Future Days: Double shot of Roots, X.O.'s new album
In concert: If you want to see the Roots at 9:30 club, better act soon. Wednesday's show is sold out and as of this writing there are only a handful of tickets left for Tuesday's show. Wale, fresh off his halftime performance at last night's Redskins game (perhaps the only highlight? - here's some surprisingly decent YouTube footage) plays two shows at the 9:30 on Friday; the early show is sold out, tickets are still available for the late one. On Wednesday the Birchmere hosts an annual tradition, its Tribute to Hank Williams, a hootenany featuring local favorites Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer, Bill Kirchen and Robin & Linda Williams. For New Year's Eve entertainment, check the Going Out Gurus blog, which has everything from Ahmad Jamal to Thievery Corporation DJs.
In stores: No surprise, but there's hardly anything notable hitting shelves this week. So why don't you keep it local? Download that Underwater Peoples compilation we just talked about and be on the lookout for "One. One. Ten.," the new one from D.C. rapper X.O. The highly-anticipated follow-up to 2009's "Monumental" will be available on New Year's Day.
On TV: All the late night shows are in reruns, but there will be plenty of performances on the various New Year's Eve specials. ABC's lineup will include Daughtry, Jennifer Lopez, Black Eyed Peas, Robin Thicke and Justin Bieber. Fox answers with a pair of "American Idol" contestants -- winner Kris Allen and not-winner Allison Iraheta. NBC's Carson Daly scores the hippest performers, with Jay-Z, Rihanna and Green Day. On Tuesday, CBS will air its coverage of the Kennedy Center Honors, so you might get to see Eddie Vedder singing some Springsteen depending on what makes the cut.
