'Jericho': Rays of Hope Shoot Through

Two unlikely rays of hope beamed through last night in the otherwise dark and bleak lil' town of Jericho. (And neither of those rays had anything to do with last week's ratings. Just more than 5 million tuned in to our fair little show, and NO amount of peanuts will save a series doing numbers like that).

But thank goodness for those rays of hope. Major Beck -- it turns out he's a big pussycat, with that missing wife and all -- is willing to play ball with heroic Hawkins, who was nearly outed thanks to the return of Jimmy the goofy cop (played by Bob Stephenson channeling the late Chris Farley). Hawkins is rolling the dice by emerging from the shadows and pretending that he, too, is on the search for Dead Sarah. So far, he's getting away with it while also planting seeds of doubt in Beck's mind about the Cheyenne government and mean ol' Valente.

The second ray? Scary Jennings & Rall blonde girl! She messed around with some paperwork behind the Orwellian company's back to try to save Jerochians from that deadly Hudson virus. Trish -- her real name -- is also becoming BFF with Bonnie and the two might be road-tripping together to Cheyenne (Hey, maybe Bonnie could wind up infiltrating Cheyenne in future episodes and become the big hero? Just a thought.).

With those nasty boys from Ravenwood running the show now, we finally got a little gunplay, after a week off, as Jake (who, as played by Skeet Ulrich, gets squintier by the week) and Getz engaged in a standoff at the warehouse. Getz looks even meaner than in Season One without that facial hair. And this will not be the last time Jake and Getz face off.

An unremarkable episode, but it does end with the requisite cliffhanger as Hawkins reaches a stranger via cellphone who says he's willing to help. Better move quick -- they've got four episodes to go . . .

I absolutely love Jericho. It would be a pity if it went off the air again. CBS is a left wing TV network and I am sure that the talking heads at the network are jockeying for position to be the first to cancel the show, like they really have any idea of what the general public likes. The newscasters on CBS are all democrats and it really, really shows. DON'T CANCEL JERICHO. YOU RUINED IT BY CANCELLING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE AND THEN BY NOT GEARING UP FAST ENOUGH TO GET IT OUT BEFORE THE PUBLIC. IF I RAN CBS THE FIRST THING I WOULD DO IS FIRE ALL OF THE 90 DAY WONDERS THAT WORK THERE. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THERE ARE A LOT OF 90 DAY WONDERS AT THE NETWORKS ANYMORE. TIS A PITY. NONE OF THEM HAVE A BRAIN IN THEIR HEAD. THEY MAY HAVE GOTTEN DEGREES FROM PRESTIGIOUS UNIVERSITIES, BUT THE LACK OF COMMON SENSE REALLY SHOWS. IF CBS CANCELS JERICHO, THERE WILL BE A BACKLASH.

First off, let me say I'm a Republican. Second, what does being a Democrat have to do with canceling Jericho? I think CBS did us a favor by even giving us a second chance. The general public obviously doesn't like Jericho, because if it did more than 5 million viewers would tune in. Season 1 of Jericho was great, but this season so far has faltered in my opinion. I'll still tune in each week hoping that it turns around, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

This season is a real disappointment, its just a thinly disguised lefty screed taking swipes at the Bush Administration and the Iraq war. The ASA President is Bush, the bald dude is Cheney, the ASA capital is in Wyoming because its Cheneys state, Jennings and Rall is Haliburton, Ravenwood is Blackwater USA and all of the above consists of evil Americans willing to blow up their own country. Turning Kansas USA into a lefty version of occupied Iraq was a big mistake and the lower ratings pretty much sealed the deal. To top it off, a town portrayed a conservative Red Staters will end up destroying the stand-ins for the Bush Administration - I wonder if Michael Moore was this seasons ghost writer? Did CBS do this on purpose to kill the show? A conspiracy theorist might think so.
