Local news: Eagles headline mega-country tour; Two nights of Phish; Virgin Mobile FreeFest returns
Don Henley and Glen Frey will bring their laidback country-rock to Nationals Park on July 15. (Tracy A. Woodward/TWP)
- First, in sure-to-be expensive concert news: A country super-triple-bill checks into Nationals Park on Tuesday, June 15 as the The Eagles headline a show that will also feature the Dixie Chicks (not broken up, apparently) and Keith Urban. All three acts are arena-worthy headliners on their own, so it makes sense that it takes a stadium to hold the trio. You've got a while to wait until tickets go on sale - March 29, 10 a.m. Expect the best seats to reach triple-digits.
- Phish's triumphant reunion tour makes a two-night stop at Merriweather Post Pavilion on June 26 and 27. The last time Phish played Merriweather it was the single fastest sellout in venue history. So even though there are two shows this time around, don't expect tickets to last much more than an hour. Again, you've got a while until they go on sale - April 2 in this case - so sell some extra patchouli and you should be good to go.
- And in free concert news, the Virgin Mobile FreeFest will once again return to Merriweather Post Pavilion. No word on when and who - just free. But that's a pretty good first bit of info to know. Can we throw out some completely unfounded predictions on headliners? Why not?! Stone Temple Pilots, Limp Bizkit, Wu-Tang Clan. Please let us hope we are wrong.

Thanks for the completely un-called for generalization of Phish fans. Why no mention of all the red neck hicks that will be at the Eagle/Dixie/Urban show?

It's Glenn Frey. Glenn with two n's. And I would say that being the number one band in America would include more than a "red neck hick" fan base.

STP and Wu? Nahh. They both played VFest 2008 and STP was just at Merriweather last year.
Soundgarden is dang near for sure though.
Interesting bill at Nat park. Hmm.
