Taking sides: David Malitz argues with himself
It's your own fault for being in a position to care about what John Mayer says, one way or the other. (AP Photo/Evan Agostini)
Because that's what happens when you are snowed in. So here are some of this week's big issues, condensed to about two sentences.
Blog Rock Lacks a Political Edge
Um, good? Do we really need to hear people from upper-middle-class backgrounds taking it to the man? Not to say they shouldn't if they want to take it to the man, but can we really hold it against them if they don't?
John Mayer Is a Racist
He's probably not really a racist. But he's definitely an idiot and a very unfunny one at that. It would probably best to just ignore him and his music for a long while and if you have a sketch comedy show, stop inviting him on, okay? Also he's some oversexed misogynist writing fluffy love songs. It's like the bizarro effect of blog bands trying to be political activists.
Polling at Clubs
Good debate happening over at the City Paper blog about the practice of local clubs asking concertgoers which band they are there to see. Bottom line: it's a bummer, kind of insulting to all involved but does have a bottom line practicality to it. Numbers don't lie, but there's a reason baseball teams employ people who crunch statistics and scouts who actually watch the games, y'know?
Bonnaroo vs. Coachella
What? Not even worth debating. Coachella is the easy winner this year. Three of the top five billed bands at Bonnaroo are Dave Matthews Band, Kings of Leon and Tenacious D. Come on.

What's wrong with Tenacious D? Hey, they admit ther're a joke, as opposed to the Black Eyed Peas.

Tenacious D ... it's just shocking to see them that high up there on the bill. I know there are enough bands that you can always find something good but ... compared to Coachella's Thom Yorke/Sly Stone gets, kinda pales in comparison. Right?
