Really Quick Spin: B.o.B aka Bobby Ray, "May 25"

Drake’s “Thank Me Later,” may be the most anticipated rap album of 2010, but B.o.B’s “The Adventures of Bobby Ray,” is a close second. The Atlanta rapper/singer/producer has been busy making mixtapes, EPs, and guest appearances for years, and now he finally has a major label LP on the horizon.

The album is coming May 25, and to promote/celebrate the project, B.o.B has released a new mixtape entitled...."May 25." On intro track “The Biz” (built on Mobb Deep's "Shook Ones, Part II" track) the MC addresses public interest in his kinda-sorta name change (he’s using both B.o.B and Bobby Ray) and relationship with T.I.'s Grand Hustle imprint. He channels Pharrell and N.E.R.D on the mild rocker "Out of Time," and on “[EXPLETIVE] the Money,” he teams with Asher Roth to bemoan fame over an old Kanye West track that samples Joni Mitchell’s “River.”

"Well I-ma quit this crazy dream/As I hit the stage all the ladies scream/And when I pass by they all waving at me/But I been getting tired, y’all pray for me," B.o.B rhymes, expressing how the music industry can wear on an artist--even one who doesn't even have an album out yet.
