'Heroes': Sylar Lives
Sylar lives.
Despite the Samurai sword to the chest at the end of last season, it appears that the head-splicing, DNA-stealing psychopath is still with us. At first, it looked good for ol' Sy, waking up next to a red-haired hottie in what appeared to be a Corona beer commercial.
Not to be, though. She was definitely no supermodel and it looks like his ability to steal other heroes' powers has failed him -- at least for now.
Niki and Micah make their first second season appearance, leaving Las Vegas and heading to New Orleans (get ready for some post-Katrina story lines). While Niki seeks help from the Company, Micah's off to live with an unknown family member. And, as I'm sure all dedicated "Heroes" fans (and sci-fi enthusiasts in general know), that's "Star Trek's" Nichelle Nichols playing the relative. (First George Takei, now Nichols. Who's next? Walter "Chekov" Koenig?).
I'm still bored with the Wonder Twins who've made it to Mexico (America, here they come!). Maya did that weird eye thing again to free her brother from the prison and a stoner American spending time in the neighboring cell (I'm thinking drug bust) finally got them some wheels.
Peter has become an Irish gangster, despite the Italian heritage, and has fallen for an Irish lass.
And Back in California, Claire has connected with a fellow freak in West, who can fly. Anyone think immediately of the original "Superman" movie as West took Claire on a little jaunt in the sky, a la Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder? Hokey!
Is Claire really going to waste dear old Dad as it appears in Isaac's panting? Now, there's the intrigue this second season has been lacking.

I've got a great acronym for you, Channel This. From now on, you are "TWoF": Television Without Funny.
Yours for free. Seriously. No charge. Don't thank me. Thank YOU.

So, was it about 30 minutes of Heroes and 30 minutes of commercials?

And there's yet another Star Trek alum on Heroes, albeit the latter-day Star Trek Enterprise: Dominic Keating, aka Lieutenant Malcolm Reed, is among the Irish gangsters Peter is hanging with.

I thougt it was Wes - never heard of a West before. But-these days-what do I know?!

To West?:
I just checked with NBC and the character's name is indeed West.

Superhero flicks aren't the only thing 'Heroes' likes to reference. Did anybody spot the 'From Here to Eternity' moment when Claire and West lounged on the beach by that rocky outcrop?

The "stoner American" doesn't just have wheels - he has Claire's wheels. Apparently car theft is his ability.

Kill....the....Wonder Twins...now! They suck all the life out of a show that has been dragging already this season. And I guess D.L. is really dead, eh?

I laughed a little at Candace's reappearance as a redhead, since I knew Missy Peregrym had another series gig this season. But at the same time...SHOCK. Niki had clobbered her so badly that I half-expected her to be dead. And personally, I liked the homage to Superman, since this whole show is basically homage to all superhero presentations in the past.
