability to erase minds. I can't remember the name of Linderman's girl Friday. She could shape shift. And I don't remember Peter being around her at all. He may have learned it from the first guy that defected from the company.

No, the power to get out of the ropes came from DL, the *other* bald black guy from last season, and we don't yet have confirmation if he's really really dead, I don't think, since last I remember he was bleeding out in Nikki's arms. We haven't seen Nikki and Micah and DL at all yet this season.
Linderman's chick who was taking Micah around to screw with the polling system could change her appearance but she wouldn't be able to just pass through a bound rope.
Mr Muggles better have a power - I'm so sick of that furry little thing I could scream.

Didn't Peter phase thru the ropes, not morph? Like Niki's husband,D.L., can do? Don't remember if they crossed paths during the finale of last season. But then again, I can't understand how Matt and Peter don't remember each other from the big fight scene or why there apparently where no regular human witness to what went on in the middle of the largest city in the U.S. I know it was night, but come on! Nobody saw them?
And am I the only who wouldn't want Matt investigating my lost dog, let alone at murder scenes? The character is dumber than a box of rocks and about as emotionally stable as a 15yr old girl at a Justin Timberlake concert! Now, if they would only lose the Wonder Twins and pick up the pace, maybe I'll stay for the rest of the season. As it stands, getting really bored with the whiney "poor me" attitudes of most of the so-called "heroes."

Oh, as as to the last shot with Claire and the barking dustmop? How dumb do the writers have to make her so that she is looking anywhere but where the dog is looking while barking his little head off? The dog is looking up, Claire. Up. Not left or right or down the street.

A few clarifications:
1) I believe Claire's new school friend was peeping in on her at the end of last week's episode as well, and he was clearly shown levitating then. (The only difference this week is that Claire caught him.)
2) Linderman's girl Friday last season could morph into other people, but I believe she was knocked off in the last (or penultimate) episode of the season.
3) Nikki's ex DL could phase through things, but I don't believe he and Peter crossed paths.

I do not think that Friday could "morph" into other people but alter people's perception of what they were seeing whether it be her or a room or whatever.

everyone that wondering why peter morphed.
remember last season the guy was teaching him how to control his power without having the people with him and during the instruction he actually did things that he has never seen before, basically peter has everyones power withing him, that's the reason why the dr thought he was the key to the cure. and i actually don't mind the suspense and the slow buildup to the season but i can do without the brother and sister they are boring...

Ok, we all agree Peter "phased" not "morphed"...we were just using the original author's term for it.
There are 3 possibilities for his phasing abilities as I see it:
1. When DL was in the building rescuing his son from Linderman, wasn't Peter in the building or in proximity of it? So Peter could have been close enough at that time.
2. Whoever put Peter in the cargo container also had DL. Or that person or his accomplices could have had a person w/ phase abilities with them (we have seen multiple flyers, mind readers, indestructibles by now, so it's apparent that the abilities are not unique (except perhaps for Peter and Sylar).
3. As JP said, Peter has everyone's powers already. He doesn't need to absorb them.

Apologies for the long post but...
Peter got his phasing power from DL when they were all on the street during last season's finale.
DL survived, as is told in the comic..., excuse me, graphic novels that accompany the series. You can view those on the NBC site or the Wikipedia site.
Matt did remember Nathan (not Peter) and said "Sorry about Peter" at the police station. What's Matt supposed to do? Go up to Nathan and say "Hey! Great to see you! Remember me? Last time we met you we flying into the sky with your nuclear meltdown brother!"?
But yeah, if it weren't for Matt's ESP, he'd be writing parking tickets.
If the Company has been following Mohinder, why don't they know that he's living in NY with Matt and Molly?
If I were the Irish thug, and the only link to the iPods was Peter, damn straight I would hold on to him. In my mind, he was double-crossed and abandoned at the scene by his own gang of thieves.
I don't think that Peter has the memory eraser power or the morphing (shape shifting) power. It's not clear how close he needs to be to absorb the powers of others.
I had the same thought as above, that the "healer" foreshadowed Maya's killing of the Boogey Man. So now we have to wait 28 more episodes for that - unless Maya meets Peter or the Boogey Man meets Sylar.

I for one wish for a speedy conclusion to the Hiro in Japan. It's being played way too cutesy-poo for my tastes. In fact, it really seems like one of those plots that TV writers will do so they can use their star of the show to the max. But these kind of plots usually smack of desperation and always turn out badly for the show.
The Peter plot is interesting as well as the murder of Hiro's father. I don't mind the what happened during the missing months for the season finale to this season premier, but still it's starting off rather slow. Plus where the hell is Nikki/Jessica and Michah? And did DL survive?

I just had a brian flash - maybe Peter's memory loss came from absorbing the Haitian's powers.

"f the Company has been following Mohinder, why don't they know that he's living in NY with Matt and Molly?"
They do know that Matt and Mohinder have Molly. The guy in the first episode said something to the effect of - we haven't said/done anything about the fact that you have Molly Walker in response to Mohinder getting upset about the group studying/killing other heroes.
Also, where's Sylar??? They keep showing him in the teasers but nothing in the episodes - I miss my Sylar!

I might have missed something, but didn't Nathan win the election?
