Morning click: New albums from M.I.A. and LCD Soundsystem; U.S. tour for PiL
It's hard to decipher M.I.A.'s tweets, but a new album may be ready in June.
- We will deal with letters in today's news. First, the next great global pop music icon, M.I.A., may have a new album ready in June. On Monday she tweeted the following: "BANNED FROM LEAVING THE U.S, FAMILY BANNED FROM COMING TO U.S TO SEE ME , BABY, RECORDING LP, SIGNING THE DOPEST ACTS THATS HITTIN 2010. I THINK IM READY. JUNE 2010." So take that for what it's worth.
- In other new album/Twitter news, LCD Soundsystem just wrapped work on their third album. James Murphy shared the following very early Tuesday morning: "mixing last song right now to send to the amazing bob weston to master. meaning, record DONE. i hope people like it." We already love it. The fact that Bob Weston is involved is all the better.
- Johnny Lydon will bring the latest version of PiL (Public Image Ltd.) his influential post-punk, post-Sex Pistols band to the U.S. for a full tour after its initial performance at Coachella. It's hard to call it a full reunion as original members Keith Levene (guitar) and Jah Wobble (bass) will be sitting this one out. The tour is PiL's first U.S. trek in nearly two decades and includes a May 11 stop at 9:30 club.
