Rare Bird Night on 'Grey's'
McHomophobe, aka Dr. Burke, has been gone long enough now that it's safe to trot out the gay jokes again on "Grey's Anatomy."
So Chief invites McDreamy to share a "good old-fashioned gentleman's evening" with him and they invite McSteamy too. Only McDreamy and McSteamy don't know what a gentleman's evening is -- does it involve strippers? This makes them nervous for reasons that are never explained. They decide to seek the answer from McH's replacement, Dr. Hahn who, yes, is a woman, and who, in a touching tribute to McH, responds to their odd query by asking Mc's Steamy and Dreamy if they are a couple. "Noooo!" they reply nervously, then walk away together, muttering "why would she ask that?" to each other, as the camera follows them from the back, so as to get a nice long shot of their very nice tushes.

McDreamy and McSteamy: Not that there's anything wrong with that. (ABC/Ron Tom)
Two banged up bridezillas in a death match over a wedding dress are brought in -- the last to let go of the gown gets a free wedding -- McSteamy decides to punish intern George for cheating on Callie by making George stand in for one of the chicks who needs surgery, so George spends most of the episode holding a wedding dress.
Callie, meanwhile, has gotten over George, or nearly so, in record time -- even for "Grey's Anatomy" -- and can already giggle that her cheating louse of a husband has been ordered to hold a wedding dress.
Sadly, whatever Callie is drinking cannot be sold to our show's heroine, Superfluous Narration Meredith, who spends the entire episode, as she spends every episode this season to date, doing her Stating the Painfully Obvious dance: "The more available he gets the more I pull away..... I drowned, I was sinking, I died, I realized how stupid all my issues are, blah, blah, blah" in re her inability to be happy in a relationship with McDreamy.
Cristina delivers this week's "Moonstruck"-tastic Snap Out of It! Speech, telling Meredith: "being aware of your crap and actually overcoming your crap are two very different things."
Poor Cristina, meanwhile, gets robbed of a cardio surgery when Dr. Hahn picks Izzie to join her in operating on a birdwatcher with a blocked ticker. But, we come to realize, this is only so Izzie can take the man's sweet story about wanting to see a rare Ivory Billed Woodpecker before he dies and make it all about her, whining to her lover George that she's so tired from six hours of surgery she "can't have a perfect rare bird night with you." This sounds suspiciously like a quick re-write of the "I am Bambi" speech she delivered just a few episodes back in an episode involving a wounded deer. Bambi or Ivory Billed Woodpecker -- what's it gonna be, Izzie?
Poor Meredith Lite barely appears in the episode -- not a good sign for a new cast member -- and when she does, it's mostly to get caught by Meredith shagging Alex, who is in a race to the death with Callie to see which of them will be the first to get over his/her very deep love for George/Eva. My money's on Callie.

The show is becoming painful to watch...are the GA writers on strike too???

I can't believe I ever watched this show. Now when my wife watches it, I leave the room. No respectable man could ever see Izzie falling for George (and that has nothing to do with his real life identity). Watching this show kills brain cells.

I am sick of Izzie and George! It makes my skin crawl! They are so....bleah! Can I vomit now?

I am irritated by the Merideth/McDreamy scenario. Either get over the severe abandonment issues or leave him be, but make a decision! This has been going on for too long. I used to look forward to this show every Thursday, now I think I'm watching it out of habit and a (fading) hope that something good might happen. Even the ER events are dull.

I agree with D's comments. And I'm sorry, but Izzie's whining about how tired she was blah, blah, blah, actually had me reaching for the mute button and yelling, "Shut the bleep up" at the tv. I may have to go back to "Home Improvement" reruns on Nick at Nite.

I agree. I think the show is headed in a downward spiral, despite the high ratings which I don't really understand. The Izzy and George story line is absolutely boring and completely unconvincing. I agree with the above post that it is impossible to understand why Izzy would be interested in a geek like George and, again I agree, it has nothing to do with his real life background. Finally, last nights story lines were terrible. Bird man? Please! Izzy being tired? I think she is having second thoughts about having cast her romatic lot with George, if anything. I think I have given this show its last chance. Time to turn elsewhere.

What happened to the show last night? The whole story is so stupid and phathetic. I agree the whole story with Meridith and McDreamy is getting so old and stupid. Make a decision already. Izzie and George are so boring. I can't stand Izzie. Can't believe she won an Emmy for a support role. She can't even act. So stupid. Maybe Shonda needs to focus on one show instead of trying to create two shows. Private Practice is stupid too and so is GA. This is the last time I will watch this show. I have been a fan since the beginning but the definitely lost me this time.

Y'all are complaining about the whining? It has been there since day one. This is a show of whiners, period.
(But I still watch)

I agree with a lot of the comments.
The Izzy and George story line only worked when George and Callie still had some kind of relationship. Izzy seems pathetic. There's just no reason for them to get together...the drunk romp was enough. If the writers don't strike, they may have to introduce another love interest for Callie and get a super love triangle started.
The Merideth/McDreamy story line is getting boring.
She needs to make a decision already!
And if writers don't help Christina or Merideth's sister they'll both fall flat.
It's going to take a few jumps with the paddles before Grey's gets good again.

Why didn't they give Bird Man a valium before his awake heart surgery? (or try another type of anesthesia?)

I am still watching the third season on DVD and I am already getting bored with Meredith and Mc Dreamy romantic contradictions. Are you telling me that they are still undecided on the fourth season? So glad I am keeping my Thursday nights GA-free!

oh, thank goodness i'm not alone on this. I am so disappointed by the show this season, more so because it was such a good show the first time around. I've disliked Izzie since the beginning though and I just about had it last night with her going on and on about the bird thing. UGH.

Meredith obviously needs therapy! How many chances in one lifetime does one get the chance to have their "happily ever after" with a hot, caring, emotionally available brain surgeon. If she has acknowledged her issues and cannot deal with them on her own or with emotionally-stunted Christina's help, then it is time to turn to a professional. Honestly, with a mother like that, I am surprised that she has not been in therapy for years.

I miss the concentration on Christina's acerbic wit, I miss unpredicable interesting medical cases, and I miss Amanda Bailey's insights and tough competence. Enough of the shmaltz surroundng adolescent relationship issues. Seems like GA is turning into Melrose Place.

What is the deal with Meredith's 1/2 sister? Is she the same 1/2 sister who had a baby in an earlier season? If so, what has happened to the baby? I'm confused!
Posted by: kay | November 4, 2007 06:00 PM
Kay,
This is *definitely* a different half-sister, but Lexie I think is the full-sister of the one who had the baby (wanna say that half-sister's name was Molly or something like that).

"Seems like GA is turning into Melrose Place." Wish I could agree with Liat, but at least Melrose didnt even TRY to be believable...its fun was in the campiness and non-believability. This is, as I said before, a train wreck...

the fact that meredith had no clue she had another half sister is absolutely ridiculous... with all the stuff going on with the step-mom and other sister last episode (esp with meredith being the doctor for the mom), there's no WAY she didn't know about lexie's existence...
and i hate izze. i'm just sayin'

I think for the most part why Callie is getting over George "so quickly" (we'll see whwen she blows up next time) is because she knew she should not have married George, right after his father's death. Bailey said it takes two.
