'Grey's': So a Man, a Fan and a Nun Walk Into a Blog...
Let me set the scene: Today's blogging of "Grey's Anatomy" is brought to you by One Relative Newbie and One Huuuge Fan. And watching this sexed-up drama with us is ... One Nun. From New Jersey. (We know, we know -- it sounds like the opening for a joke.)
But quite seriously, folks: It's Thanksgiving night and I the Newbie, bloated and sluggish, am "stuck" watching "Grey's" with my wife, Katherine, the big-time fan. (Plus, I can't watch the Colts game because I don't get the NFL Network). I'm not much of a "Grey's" fan beyond the basics of McDreamy, McSteamy and the word "vajayjay," so -- with our regular "Grey's" blogger Lisa de Moraes taking a well-deserved day off -- you're also getting the more knowing insights of my wife. (As we huddle to watch the Seattle Grace antics with Katherine's aunt, the nun from New Jersey). So let's dig in...
It was a graphic episode tonight, no? The ambulance crash, the chest surgery and how about guest star Seth Green's exploding neck at the end?
Katherine is VERY excited to see Gale Harold in a guest-starring role (she loved him in "Queer as Folk") even if he is playing a white-supremacist ambulance driver. We both saw the hidden swastika a mile away, though.
Katherine's biggest beef with the series this season is that it's becoming way too "ER"-esque. Lots of car crashes and doctors running through hospital halls. "Not enough relationship stuff," she complains.
Katherine is really, really tired of the "break-up sex" between McD and Meredith -- I agree, and this is the first time I've actually sat through an episode this season. (It was also uncomfortable explaining to her Aunt the Nun what "break-up sex" is).
My wife also thinks Karev's dalliances with the two women cancel each other out. Move on.
Katherine gives tonight's episode a scoe of "5" out of 10. I'll give it a "3." It would have been a "1" but Seth Green's exploding neck WAS pretty cool.

To Karen:
"Big Shots" returns this Thursday (Nov. 29) at 10 p.m. ABC pulled it the last two weeks in hopes of giving "Women's Murder Club" and, last night, "October Road" a ratings boost in that desirable post-"Grey's Anatomy" time slot.

The wife wants MORE relationship stuff? Gag!

FYI, Seth Green and Patrick Dempsey played brothers in the 1987 movie "Can't Buy Me Love."

This is my first season with Grey's. Gotta tell you, the relationship stuff is a tad boring. I mean. Izzie and George...make-up sex ad nauseum...I actually enjoyed watching the emergency room dramas unfold last night...if only to get a break from O'Malley and Stevens.
I really like the new chief of cardiac, however.
While I'm here, does anyone know what happened to "bigshots?" I saw it as the male version of Desperate Housewives. Really good for comic relief, but not much else...
