Last night's gig: UCB at Commonwealth

Some of the city’s best-dressed teenagers squeezed into the Stussy store on Florida Ave. NW, Thursday, to watch go-go troupe UCB crank out a handful of its best-loved tunes. During a breakdown of the band’s trademark anthem “Sexy Lady,” lead-singer Tre tried to get the young crowd to forget about the racks of technicolor t-shirts that surrounded them: "I know this is a clothing store by day, but you can't be scared to dance with someone of the opposite sex."
Before that, the band backed a three-song micro-set from Taiwo Hassan, singer of Chicago duo Christian Rich. (Check out the group’s "Wickerman" meets "Eyes Wide Shut" video for "Famous Girl.") After a choppy version of that silky-sleek pop ditty, Hassan urged the audience to, "tell your mother, tell your father, that you [mess] with Christian Rich!" The entire show was wrapped up by 7:30, which means the underage crowd probably made it home in time to do just that.
